Hip Hop/Rap magazine conventions

Colours: In music magazines there are normally bold colours some bright however no neon or over the top colours. There is always a colour scheme always consisting of black grays whites and come primary colours such as red.

Dress and props: In commercial hip-hop music videos there are normally expensive and over the top props such as sports cars expensive jewelry and clothes, and common in videos now rappers have diamond grillz on their teeth to show their wealth and stature. Clothes in a rap videos are normally baggy designer and over the top. They show there stature through there style of dress showing a rebellious personality and money.

Beats music and lyrics: The beats in these songs are normally not made with instruments and done all electronically in a studio. Some instruments are used however are then edited in a studio and changed to suit the song. The lyrics in rap and hip-hop songs are exaggerated and include profanity and rude remarks to women and other rappers. Women in rap and hip-hop songs are spoke about like an object which can be seen as offensive.

Over all in rap and hip-hop magazines we see many different conventions such as the use of obscene lyrics and profanity as well as an expensive style of dress. Rappers songs are aggressive and can be found offensive to some.

The magazines have news on the rappers like their new albums interviews and what's happening in their life. The magazines are exaggerated and give the rappers a high stature that people look up to. I also expect to see adverts and promotion for up and coming concerts and gigs as well as clothing such as JD sports and adidas as these brand are associated with rap music

POP magazine conventions

Colours and text used: The colours used on a Pop magazine are bright neon colours with big exaggerated Copy. Colours like neon pink blue red and green are seen allot in Pop and other cliché colours.

Dress and Props: The dress in pop magazines is up to date and trendy. The clothes are commonly bright colours, girls are normally in revealing clothes. Pop music normally involves green screens and CGI technology.

Music: Pop music is generally very up beat with high pitch catchy riffs and a shuttle base line. The lyrics stereotypically are about love and girls if a girl band about love and boys.

What I expect to see in a Pop magazine is things like posters of well known artists with a printed signature used to put on a wall of a fan. Interviews and promotion on albums and events. Celebrity gossip and news.

Rock magazine conventions

Colours: the colours used in rock magazines are generally dark similar to hip-hop rap magazines. The copy is normally big and exaggerated with exclamation marks. There is always a picture of a band or album cover as the magazines main layer.

Clothes and props: Clothes commonly seen in rock magazines are stereotypical rock clothes. Such as shirts ties leather coats jeans etc. Props used in rock magazines and music videos are instruments such as guitars drumsticks and other instruments relevant to the song. As there are many types of rock we see all different types of props being used.

Music: very heavy music with instruments barely any beats made using studio equipment like rap and pop where it relies on beats made on computers.

What i expect to see in rock magazines is advertisements to rock concerts and gigs, adverts and promotions for albums by well known rock artists. Artwork of various rock bands, interviews with bands and reviews on music.

Dance music conventions

Music: Dance music is very upbeat and fun, it consist of some lyrics but sometimes has no lyrics at all. All dance music is made using computers beat pads and music creation software. Dance can be fast and slow and fall in multiple categories.

Clothes and props: Dance music clothes can be very abstract and colourful neon colours are popular in dance music especially commercial songs. Some types of dance prefer baggy clothes where as other like tight or fitted clothes. Depending on the type of dance music the props used in videos can changeBeats and lyrics: not all dance music involves lyrics however most have an acapella of commonly a female voice this acapella is played multiple times throughout the song.

What i expect to see in a dance magazine is bright neon colours fun text fonts that stand out. I also expect to see advertisements and promotions for events gigs and concerts. I also expect advertisements for things such as dj mixers clubbing clothes and club adverts.
