Neighborhood Trick or Treat off the Street Halloween Event Friday, October 25, 6-8 p.m. Looking for an alternative to traditional trick or treating? Children 10 and younger can trick or treat at the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center and enjoy an evening of activities, including carnival games, photo opportunities, face painting, costume parade and arts and crafts. Go the Distance! Half Marathon Training Group Thinking about running a half marathon? This is a 16-week build-up to the Jan. 19, 2014, P.F. Chang’s Half Marathon. All running speeds/abilities welcome. Participants should be comfortable running a total of 10-15 miles/week at approximately 4 miles an outing without stopping. For more details, see page 10.

Couch Potato to 5K Beginning Running Program Saturdays, 9 a.m., for 11 weeks beginning October 5(Ages 8+) Go from couch to the 5K finish line with training that gradually increases your endurance and fitness level. Receive guidance every step of the way in a fun group setting. Most sessions starts with a 30-minute running related workshop followed by a group training run. On December 21, those interested can meet at the Reach 11 Sports Complex for the Jingle Bell Run 5K (separate registration fee). For more details, see page 10.

LEAGUE SIGN UP TAKES PLACE AT THE GLENDALE PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE, LOCATED INSIDE THE GLENDALE ADULT CENTER, 5970 W. BROWN ST., 8 A.M. TO 5 P.M. MONDAY – FRIDAY. Glendale Parks & Recreation does not place individuals on teams, but individuals may be listed on a Free Agent List made available to teams short on players. If you would like to be placed on the Free Agent List or have any questions about the Adult Sports program, please contact Mike Davis at 623-930-2841 or [email protected]. Adult Sports program participants must be age 18 or older. To receive Glendale resident rates, proof of residency must be provided. Proof must show address and be current within 60 days. Examples include driver’s license, water bill, etc. Teams will pay the maximum non-resident fee until proof of residency is verified, then a refund will be issued for the appropriate amount. Refunds take 7-10 business days. For more Adult sports options, check out the Exercise/Sports Special Interest Classes section on pages 4-6 and 9-10.

This is a national skills competition in which girls and boys in four separate age divisions compete against each other in punting, passing and placekicking in a fun and engaging forum. Scores are based on distance and accuracy. This program is FREE for boys and girls ages 6-15.

Winners from the local competition will advance on to the sectional competition to be held on Sunday, November 3 at the Sahuaro Ranch Main soccer field, 59th Ave and Mountain View. Only the top four boys and girls first place finishers in each age bracket from the pool of Sectional competition champions will advance to the Team Championships at the Cardinal Stadium to be held during a regular season home game. Before/After School Recreation ProgramQualifies for DES assistance

The “am/pm,” “am only” and “pm only” programs are licensed recreation programs providing a variety of activities for children ages 5 to 13 such as arts and crafts, recreation activities, guest speakers and much more! The programs are regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and can accept DES qualifying families (contact your DES caseworker for information). The program’s focus is the total well-being and safety of each and every child, while having fun at the same time! Educational activities, snacks, group games and homework time are offered by caring, adult staff members. Program sites are open early release days, but closed on national holidays or when the school campus is closed.

Free ToursHistoric Main House Museum Tour Enjoy a trip back in time! Learn about the house built between 1891 and 1898, the history and the people who lived there. Beginning September 1, Thursday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., Sunday, 1-4 p.m. (Groups of 10+ please call 623-930-4201 for reservations). Closed in August.

Ranch Site Tour Learn about the various buildings, barnyard, trees and groves. 11 a.m., September 27 and 28 and December 6 and 7. Meet at the Main House front porch.
