Dear Parishioners, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year. Nativity Plays Up and down the land in many schools throughout the country there will be na-

tivity plays being performed by countless numbers of school-children. Johnny is hoping to be cast as Joseph, Jane is hop-ing to be Mary, whose going to be the innkeeper? The third nativity film is out in the cinemas during December and I must say previous films have been very funny. Luke's Gospel Luke's Gospel tells of shepherds seeing angels whilst watch-ing their sheep at night. He tells us that the King of kings was born in a humble manger. A manger is not an ideal place to have a baby. Luke's Gospel is written to non-Jews and Luke was a Gentile and he is concerned to point out that The Christ was born for Everybody. Luke speaks of shep-herds coming to witness the birth of Christ. Shepherds in the days of the birth of Jesus were not well thought of as they lived with their sheep and were rather smelly and were not trusted pillars of the community. God cares for the poor and the marginalised in society and so shepherds are the first to hear of the Messiah’s birth. Matthew’s Gospel Matthew, in contrast to Luke's Gospel, is written to a Jewish readership and he tells us of Wisemen / Kings / Magi who followed a star from the east to visit the new King. The Kings, on finding the Messiah baby, pay him homage with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew is telling his readership that the birth of the Christ child, born in a man-ger in Bethlehem is the fulfillment of what they've all been waiting for, which was foretold by all the prophets. This Christmas why not pray for the marginalised in society and for the poor, and ask God to meet them where they are. Will you bring your gifts of worship to God this Christmas? All he wants is your heart. Yours in Christ, Rev Steve Osbourne

Pray for the Families of Shahzad and Shama - Pakistan Infuriated by rumours that a Christian couple had desecrated a Quran, an angry mob attacked and beat to death a Christian man and his pregnant wife on Nov. 4. Their bodies were then dragged to a brick kiln and burned. Shahzad Masih and his wife, Shama, were killed in the village of Kot Radha Kishan in Punjab province, about 40 miles southwest of Lahore, Pakistan. One report indicated that the employer of the couple, who were bonded labourers, had started the rumour at a local mosque because they owed 100,000 Rupees, or $970 dollars. The couple had three children under age 6. Pray for Bible School Students - Vietnam On Sunday Nov. 2, a group of people wearing masks began throwing stones at a Bible School church in southern Vietnam during a worship service. Nearly 300 people threw stones and other objects at the church, breaking many windows that had been repaired after the school was attacked in June. Some who attended the worship service were followed home and se-verely beaten by the attackers; the injured Christians required emergency medical atten-tion. Pray for Gusur and All Syrian Christians - Syria A Syrian Christian man is mourning the death of his son, who was killed by Islamic State mili-tants. After the IS overran the village where "Gasur" and his son lived, the two chose to re-main in their home knowing that they could be killed. When Gusur was called to the hospital one day, he prepared himself for the worst. His son, "Iksander," had died of a gunshot wound to the head. Hugging him and crying, he recalled the words of Job, saying "God gives and God takes away." VOM-supported evangelists who work in Syria were able to meet with him in another country and encourage him with the Word of God. Pray for Gusur, who was the last Christian to leave his village, and for all Syrian Christians who are threatened by IS. Pray for Pao and New Hmong Believers - Vietnam A week after leading 40 people to Christ, Pao and the 40 Christian converts were attacked by a large group of police officers and village guards during a worship service. On July 13, the group was worshiping in one of the believers' homes in northern Vietnam, when the of-ficers broke into the meeting. One man hit Pao, injuring his face. The officers and guards de-stroyed the home with hammers and crowbars, and told the home's owner that they would throw him in prison if he continued hosting worship services. Pao has been imprisoned re-peatedly for his evangelistic outreach. During a two-year imprisonment, he was given the nickname "The Buffalo Man" after being forced to walk on all fours like a water buffalo. Pray for Believers' Strength - India A newspaper in Uttar Pradesh, India, reported that 310 Christians had been forced to con-vert to Hinduism on Oct. 26, but local sources indicate that this was a false report. The arti-cle also stated that the Christians had been involved in witchcraft. A pastor in the region confirmed that no such forced conversions had taken place. Hindu radicals apparently grabbed one Christian man, intending to convert him to Hinduism, but the man was re-leased shortly after police officers intervened.

