It gives me immense pleasure to be heading such a wonderful and enthusiastic group of members who are determined to bring in a positive change in the society. An year back when we started out, a lot of people encouraged us but there were many others who were cynical about the work we were doing and thereby discouraged us by pulling us down, today I would like to thank all those people because all that made us more and more determined to bring in the change we wished to see. I'm sure this is just the beginning and we have a long way to go. This is a proud moment for the entire Team and I take this opportunity to congratulate each and every member of Team YFP. A big thumbs up to the entire Team, let's keep the engine going and as Swami Vivekananda has said, let's not stop until the goal is reached!

13th July, 2014

Thus we, “Team YFP” flagged off our first event. Our first step towards a better society!

OUR FIRST STEP TOWARDS A

CLEAN AND GREEN BENGALURU!

On a lazy Sunday morning, a group of youngsters, despite pessimistic attitude of the res idents o f 27th Main , 27th Cross , Banashankari 2nd Stage, took the incentive to reform that pessimistic attitude by cleaning up a children's play area which was filled with trash of all kinds and insects of all sizes which scared the children away by making it completely inaccessible, thereby making it a garbage dumpyard.

It was a surprising sight for all the residents as it was not the usual BBMP Pourakarmikas, but a group of youngsters who were cleaning the locality for them. The response from the residents was varied, as few people appreciated our efforts whereas there were others who were uncertain about the “Parivarthan” that we wished to bring in and thereby tried to demoralize our morale, but we knew that the “Parivarthan” was soon to happen!

19th July, 2014

Lastly, it gave us the satisfaction when people chanted our name in praise, urging us to continue in our quest towards a better society.!

ONE MORE WEEK, ONE MORE SPOT!

On a gloomy Sunday morning, Team YFP was spurred with the overwhelming response that it received from its kick-off event. The second spot was an extended office of the KEB, more often than not was victim to the posters and garbage in its vicinity. Though it was a hot day, the clean-up had begun, eventually the numbers grew. The team successfully cleared the posters, removed the garbage and painted the walls with bright colour to give it the look a government office very much needed.

We also received immense support from the neighbouring homes, however, a serious inhibition that raced through everyone's thought was maintainability. It was mentioned that if the spot was left freely vacant, then there could be lapse of effort. In order to overcome this problem, it was deliberated by the team to install seats and green pots to cover the void space and thereby giving the spot a fresh and vibrant appeal.

26th July, 2014

Finally, it was safe to say that we were one step ahead towards a better society.

THIRD SPOT IN A ROW,THE ENGINE WAS SET IN MOTION!

“Another weekend, Another spot-fix”. The team decided to keep the tempo up and going, organizing a third spot-fix in quick succession, believing that change can be never achieved if we are complacent. The spot undertaken had huge compounds surrounding the KEB head office, prone to cinema - theatrical posters and garbage. The turnout was less than expected but we knew we had members who could finish the job, break less effort was the need of the hour, which was ultimately completed to perfection.

It took us a good amount of time but we also encouraged the street vendors to ward off people from littering and putting up wall posters. We felt that it would be impossible to achieve change merely by doing clean-up drives, the thought to educate the people and spread awareness about the hygiene and environment struck us and hence we decided to talk to the street vendors to maintain their surroundings, not to litter, pollute and spread awareness to others who try disrupt the cleanliness in the surrounding area.

AN INDEPENDENCE DAY WELL SPENT!

Orphans, the world calls them but we prefer calling them as “God's Children”. 15th of August, the day India became independent. A very special day for all the Indians but it is just a holiday for a lot of people in today's generation. People are busy with their own lives, none of them have the time to spend few moments of that special day remembering the s a c r i f i c e s m a d e b y t h e w a r r i o r s o f Independence.

In order to make this day meaningful Team YFP organized a drawing and singing competition on the theme of patriotism and also had an interactive session to educate the children about the Indian struggle for Independence. We distributed sweets, stationeries like pencils and notebooks and also sponsored a meal for the children as a small contribution from us. The event was conducted at Tejaswi Seva Trust, a c h i l d c a r e h o m e ( O r p h a n a g e ) i n Chikkalasandra.

RIGHT AT THE HEART OF THE CITY!

6th September, 2014

Team YFP took up the initiative to give this spot a facelift on a Saturday afternoon as a small contribution towards making our city clean, it was no doubt a herculean task considering the fact that the posters on this wall had been there for years and it was obvious that we had to struggle quite a lot to remove the unwilling posters off the wall. But at the end of the day, we had been successful in giving the phase 1 of our project a much needed transformation. Phase 2 was reserved for the coming week.

