Postcolonialism
The Conceptions, Pioneers, Issues
Abstract
Postcolonialism is the theory that analyses the discourse of colonization.
It tends to reexamine the history of colonization from the perspective of
colonized.
Said’s most influential and arguable book “Orientalism” makes a very
influential statement on the nature of identity formation in the
postcolonial studies. It had a great impact on thought about the colonial
discourse.
Together with E.Said, Homi Bhabha and Gayatri Spivak make up what
Robert Young described “the holy trinity” of postcolonial critics. They
acknowledge Said’s book as their immediate inspiration.
[3]
This paper will explore the definitions of (Postcolonialism) and trace the
growing of this theory and then discuss the thoughts of “the holy trinity”
of postcolonial critics and then discuss the issues of this theory.
