What is advertising? Advertising is a form of communication for

marketing which is used to persuade and encourage an audience such as listeners, viewers, and readers to take action i.e. to purchase something.

To advertise something you are drawing attention to a product in a public medium in order to promote its sales.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A MAGAZINE ADVERT?

The purpose of a music magazine advert is to… Promote the artists To sell their music And to also attract the audience A magazine advert will also need to be eye catching for the purpose of appealing and attracting their target audience.

THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF MAGAZINE ADVERTS

A music magazine advert will include: The name of the artist The title of their album or song The release date of the

album/song Artwork related to the album

or an image of the artist The font; colour and style will

have relevance to the theme of the album or the artist appearance

The logo or name of the record label

A review of the album or a song

Information about where to purchase the album or song

A Brief information on the album such as tour dates etc.

Links to the website of the artist or there social media

This is very important and all magazine adverts will have the name of the artist as the audience will need to know who that album is from in order to purchase

it. The point of this magazine advert is to also promote the digipak by that artist

Similarly to the name of the artist, this is also essential as the audience will need to know

what they are purchasing and also the magazine advert is promoting the album to the audience

The release date will allow the audience to know when they are able to purchase the product which is why it always be needed in a magazine advert.

This is main purpose of magazine advert – to inform the audience when they can buy the album

Usually the image of the front cover of the album is the same with the magazine advert in order to ensure brand identity and to promote the digipak. However it doesn’t necessarily

have to be the same but should ensure the same theme. New artist will usually have an image of themselves to create

recognition whereas well known artist can use abstract imagery or artworks.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS – FONT The font will be relevant to the artist or the album’s theme. The font used on the album title will usually be different from the rest in order for it to stand out. The font used for the name of the artist will usually be the

same throughout all there digipaks and posters.

Having the record label will help the company get acknowledgment and credit for there part of the

work and by the audience knowing which record label they are signed, we get the idea of what kind of

music to expect .

The reviews will tell the audience how good the album is so they can purchase the album. There

will be different ratings and reviews from different companies to show how others will rate it

Having a link to the artists website on your magazine advert will enable the audience to gain

more information regarding your album and singles. The magazine advert may also have a link

to record label.

Extra information will give the audience a better idea of what will be in the album and the