What impression are we creating of our beautiful city in the eyes of the tourists and other visitors? Mysore Bank Circle, Gandhinagar the first place which people visiting Bengaluru notice as soon as they enter the heart of the city. We, Bangloreans will have surely passed by this spot at least once and we are very sure that a good number of us would have blamed the BBMP for not maintaining the place well. But how many would be ready to actually take up the initiative of cleaning this place up instead of comfortably passing comments and blaming the authorities for the lack of maintenance?

WHEN WE DO IT, WE DO IT COMPLETELY!

A project once taken up has to be completed, irrespective of the number of days it takes. The Mysore Bank Circle was waiting for us to come back and complete the remaining stretch of the wall, what we called as Phase 2 of the project. On a Sunday morning, a team of 23 members who were determined to transform the spot at any cost started off with their task.

As you can see in the picture above, there is a person urinating on the wall, like that there had been several people who had persistently urinated on these walls which made it stink very badly, even though we had covered our noses it didn't really help us avoid the stench. Even in this condition we had no option to give up, we pulled out the posters, brushed the wall and painted it freshly. The wall now looked tidy and attractive, one more spot successfully fixed! There was no way we could stop or take a break, the engine was set in motion, another event was already planned for the next weekend.

2nd Oct, 2014

We therefore launched the Swacch Bharath Abhiyaanin South Bengaluru, definitely on a large scale!.

YFP JOINS SWACCH BHARATH ABHIYAN,A NATIONWIDE REVOLUTION

Hon'ble Prime Minister Sri.Narendra Modi, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi had called upon his fellow countrymen to join him in his endeavor of making Bharath, a Swacch Bharath! There was no way we could not participate in the nationwide revolution as we were 3 months ahead of our Prime Minister in this regard. We chose a compound wall on the Thyagarajnagar Main Road which had fallen prey to garbage dumping, posters and urination, Team YFP was all set to transform this place and thereby contribute towards Swacch Bharath. Posters were pulled off, garbage was cleared, seats were installed and the entire wall was painted, the place now wore a new look.

Sri.Prajwal Devraj, Kannada Actor, also participated in this event making it a grand success. We also had Sri.Ganesh, Kannada Actor and Sri.R.Ashok, Former Deputy CM of Karnataka who v is i ted the spot and congratulated the entire team. Team Uttishta Bharatha also participated in this event. One more step towards a Swacch Bharath!

We built a strong foundation to the stone slab, painted it and installed plants below it. The spot now looked majestic and beautiful!

PARIVARTHAN DRIVE CONTINUES..

A shady corner, a stone slab in the middle of the road installed in order to divide the road but the condition of which was so pathetic that it could fall anytime due to its weak foundation. That's how the road adjacent to the Kadirenahalli Park l o o k e d b e f o r e Te a m Y F P g a v e i t a “Parivarthan”. Well, on a cloudy Sunday morning a team of 18 members reached the spot at 8am with just one thing in mind, to be the change everyone wished to see.

We started off by removing the posters and clearing the heap of garbage, few 10 year olds who were passing by joined hands with us to contribute their bit for the neighbourhood they lived in. In 3 hours we completed the task of cleaning and painting the wall. Just when we thought of packing up our eyes fell on the ugly stone slab in the middle of the road which could fall any moment, the Team once again spurred into action this time having our focus on the stone slab

PARIVARTHAN DRIVE REACHES MONOTYPE BUS STOP!

It was really painful to see a bus shelter turn into an advertising board. In the prime area of Banashankari 2nd stage, the Monotype bus stand had lost its sight, covered with dust and pollution and turned into a small dump yard for garbage. We decided to give a makeover, clearing the webs and dust, removing the ads and posters and re-painted the bus stop with another YFP finishing touch. It had been restored and was looking as good as new.

There was a handsome turnout of our members owing to which we even managed to rid the walls behind the bus stop of filth with our three steps clean program. We had been constantly generating support and this time it was no less as we received unconditional support from the public in the form of refreshments to energize the team after the endless toil in the sun. Eventually the team was able to finish the job in real quick time.

Conclusively, it was another big step in bringing the change that YFP wishes for a better society.

1st Nov, 2014

We had 132 members, young and the old proactively participating to bring positive change towards a better society.

THE RAJYOSTSAVA CHAPTER!

