Dear Viewer,
As we close 2010, we look back on our accom-plishments from the year and plan for the future.
This year, AETN brought you: special call-in programs to address such issues as depression and domestic violence; “Quiz Bowl” and “Student Selects” to showcase the academic and creative talent of Arkansas’s students; exclusive debates to help you make informed decisions during the elections; training and workshop opportunities for educators to enhance the classroom experience; and numerous special events like Family Day and Com-munity Cinema to keep you involved. We produced local, original programs, such as “Silent Storytellers,” which won Emmys for Best Music Composition, Best Videography and Best Director/Post Production, and delivered PBS favorites like “Antiques Roadshow” and groundbreaking coverage of world events including “NOVA: Emergency Mine Rescue.”
Yes, 2010 has been a great year in public media, and AETN will continue to bring you only the best in programming, events and educational opportunities. But to do that, we need your support. Many people plan their charitable giving with the New Year, and I hope that you will consider the impact a gift to the AETN Foundation can have across the state and across generations. Your donation not only
helps ensure that quality programming like “Nature,” “Masterpiece” and the Create channel continue to be broadcast to your home, but it also allows AETN to make free, educational programming and opportuni-ties available to all Arkansans through our broadcasts, online, in classrooms and in the community.
Besides PBS programming, your contribution enables AETN to produce shows for, about and important to Arkansans, illuminating the culture and heritage of the Natural State – a feat rarely duplicated by other televi-sion stations. Each new membership, underwriter and charitable gift to the AETN Foundation helps us stay on the air, reach out to the community, educate future generations and remain commercial free.
As an added benefit, if you make your donation by Dec. 31, you will be eligible for tax savings on this year’s tax return!
While there are countless worthy charities to consider when doling out your donation dollars, I sincerely hope that you will pledge your support to the AETN Foundation. The AETN Foundation exists to raise the funds necessary to support AETN’s mission of enhanc-ing lives through trusted public television programs and educational services – a mission we cannot tackle without viewers and members like you.
Thank you for a wonderful 2010, and happy holidays.
From the Director

December Community Cinema to feature “The Calling”
It takes a true calling to make faith a way of life. “The Calling” follows seven dedicated Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Muslim Americans on a dramatic journey as they prepare to become professional clergy. Embark-ing on life paths that demand tremendous personal sacrifice and commitment, these seminarians must uphold timeless truths in an era that values quick fixes and hot trends, and face a public that challenges the very relevance of their mission. A new look at an old
job, “The Calling” presents a fascinating look at how faith is lived today.
Join us for great conversation and great film as we present a free screening of “The Calling” as part of Community Cinema on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. at Hendrix College in Conway.
Refreshments will be provided! To RSVP, visit our Facebook page at facebook.com/aetntv.
For more information about upcoming films visitaetn.org/engage/communitycinemaor call 800-662-2386.

EDUCAT ION
AETN’s services and resources for educators have been exalted to new heights during 2010. Perhaps the most exciting highlight of 2010 has been the explosive growth of Arkansas IDEAS: Online professional development capitalizes on technology’s strengths to make it easier and more affordable for educators to continue and reinforce their learning across time. More than 21,000 educators are registered to use Arkansas IDEAS with over 79,000 hours of professional development awarded. One of the primary reasons for this phenomenal growth has been the high quality of professional development made available throughout the portal.
AETN is proud to announce their recent acquisition of ASCD online professional development for Arkansas Educators: “Imagine learning when you are at your best—and where you learn best. Imagine being able to revisit content and video demonstrations beyond a single professional development or classroom session. With ASCD’s PD Online, state departments of education, education service centers, school administrators, and college faculty can choose the specific topics needed to meet a particular teacher, classroom, school, university, or district need” (ASCD statement). AETN will soon be adding 77 user-friendly, self-paced online courses synthesizing the best work of ASCD’s authors.

Coming in January 2011!“Men and Women of Distinction: Miller Williams”The general public might remember Miller Williams as the man who delivered the Inaugural Poem at President Bill Clinton’s 1996 inauguration. But in the world of literature, Miller Williams ranks among the best of American poets. Williams is a man who discovered his calling early in life, writing poetry under the guidance of his mother as a boy. In this one-on-one interview with host Ernie Dumas, Williams speaks about his childhood and how switching from professor of biology to professor of litera-ture changed the direction of his life, including accepting a position at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he co-founded the University of Arkansas Press. Be sure to watch “Men and Women of Distinction: Miller Williams” in January!
