Spanish American War

Yellow Journalism is reporting in a sensationalist style. The papers reported anti-Spanish stories and showed a one-sided view of the war. Yellow Journalism caused the United States to support the Cubans; They believed that the Maine was getting attacked. Yellow Journalism also lead to the war. First, Yellow Journalism caused the United States to support the Cubans. They did that by using paper to influence the Americans to side with Cuba by printing anti-Spanish stories to sell more papers. Second, Yellow Journalism believed a battleship called the Maine was getting attacked. The Maine exploded in Havana Harbor on February 15,1998. They blamed Spain for the mysterious explosion that took the lives of 260 sailors, this angered the Americans even more. Now some historians believe that a fire in the coal storage caused the Maine battleship to explode. “Remember the Spain” was a rally cry for war supporters. Third, Yellow Journalism lead to the war. This drove up newspaper sales and influenced the decision to go to war. The more the Americans read the paper on the Spanish American War the more they wanted the military to help/support Cuba. The Americans fought the Spanish in Cuba, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico. The war cost the United States 250 million dollars. Spain lost the Spanish American War. In the peace treaty after the war Spain lost Cuba, Puerto Rico, and The Pacific Island of Guam.

Did America put their heads in something that they should not have? America was interested on naval bases, coaling stations, and sugar industries. America first became interested in 1820. The first thing they went for was the sugar industry. Hawaii and America began the sugar trading. Everything was great until McKinley Tariff raised import rates. A small depression swept through Hawaii. Queen

Liliuokalani did not want America to have control over the sugar industry. After America gained control the Hawaiian kingdom deceased 2 years later. The queen was also abdicated by the people. when the people decided to abdicate the queen, America had gained control over all of Hawaii. America had won the leadership.

In 1887 the constitution of the kingdom of Hawaii was created and signed. This document gave the authority to America. Now America had full control over the sugar planters. Later Hawaii became the 50th state to join the union. America may have gotten what they wanted, but may have hurt people and a kingdom during the process. 3

Imperialism in Japan

There are many Positive and negitive outcomes to Imperialism in Japan. One positive is It open trade between America and Japan. One negative is it made Japan into a threat to the US for influence on china.

There are many positive things that came from the US influencing Japan. Some are such as it let the US demonstrate our massive naval strength and it opened trade between the US and Japan. With the US influencing Japan we transformed it into and industrial power to help it and it built a strong military. It made Japan Into the strongest power in East Asia.

There are also many contradictions to the Imperialism in Japan. One negative thing is the fact that the outcome came to be that we built them up and they turned on us. It is because we built them up that they had such a strong military and they became a threat to the US for influence on China.

There are many Positive and negative outcomes that came from Imperialism on China. One positive thing is that it opened trade between the US and China. One negative is we had to help them in times of need. An example would be the Boxer Rebellion.

There are many positive things that came from the influence of the US on China. One of the positive things is the fact we got to trade with china. It also gave the US more territories and more resources.

There are reasons why imperialism in china had a negative output. The first one is they were unwilling and we didn’t help anything considering they were already being influence by other nations. We also had to help them with their issues like the Boxer Rebellion.

Emilio Aguinaldo, after the defeat of the Spanish began to call himself the new president. The U.S refuse to recognize him of this because the they wanted to imperial and get more territory. Emilio A. and the Filipino people didn't like this and felt betrayed so they decided to declare war on the U.S. The U.S ended up winning the war and gaining control of the Philippine's. The Philippine's didn't get there whole freedom until 1946. the Philippine revolted for many reasons, two mane ones being betrayal by the U.S and for freedom.

It didn’t take long for the U.S to start getting involved. they began to first get involved through the Spanish American war. they Americans and the Filipino people helped each other in getting the Spanish out. the Filipino thought this would lead to there independence. but it didn’t, it lead to the U.S starting imperialism.

Have you every been controlled? Have you ever felt the need to revolt? Freedom, and betrayal are jut some of the reasons the Philippines revolted and the U.S got involved. The Filipino people no longer wanted o be controlled. They wanted to be able to appoint there own leaders. They no longer wanted to be controlled by Spain. Emilio Aguinaldo was a Filipino general who was big in the Philippine Revolt against Spain. Emilio Aguinaldo had been fighting for independence from Spain for 2 years. They finally got there chance to get there freedom when Aguinaldo agreed to team up with the U.S and surround the Spanish. The Spanish surrendered August 14,1898.

21 Guns

People think Diaz shouldn’t have said no to doing the 21-Gun salute then just apologizing to the U.S for arresting the crew members. Others believe he shouldn’t have to do the salute because it seem that America is to spoiled and selfish. Those that believe Diaz did the right thing, made him a great hero and an outstanding leader. Diaz has done a lot of improvement to his country, like expanding railroad companies for people to transport to different areas of Mexico. And the way to get money for the railway industry was having the power to get money from other foreign countries. A lot of Mexicans that supported Diaz said that he should be honored of severing his people very well.

Making good decisions Some people believe President Woodrow Wilson did the right thing because Diaz didn't seem to care , meaning he just didn’t seem to at least care for what he did to America’s men. Diaz had arrested nine members of a ship that the U.S owned. This is where Woodrow believes something should be done. Woodrow asked congress to give him an army that would defeat the Mexican Army. But as soon as that happened Diaz had his army ready to go. What makes people think about this part is did Diaz have a great relation to with his country without using his powers. How can he summon an army faster than Congress could. This what makes most leaders, using great decisions to have even more power than ever. Most Americans believe that decisions could help you become a better person. That’s what Diaz did in order to have Mexico on his side.