The team was in the groove after many successful spot-fixes so we were ready to take on the big fish, as a tribute to our state on the day of its formation, Kannada Rajyotsava. It takes a lot of preparation to organize a clean-up drive in the Banashankari 2nd stage BDA complex, a famous shopping centre and eatery for the residents of this area. As we all know, in places like this garbage and trash is bound to be inevitable and hence, a parivarthan drive is inevitable. Our members and other volunteers worked relentlessly as early from 8am till almost midnight 2am, an 18 hour spot fix! There was a lot of garbage, briskly cleared and stacked outside the gates, which was later removed by tractors at our own cost.

A lot of preparation and resources it took, we had to completely exhaust all our resources to get the job done and this couldn't have been achieved without the help of our mentor Sri.Sai Balaji Yadav, who contributed selflessly to the cause without whom the event would've not been a huge success and credits must also be afforded to the local residents of Banashankari 2nd stage who volunteered to be part of the change. It took a huge toll on all the people during the drive but thanks to the heroics of an 87 year old senior citizen and a 9 year old kid, actively working despite of their age, renewed our vigour and helped us to regain our morale.

FINISHING TOUCHES TO THERAJYOTSAVA CHAPTER

18 hour spot-fix was not enough to cover the Banashankari BDA Complex completely, we very well knew that this was going to be a two day event for us. Phase 1 was all about cleaning and interior painting whereas phase 2 included removing posters from the grills and repainting it and also painting the exterior walls of the premises. We had to complete the spot fix as quickly as we could because we had our plans of celebrating the Children's Day in advance by visiting an orphanage in Sarjapur Road.

The enthusiasm and activeness of our members played an important role in finishing the final touches real quickly. The Banashankari BDA Complex was finally “Parivarthaned” as we call it.

We later distributed sweets and notebooks to these magnificent tiny tots and got ourselves a group picture.

CHILDREN’S DAY WITH GOD’S CHILDREN

Children of God who are often referred to as Orphans were in for a surprise as Team YFP celebrated Children's Day for these special kids in advance on 9th of November 2014, at Thayi Mane, an orphanage at Sarjapur Road. Once we reached the place, we were greeted with the smiles on the faces of these wonderful children with whom we started off our Children's Day special with a game of cricket. After a fun-filled game, came the introductory part where we were introduced to the children and vice-versa. The children showcased their art and craft talent by creating a series of wonderful and thought-provoking artwork.

The children were later asked about their ambitions and it was sure that they would come out in flying colors, and hence we continued our gaming session and the girls enjoyed a dancing session too.

CHILDREN’S PARK PARIVARTHENEDAS CHILDREN’S DAY GIFT TO THE KIDS!

"Children are great imitators. So give them something great to imitate.“

This was the quote which made Team YFP decide to carry out something that would have a great impact on the minds of the tiny tots. So we cleaned up a play area for children in D.V.G Park in Banashankari 2nd Stage. The park was infested with insects and reptiles of various kinds and sizes and the play equipments in the park were not in a condition to be used.

We decided to clean up the play area and gift it to the children as “CHILDREN'S DAY GIFT”. We were successful in clearing up the mess and giving a brand new touch to the equipments in the park by freshly painting them all.

The children who were waiting for the play area to be cleaned were rejoicing in excitement. We were successful in bringing a smile on the faces of tiny kids on account of Children's Day, a true gift for them.

WHEN A GROUP OF SENIOR CITIZENSREQUESTED THE TEAM FOR A SPOT FIX!

After a small event for the wonderful kids in the play area of the DVG Park in Banashankari 2nd Stage on the Children's Day, a group of elderly people approached Team YFP to clean up the entire DVG Park for them as the park was infested with rodents and insects of various kinds.

We considered the request and took up the cleaning process to make the park rodent free and help the elderly people take their morning walks peacefully. We brushed up the whole park, our members also started doing the gardening work by trimming the plants and then painted it making it look like a brand new park. PES IUP College also participated in this spot fix which helped in gathering around 130 members on a Sunday morning which most people prefer to sleep and kill time. The entrance to the park had stone slabs which were dangerous for elderly people to step on due to its slippery surface and displaced positions, which was also repaired by us at our own cost. Thanks to Sri.Sai Balaji Yadav for the support.

THIRD WEEK AT D.V.G PARK IN BANASHANKARI 2nd STAGE

It looked like the DVG Park didn't want to leave us until we had completely addressed all the issues it had been facing so far. So, there we were for the third time, this time to tackle the garbage issue right outside the park. It was a posh locality, all of us had single doubt in our minds, how can educated people behave so carelessly? Do they have to be taught as to how to maintain their neighbourhood? It once again proved the concept of uneducated literates for us.

