Dear Members:

The end of one year and the beginning of another is a time to think about

possibilities and exploring new horizons. As Arkansas celebrates the holidays and reflects on the organizations that impact the life of its citizens, I ask you to think about AETN and what it offers our entire community.

In 2011, we brought you the substantive journalism of the PBS NewsHour, Frontline, and Need to Know, the extraordinary experiences of Nature and NOVA, compelling history from American Experience and breathtaking performances in music, theatre and dance, as well as educational, curriculum-based series for our children and grandchildren, including The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, Curious George, and Sesame Street. And we brought you local productions about Arkansas, including Arkansas Week, Exploring Arkansas, AETN Presents, Barnes and . . ., Men and Women of Distinction. We brought you specials about Arkansas and it’s residents covering subjects that matter to Arkansans, ranging from Severe Weather to Social Security. And all of these programs were possible because of contributions from viewers just like you.

I hope that AETN has made a difference in your life over the last year. There’s no better time than right now to make a special year-end gift to AETN. Because when you send your gift before December 31st, not only will you help us bring you the best news, educational, and cultural programming available, you qualify your gift for a 2011 tax deduction.

Your special year-end gift will help us strengthen our service to the state, telling the stories of Arkansas’s people, places, and issues that our citizens won’t get – and that they can’t get - anywhere else.

We deeply appreciate your continued support. If you have any questions about your membership or about programming on AETN, feel free to send me a note.

From everyone here at AETN, happy holidays!

HIV/AIDS IN ARKANSASFriday, December 1 at 6:30 pm

HIV/AIDS in Arkansas is an annual pro-gram on AETN that seeks to dispel the myths and uncover the facts about HIV/AIDS transmission. This program details how the disease can be spread, preven-tion, testing, and current treatments; with health care specialists providing a special focus on the aging and how they are cur-rently coping with HIV/AIDS.

The aging HIV/AIDS population is growing because powerful HIV drugs are

allowing many people to live into their 50s and beyond. While this is good news, it also brings some new challenges for HIV service providers’ states the Arkan-sas Department of Health. Additionally new infections among people 50 years and older Americans are now seen as the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. HIV/AIDS population. In fact, CDC estimates that by 2015, they will comprise more than half of those infected, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Please join us as we present HIV/AIDS in Arkansas Friday, Decem-ber 10 at 6:30 pm.