Dearly Beloved, Romans 12.21 says, “Do not let evil defeat you; instead conquer evil with good.” The Scripture states, “Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good.” In other words, when somebody is rude or inconsiderate, don’t sink down to their level. Don’t be rude and inconsiderate back to them. No, if you are going to rise higher, if you are going to overcome, you have to do just the opposite. You have to show kindness, grace and mercy. It isn’t always easy; in fact, it’s almost never easy. It takes a lot of humility to treat someone with respect who is disrespecting you. But do you know what happens when you walk in humility? God gives you His grace. He empowers you to walk in His good-ness. The Holy Bible plainly says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the hum-ble.” Today, walk humbly with God and get the better of evil by doing good. Show mercy and sow mercy. Receive His grace, receive His power and receive His strength to be every-thing He’s called you to be. So at this very moment why not pause and pray, “Heavenly Father, thank You for the grace to overcome in this life. I choose Your goodness. I choose Your ways. Help me to show Your love and walk in peace in every circum-stance in Jesus’ name. Amen.” God bless you as you live this way - in His love, George & Joyce N. B. The Pastors' and Leaders' Conference last month went off very well. Also, I had the opportunity to visit areas that were hit by Hud Hud. In the 2nd week of November Joyce and I will be sharing at a conference in Delhi. Please pray that God will give us His Word and the unction to minister it. Thank you so very much. Please continue to keep Pastor George, his family and their ministries in prayer over the Christmas season.

Dear Friends at St. Andrew's Church,

Hello from the USA! I've been meaning to send you an

email message for a few months now, but things have been

so incredibly busy that I've been held back.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm having a truly fantastic time here.

I really feel like I've grown a lot since I've been away, and I think that

now I can finally say that I'm a man. And it's all thanks to God - he's

blessed me with an understanding of His blessings, helping me to re-

member in most situations how wonderful He truly is to me.

I've made a nice little group of friends from all over the world, with one of my best friends being

from California and another from Manchester in the UK! I've made German, Spanish, Swedish,

and Australian friends, but I really feel like God has helped me to discern my true friends, and

that has helped me mature a lot, and to also be happy with my own company sometimes. He's

always holding my hand.

I've been struggling with the academic assessment structure in California which is very different

to the British system. Rather than doing an essay or two in a semester and one exam after the

Christmas holidays, here we have usually 2 or 3 exams per subject, as well as incremental class

work through the semester, which means that everything is all crammed into a short space of

time. It's a real struggle to adapt, and I know that I can't fully transform my approach to my stud-

ies. But as long as I try my best to get the best grades I can, I know that God will appreciate that

and guide me. He has guided me very well so far and I'm sure He will continue to do so!

The fun times have been truly 'awesome, dude!' (Yes, they do say that here!!!). Just tonight I've

watched an American football game, with a live marching band and cheerleaders, and after

that we had a fantastic time at a massive fireworks show. The show celebrated the combination

of British and American rock and roll music, and it did make me feel quite proud of England! It's

the most amazing thing I've seen here - I didn't even know that fireworks that big existed!

I can't possibly express enough how much I've grown whilst I've been here, but I'm forever thank-

ful that God has made it happen for me. It's been a challenge, but one that's forever improved

me. Thank you for all your support back home, it means a lot, it really does. I'd love to share my

experiences with you all and talk to the congregation about what I've learned on my travels

when I return!

All my best to everyone, and see

you all at Christmas! God bless you.

Lewis Gordon

P.S. Please do remember to embar-

rass my mother at the nearest ser-

vice to her birthday - it's on the 28th

November and I won't be there to

embarrass her myself this time!

Please continue to keep Lewis

in your prayers during his time

in California.

Please help feed local people in crisis, by buying food from this list and donating it to Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank.

Food donations are welcome at all three of our Churches (St. Andrew’s, St. Peter’s and All Saints) on Sunday mornings.

Many thanks to Park Hall Primary for their kind donations of 954 items to the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank following their harvest services this year.

earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.”