Right outside the park was an open drainage filled with trash and construction waste which made it look no less than a garbage dumpyard. Our task started from removing the trash from the drainage and covering the same with stone slabs to installing a seat and building a pedestal with waste tiles that were available in the vicinity. This has undoubtedly been one of the most successful spot-fixes of Team YFP,

The wall now looks attractive and the students too have realized the importance of keeping clean.

CREATING AN IMPACT ON THE FUTURE CITIZENS OF OUR NATION

A 280ft long wall completely filled with obscene posters right opposite to a school, what impact would it have on the innocent kinds? Yes, that's how the wall opposite to Deccan International Public School and adjacent to Brigade Komarla Apartments on the Uttarahalli Main Road looked like.

Team YFP took up the daring step against the pasting of posters and it was well supported by the public and the students of Kumarans PU College, Padmanabhanagar. The team had around 90 members who had volunteered for the event and the 280ft wall was transformed in less than 6 hours! Lot of people who passed by the place stopped and thanked the Team, one common thing which many of them said was, “This spot was dull and ugly when we left in the morning but it's totally changed by the time we're on our way back, nice PARIVARTHAN!”.

GIFT OF LOVE AND HOPE!

A child care home in Basaveshwaranagar with all children below 10 years of age, the love and bonding which they shared between them was truly a lesson for us to learn. It was the birthday of one of our members which we decided to celebrate by visiting the orphanage and spending the day with them, we distributed sweets and also sponsored a meal. We got an opportunity to serve lunch to those kids with our own hands, so the happiness and satisfaction which we felt was beyond words.

Shree Sharada Seva Trust, Basaveshwaranagar, was the place which taught us new lessons of life. The kids were also made to do crafts with ice cream sticks which they thoroughly enjoyed, we also showed them inspirational videos on the projector, it was definitely a new experience for the kids too. Every time we interact with kids we get to learn a lot of simple things which we tend to forget due to the complexities in life.

THE TEMPLE SPOT-FIX!

Laxmikantha Temple Park, a park right at the heart of Padmanabhanagar is an example for neglected parks with poor maintenance. It's a park used mostly by senior citizens to take their daily walk and meet their peers every day, but the same was in a very bad condition. Right outside the park was a spot which had become a urinating and garbage dumping yard for the public at large.

The place badly needed a spot-fix, a small passage behind the transformer at the spot was a favorite place for few people to relieve their urge to urinate in public. The painting session got over soon but the transforming of the garbage & urinating place was an uphill task. It turned out to be a two day event and Team YFP worked for more than 20 hours to give the spot a majestic and fresh look after which the dumping of garbage and the public urination has come to an end. In order to tackle the public urination we fenced the entire passage behind the transformer making it inaccessible to the public. The residents and the visitors to the park thanked us profusely and were amazed to witness the change.

11th Jan, 2015

Sri.Katte Sathya, Ex Mayor, Bengaluru & Sri.P.N.Sadashiva, Corporator visited the spot and appreciated the entire team.

Flyovers are meant to reduce traffic congestion and help in the free movement of traffic. But in our city it is used by few people to paste ugly posters on them thereby spoiling the appearance of the same! The flyover in North Road, Basavanagudi was facing such a problem! Truly one of the biggest projects that Team YFP had so far undertaken. January 12th which is Swami Vivekananda 's b ir th anniversary, commemorated as National Youth Day, was celebrated by Team YFP by cleaning up this flyover which leads to Swamiji's statue right outside Ramakrishna Ashrama.

More than 135 members participated in this spot-fix without which it would have been very difficult to undertake such a huge project. The posters on the flyover were of seven layers which made it extremely difficult for the members to remove it. We even had to shell out a huge amount on the paint as it exceeded our expectations. Karvy Stock Broking Co. participated in this spot-fix. We also cleared the garbage from a conservancy right next to the famous Butter Sponge bakery who used the place as a garbage dumping yard.

THE RISKY GAMBLE!

A TRUE REPUBLIC DAY FOR THE WHOLE TEAM

“Of the people, by the people and for the people”, the true spirit of a republic, but sadly Republic Day has become just another holiday for most people, but for Team YFP it was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our nationalism by cleaning up a dull and shady park at a prime junction in Basavanagudi named after Prof.B.S.Madhava Rao, renowned pre Independence Mathematician. The park was filled with trash of all kinds and was unknown to many people despite its prime location.

Team YFP cleaned up the park and gave it an aesthetic look and also made it available for people to take their morning walks with joy. The task included clearing the garbage, painting the pavement of the entire premises and the exterior walls in order to give it a majestic appearance. A group of around 54 members toiled in the scorching heat and cleaned up the mess the park had in it.

