1 Hey Madison County 4-H, Im sure you are all wondering where the newsletter has been. I have not written or sent a newsletter since I started my position as the Madison County CYC. I appreciate your patience as I start my journey. For those of you who have not met me, Im Casey Wenstrand. I am very passionate about 4-H and am happy to start sharing my passion with all of you. Im learning all about Madison County 4-H and taking notes on what things work and what can be improved. Im already making plans to bring more opportunities to our 4-Hers. Please take the time to read all about Intermediate Youth Council and everything else going on in Iowa 4-H and Madison County Extension. Im very excited to be your new CYC. retinal scanned at $5.00 a head.

4-H Livestock identification on 4-H Online

January 1, 2018 marks the first day you can log into

4-H Online to verify your animals. Beef must be done

by February 1, 2018.

Youth Council Food Drive

Madison County Youth Council is having their second annual Food Drive. They are asking for each club to help them collect nonperishable food for the local food banks. All food needs to be dropped off at the Madison County Extension office by 4:30 p.m. on December 15.

Welcome Madison Co. Robotics 4-H Club Madison County 4-H wants to extend a warm welcome to our new Robotics 4-H Club and their leaders Nicole Willimans and Janis Hochstetler. The members of this club are competing as an FLL team on December 17 in Johnston, IA. Wish them luck!

Donate to 4-Hers for 4-H 4-H’ers investing in 4-H’ers.This is the essence of the 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign, sponsored each year by the State 4-H Council. The campaign raises money to fund projects that benefit 4-H members throughout the state. This year, our goal is to reach $29,000 with a suggested $3.00 per member donation. We also want every county in Iowa to participate! Let’s strengthen 4-H!

Farm Service Agency Youth Loan Program

Farm Service Agency offers a variety of opportunities for youth 10-20 with their Youth Loan program. The loan funds may be used to buy animals, equipment and supplies; buy, rent or repair needed tools or equipment; or pay operating expenses for a project. These are direct loans and have a maximum loan amount of $5,000.00 over a period of 1 to 7 years. The current interest rate is 2.750% for the month of November and varies from month to month. Additional information and application forms are available at your local FSA office,

or you can call at (712) 542-5137.

LOANS and SCHOLARSHIPS

Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarships for 2018

The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced applications

are available for the 4-H Scholarship Program with over

90 scholarship opportunities to be awarded valued at

over $100,000. A complete list of scholarships, helpful

hints, eligibility, instructions and applications are

available online. The deadline is 11:50 p.m. on February

1, 2018. Questions or concerns? Please contact Mary

county offices regarding specific opportunities and

applicant eligibility for their 4-H'ers.

Attend the Ricochet Facilitator Training Adults who work with middle school youth in schools or out-of-school time youth programs are invited to attend Ricochet -- An Extreme Leadership Adventure facilitator training on January 18-19 at the Story County Extension office in Nevada, IA. Attendees will participate in experiential learning of leadership development: information, attitudes, communication, decision-making, and stress management skills. Day 1 = Richochet foundation and Level 1 activities; Day 2 = Richochet 2 and 3. Cost: $30 per day; Curriculum: $24. Register according to your needs. 4-H Exhibit Judges Trainings Offered East Central Iowa: January 27, 2018 from 9:15 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Reinig Center in Toledo, Iowa, 1007 Prospect Dr. If inclement weather, save Feb. 3 as snow date. Participants will enjoy learning from ISU Extension and Outreach staff as well as current 4-H judges. Registration and payment of $45 must be completed and received by Jan. 16, 2018.