Every member who was a part of this spot fix felt true nationalism and satisfaction because we spent a holiday doing something productive,

unlike most others.

A CANDLE MARCH IN MEMORY OF THEBRAVE MARTYRS ON MARTYRS DAY

“The tyrant dies and his rule ends, the martyr dies and his rule begins” – Mahatma Gandhi.

30th January is observed as Martyr's Day across India to mark the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, also as a day to remember all those brave souls who laid down their precious lives for a cause even more precious, the nation.

Team YFP organized a Candle March in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi and all the other martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Mother India. We started off the march by garlanding the statue of the youth icon, Swami Vivekananda, opposite to Ramakrishna Ashrama and after walking for almost a kilometer, ended the half an hour march by paying our respects to the martyrs by observing a two minutes silence in front of the Gandhi statue located at Gandhi Bazaar.

Special thanks to Sri.Katte Sathya (Ex Mayor of Bengaluru), Sri P.N.Sadashiva (Corporator), Smt.Roopa Iyer (Actress/Director) and

Sri.Chakravarthy Rangaswamy (86 year old biker) for supporting and participating in the initiative of Team YFP.

TATA SILK FARM BUS STOP GETS A MUCH NEEDED FACELIFT

Bus stops built for bus commuters to wait until the bus that reaches their destination arrives are sadly used as a podium to stick posters all over the place and make it an abode of ugliness and dirt. One such bus stop in Namma Bengaluru at the Tata Silk Farm, K.R.Road was targeted by a group of 35 members from Team YFP who gave it a total facelift, a much needed makeover right from removing the ugly posters, brushing the dust, clearing the garbage and installing a seat at that spot to painting the entire bus stop. In spite of examinations we were happy to have an overwhelming turnout of enthusiastic members, much more than our expectations. The civic sense within us was brought to life!

It took just 4 hours to fix this spot and give it an attractive look. After all the efforts, the bus stop looks nothing less than a brand new one. It was definitely a small spot fix with a huge impact.

JOINING HANDS FOR A NOBLE CAUSE:WALK-A-THAN FOR AWARENESS ON

“EYE DONATION”

There's a need to break the social stigma that's attached to eye donation in our country, if our eyes can give light to two lives after our death nothing else can be nobler. When Team YFP was informed about a walkathon being organized for such a good cause we did not think over but immediately agreed to co organize the event. The event had more than 200 people participating to spread awareness about eye donation among the common masses. Dr.Dayananda Pai, Sri.R.Ashok and many other high profile guests were part of this social cause. Team YFP was appreciated by Dr.Dayananda Pai and Sri.R.Ashok for the work that we have been doing for quite some time now.

We also conducted a demo clean up drive by picking up the plastic waste that were disposed off at the premises by the participants and responsibly putting it in the dust bins. The membership drive that we conducted also had an overwhelming response.

BUFFET FOR COWS, BREEDING GROUND FOR MOSQUITOES CLEARED

SENIOR CITIZENS RELIEVEDA heap of garbage and 4 cows happily feasting on it, yes this is how the entrance of the Uttarahalli Lake looked. The onlookers and the people passing by even refused to look at the spot due to the filthy stench. Right behind this ugly spot is an old age home which was greatly affected by the foul smell and also because of the fact that the spot had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The senior citizens at the old age home were extremely troubled and it was for them that Team YFP took up this spot on our priority list! We took up the initiative to clean up the mess and the people who were used to the garbage stink, were in for a shock when the stinky smell had stopped. The elderly people at the old age home were very happy with the transformation as they did not have to bear with the trouble anymore!

Sri.Ramesh Raju, Corporator of Uttarahalli ward and the BBMP Pourakarmikas played a vital role in clearing of the garbage. Our task included removing posters, brushing the wall, painting the wall and the pedestal and installation of seats at the spot. The elderly people can now spend their twilight years peacefully.

GIFT OF LOVE AND CARE!

After cleaning up the ugly spot at the entrance of the Uttarahalli Lake, Team YFP visited 'Ashraya Vrudhashrama', an old age home right beside the Uttarahalli Lake which was worst affected by the garbage dumping menace at that spot. We spent some time with the elderly people who were away from their families and made them share their memories with us. We made them play indoor games, which they enjoyed a lot as it refreshed their minds.

We spent some time interacting with them and also gave them seasonal fruits and other bakery eatables as little contribution from our part. They wholeheartedly thanked and blessed us for the work that we have been doing and also gave us a few inputs and suggestions with regard to new methods of spreading awareness among the people. It was a great experience for the whole team!

FOOTPATH RECLAIMED IN THE POSH LOCALITY OF JAYANAGAR 4TH BLOCK

A garbage dumpyard for ages, a spot which even the residents had given up hopes despite several complaints made to the BBMP, this prime location in a posh locality unfortunately had succumbed to the lack of civic sense of the neighbourhood. Footpaths, meant for pedestrians to walk but when the same footpath is used for dumping garbage and other construction debris, the whole point of having a footpath is lost, forcing the pedestrians to take the road disrupting the free vehicular movement.

Team YFP spurred into action to clear the garbage and other construction debris at the spot. We were also successful in beautifying the place within a span of 5 hours with the help of around 40 members who spent their quality time in the process, tolerating the scorching heat after which the footpath is now again accessible to the public. This transformation also provides people with seats to rest for a while and also a new approach to stop the further disposal of garbage at the spot cleaned.

Sri.B.N.Vijayakumar, MLA, Jayanagar Constituency and Sri. C.K.Ramamurthy, Corporator visited the spot and appreciated the whole team for the initiative and the efforts taken.

They were happy that the citizens, specially the youth were finally acting instead of only complaining.

WHEN A GROUP OF ENTHUSIASTIC RESIDENTS APPROACH THE TEAM FOR HELP, WE LEND A HAND

When the entire team was busy with the spot fix at Jayanagar 4th Block suddenly we heard loud noises and after a few seconds saw a couple of men and women holding brooms in their hands with a garbage cart along with them. It definitely was a very unusual sight to see people in such fashion on a Sunday morning when everybody is busy otherwise, sleeping. When we interacted with them we learnt that they were residents of the parallel road who took the initiative to clean their road all by themselves on every Sunday morning. They would simply borrow the garbage cart from the BBMP worker and return it to her once they were done cleaning up their road. That was an inspiring story for us.

This group of residents came to us for help, there was an empty site in their street the compound wall of which was used for dumping garbage and public urination which caused lot of inconvenience in the neighbourhood. They wanted us to clean up that spot for them, it only took 2 hours for 8 memebers to fix this spot and the result was overtly seen!

The team received a lot of appreciation for the work, after all its always good to help those who help themselves.

Heard of a bus stop being shifted due to garbage dumping and public urination?

Yes, a bus stop in Uttarahalli Main Road which was prone to public urination and garbage dumping got shifted as bus commuters refused to wait there for their buses. The amount of garbage at the place invited a herd of cows to feast upon it, to add on to the horror the place had become a victim of persistent public urination. Team YFP took up the initiative and successfully reclaimed an erstwhile bus stop.

We started off at 7:30am and finished the work within a span of 6 hours. The public and the residents were grateful and surprised to witness the sudden and unexpected clean-up of the bus stop which now has beautified wall paintings on it and freshly installed seats making the place look like it has always been spick and span. By the time we completed the spot fix buses again stopped at the spot and people already had started using the old, yet new bus stop.

Special thanks to Sri.Ramesh Raju, the Corporator who supported us in this endeavor and also to the BBMP pourakarmikas for helping us in clearing the trash.

A SMALL STEP TOWARDS CHANGING

THE MENTALITY OF THE PEOPLE

Have you ever noticed people deliberately doing something despite being warned against it? Similarly, a place in Jayanagar 5th Block, opposite the G.N.R Kalyana Mantapa and Sai Baba Temple, had a board which read ”Garbage Free Area” and a fine of Rs.500 to be levied on anyone who dumped garbage there. But we witnessed a huge pile of garbage right under the board, which once again proved the human tendency.

Team YFP on a gloomy Sunday morning took up the initiative to clean up the mess and we were supported by around 56 members, we were successful in cleaning up the spot within a time gap of 6 hours. The task included removing posters that made the wall look ugly, clearing construction waste and garbage, building pedestal, installation of seats and of course, painting!

Thanks to Sri.B.N.Vijayakumar and Sri. C.K.Ramamurthy for their complete support which played a very vital role in transforming the

CHINNARA KALA UTSAVA!

Summer vacation, that time of a year when kids are enjoying, yet bored. Team YFP thought of organizing something for the kids and also try understanding what these tiny citizens think about clean India, what can be better than a drawing competition?

Chinnara Kala Utsava, a drawing competition for the kids below the age of 14 years was organized by us at the Nandanavana Park in Jayanagar 4th T Block, in association with Hande & Sons and Prithvi Consttructions, on the theme of My Clean India. We were surprised to see the maturity in the drawings of these kids, at such young age their thoughts were so refined!

Smt.Sneha Sachin & Sri.Sachin Dambal were the judges at the drawing competition. The special guest for the evening was a 5 month old kid, Samarth who had come to the event along with his brother and parents. This event surely gave us the inspiration to conduct more and more such events for the kids.

DAIRY CIRCLE UNDERPASS GETS‘PARIVARTHANED’

Dairy Circle Underpass has been one of the most prominent places having great vehicular movement. How many times have you seen the Dairy Circle underpass and frowned at the very sight of it? Team YFP on a dull and lazy Saturday morning took up the uphill task of beautifying the Dairy Circle Underpass and we successfully achieved it. The Parivarthan was a laborious job which included removing the piles of posters, brushing up the wall and of course painting it to give it a new look, the spot took a toll on all our members considering the huge dimension of it.

The onlookers had a special treat to their eyes on witnessing the beautified underpass. The Commissioner of BBMP, Sri.Kumar Naik who was passing by, stopped his convoy and got down to congratulate and appreciate the whole team and also said that we were making their work easier, a truly memorable moment for all of us. RJ Smitha Dixit from Radio Mirchi joined us and contributed her bit by painting a portion of the underpass. By the time we finished the spot fix it started raining very heavily which gave us no other option but to continue and finish the little bit work that was left, on the next day. A successful two day spot fix it was.

The compound wall of any vacant site in Bengaluru is used by people to paste ugly posters and dump garbage all over it and these are the same people who complain about the poor maintenance by the authorities. Team YFP rescued such a spot on a Sunday morning from 8am onwards, right opposite to Sagar Hospital in Tilak Nagar, near Spar Supermarket.

As planned, everything started off brightly and the sun too came down on us much more ferociously. The posters were torn off and the wall was brushed, the uneven footpath was made fit to walk and the heaps of mud and garbage were cleared off in 4 hours. Few stone slabs of the footpath were missing making it too dangerous to walk on as anybody could slip and fall inside the drain, the Team made sure that the issue was addressed by placing new stone slabs at the place.

The painting session witnessed amazing wall art and the wall now has a brand new look and provides a treat to the onlookers. The seat

A SMALL STEP TOWARDS CHANGING

THE MENTALITY OF THE PEOPLE

In the past, it used to be “Where there is will, there is way” but what suits best for today's scenario is “Where there is food, there is garbage”. Yes, that's how we can perfectly describe the famous Food Street at V.V.Puram. As soon as we entered the Food Street we were greeted by a huge dump of garbage outside a small park and a couple of cows and stray dogs feasting on it, the stench from the garbage was unbearable, the worst we had witnessed so far.

The BBMP Pourakarmikas helped us in clearing up the garbage, we brushed the walls and removed the posters from the grills and painted it completely to give it a new appearance. Even after the garbage had been cleared from the spot the stench was still making it very difficult for us to even breathe. Due to persistent dumping of trash the ground had turned black and something had to be done to make it look neat. That's when we sprinkled 10 bags of sand at the spot to cover up the ugliness. The spot finally looked clean and the transformation was seen evidently.

We were still doubtful about the maintenance of the place once we were done with our part, but we had a plan already set to take the spot-fix to another level, the social experiment was already planned.

FOOD STREET BECOMES TARGET FOR A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT

Do we really need somebody to actually remind us to use the dust bins? Has our civic sense become so weak that every time we eat something someone has to remind us not to litter the place by throwing the plates all over the place? When we were busy spot-fixing in the morning, lot of residents shared their concern that most of the trash comes from the Food Street and that they have not been able to take any action against them due to several complexities, that's when Team YFP decided to strike right at the epicenter of the problem!

A team of 18 members were found across the Food Street on the same evening, holding placards which read “If you want to throw garbage, throw it on me” and it actually worked. Never had we seen the Food Street so clean, every person was luckily putting the used plates in the dust bins and the street was absolutely trash free. The shopkeepers realized the difference that we made and they conveyed to us that they would henceforth make sure that their customers used the bins, A truly successful social experiment, we are hoping for the day when people realize their basic responsibilities without others reminding them about the same.

YOUTH AGAINST TOBACCO RALLY ONWORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

“The true face of smoking is disease, death and horror - not the glamour and sophistication the pushers in the tobacco industry try to portray."

Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, one of the leading cancer institution in the country and Youth For Parivarthan together organized a rally to portray the ill effects of tobacco consumption on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. The rally or awareness walk started from the Kidwai campus in M.H.Road till Lalbagh.

It was not only Team YFP or Kidwai that participated in the rally, whereas several schools and nursing colleges joined the rally, making it a huge success. Our first event in the health sector, many more to come.

It was really a pleasant surprise for us when Akashvani recognized our work and called us over for an interview in their program ‘Yuva Vani’. Team YFP’s first radio interview it was, we were excited about it but at the same time we also felt nervous about facing the microphone.

Radio Mirchi, Sakkath Hot Maga!

Yes, we experienced the heat when we received a call from Radio Mirchi office calling us for an interview which was taken by renowned actress turned RJ, Smt.Malavika Avinash for her program Lifeu Ishtene. The questions that were posed to us at the program gave us a wonderful opportunity to introspect, a big leap ahead!

It was again a surprise to receive a call from the Radio Mirchi office and more surprising was the fact that RJ Smitha was on air. We once again got a wonderful opportunity to speak about the organization, our work so far and our future projects!

RJ Sowjanya from the Radio City called us to speak to us about the work that we were doing for the environment as part of their emvironment week special. The name of the program was titled ‘Nature Idrene Future’.

HONOURS AND FELICITATIONS

It was an honor when a prestigious club such as Rotary invited Team YFP to attend their meeting and give them a presentation about what we have done so far and what are planning to do in the near future. At the end of the meeting, the team was felicitated by the Rotary Club South West Bengaluru as a token of appreciation.

Team YFP was awarded the ‘Ugadi Puraskar 2015’ by Vasavi Club Internatiuonal among other stalwarts from distinguished areas of work. It was an overwhelming experience for the entire team when all the people gathered at the ceremony gave us a standing ovation in appreciation for the work so far undertaken by the team. A truly memorable moment!

One question that is most commonly encountered by Team YFP is, “What keeps you going? What motivates you?”. Well, the answer lies here. When we visited the DVG Park the day after we had cleaned it we found a small message on a paper stuck to one of the benches in the park. It read “Thank you for the Parivarthan”. Small things like this make us happy and keeps our spirits high!

THOUGHTS INKED

MY EXPERIENCE AT YFP!

*Swathi. P.R.

As I stood there looking at the members of Youth for Parivarthan, I wondered how they managed it all. Right from organising the events to the smallest of things, everything was done by just a group of individuals who are of my age. Being new to the group, many thoughts crossed my mind. But once I became a part of the team, I knew that the journey for society's change was on. The event was well planned and organised, the efforts of every member was clearly shown. The team was moving on with confidence and bringing to reality long dreamt wishes. Ah! What an inspiration! And its one full year since all this has started.

New experience, new friends, new fun and new learning-this was my first event. There were YFP banners and the YFP T-shirts everywhere I looked, which showed their interest and dedication. The enthusiastic initiative taken by them is remarkable. I loved the teamwork, the unity and the amazing ideas that this group had. Troubles and hardships have all faced with courage, and nobody has stepped back even when they've felt disheartened. One step at a time, they have been succeeding by believing in themselves, constantly working and never complaining. Just one event and I already have a feeling of belongingness.

I realised that betterment comes from correcting flaws and success comes from experience. The small efforts that we put in are going to make huge differences. The team has displayed its true potential by working towards social causes, which we all can pride on. It's not just like an NGO, it's more like a group of friends sharing the same dream and working towards it. They are a big admiration for the present generation. I'm making memories that I can look back on.

I can proudly say that I am a member of YFP. If u ever thought, “A team of youngsters, what can they do!?” – Well, now u know where we are longing to go…

Page 57: Magazine - Download!

One fine day each one of us will surely wish to relive every lost moment, to make those lost moments worth it, fill and spread charm and positivism in your every step. One thing which leaves most of us proud today is the hike in the quantity of youth with fine quality turning to make a huge difference from their small yet worthy contribution so selflessly.

Youth for Parivarthan is not just an organization, it is a unit, it is a family. We do not believe in publicity, we believe in the involvement of public. All the hard times we faced just vanish in our memory seeing a child smile, seeing how our transformed spot becomes the cynosure with the hard work, how people change their lives for the good and for all the other inanimate things to which we have given life. All the trouble we took is forgotten after seeing another youth getting motivated by it. Maybe we can’t tackle all the problems readily but we shall surely carve a path for the realization of the best suitable solution. Maybe we can’t stick the withered leaves to the branch. But we promise the welcome of a new leaf.

The curtains shall fall to raise again, not for you to empty your seats. We do not promise that hard days won’t follow, but we make a promise to stand by your side when they arrive. Join hands with us to make the place where you live a better place to live today and the best place to live tomorrow.
