COPABELLA As we have been making a determined effort to reduce numbers recently, the only mare we have in foal this season is Royal Native, dam of Julia’s favourite Vegas, who has become a huge success in Europe. The main aim of our breeding programme has been to produce youngstock like Vegas, with international potential. Visage now has progeny competing successfully in both showjumping and eventing in Europe and New Zealand as well as all over Australia. Cadiz, who is now a successful World Cup campaigner with Brooke Campbell, has also sired a small group of exciting youngsters prior to being gelded for health reasons in Europe. Our programme has focused on combining the best available bloodlines and the results speak for themselves.

The breeding herd is based at Redleaf in Wilberforce, and managed by David Cameron and Tallara Barwick. REVELWOOD STUD This year we have welcomed the first crop of Stedinger (Sandro Hit x Landadel) foals since his arrival in Australia… and what an impact he has made! A stallion that continuously produces exceptional types, wonderful scopey movement with reach and elasticity, but best of all, superb natures. Stedinger himself has made a return to the competition arena since his arrival in Australia. Regularly scoring well over 70%, he and Gina Montgomery have proven that he’s no slouch as a competition horse and is ultra competitive when measured against the best horses in the country. OO Seven has also had a remarkable year through the success of his ‘flagship’ offspring Agent de Jeu (OO Seven x Florestan). Agent has come along in leaps-and-bounds and has made the transition to small tour very successfully. One of the main highlights this year has been the purchase of the exceptional German Riding Pony stallion Noble Dancer. Since his arrival in Australia, he was the undisputed Champion of Champions at Dressage with the Stars, has won numerous Novice and Elementary tests at State Championship level and is now confidently training all the medium/advanced level work. A phenomenal performance that is now being supported by some exquisite foals. The foals this season include a wonderful selection of embryo transfer offspring from our competition mares, by sires such as Stedinger, De Niro, OO Seven, Quando Quando, Ferrero Rocher, Dark President, Noble Dancer, Scolari and Smash Hit. YALAMBI FARM STUD - EUROPE ON YOUR DOORSTEP Story by Suzanne McGill Like the Margaret River wine region in which it’s located, Yalambi is a somewhat hidden gem, but growing some of Australia’s best performance horses in show jumping, dressage and eventing. Nestled in more than 100 gently rolling acres, Yalambi was founded in 2000 on a family-owned property by international showjumper Rory Hovell. “Our vision has been to produce top Australian sport horses with the best European bloodlines,” explained a very approachable Rory. While that’s hardly a novel concept, Yalambi’s exceptional results have been driven by Rory’s overseas training, competition and study. “It’s interesting how things have turned out,” said Rory. “Initially, we specialised in developing showjumpers, but our breeding to achieve movement, athleticism and trainability has produced horses really well suited for eventing and dressage, too.”

“We started with a strong foundation of imported mares, which we put in foal using frozen semen from top European stallions. Never compromising on our mares has paid off with the quality of our horses and foals.” Yalambi then made the decision to import quality stallions to Australia and make them available to local breeders. Val D’Isere VDL (Atlantic) was soon followed by the young Holsteiner stallion Carpino Z (Carinjo) and more recently by Cassini Rosso (Cassini II) and Fair Diamond (Indorado). Carpino Z now needs little introduction to the Australian equestrian community. While competing successfully in both Australia and Europe for Yalambi, he sired several elite and premium foals at recent ACE assessments - rapidly building a reputation for producing progeny with outstanding trainability, rideability, temperament and talent in all disciplines. The first foals of Fair Diamond and Cassini Rosso born this season have exceeded expectations - modern, attractive types that Yalambi expects will also have multi-discipline potential. Currently, Carpino Z, Cassini Rosso and Fair Diamond are available for breeding in Australia with fresh chilled semen. Rumour has it that a new young stallion might soon be joining the Yalambi team, carrying the much sought after bloodlines of Contendro I, Landadel, and Cornet Obolensky. Australian breeders, watch this space. Having the on-site expertise of international showjumper and Yalambi Head Trainer Alison Rowland, plus the breaking/training skills of Andrew Cloak, has elevated Yalambi to a full-service training centre that will expand further when a new 70 x 35m indoor arena and viewing area are built later this year. “People often travel some distances to Yalambi (which is three hours south of Perth), so we’ve installed extensive yarding for visiting horses and accommodation for people,” noted Rory. The stud welcomes guests to view the mares, stallions and young stock, train in Yalambi’s large sand and grass arenas or take lessons from Alison and

Rory, who are happy to work with riders of all levels. Making the most of its world-class facilities, Yalambi runs clinics and competitions each year. A three-day weekend with US showjumping legend George Morris in 2015 added another dimension; while Yalambi’s annual three-day Showjumping Classic in March will draw participants and spectators from throughout WA to tracks by international course designer, Gavin Chester. Given their breeding profiles, it shouldn’t be long before more young Yalambi horses will join the list of Yalambi-bred stars like European-based Yalambi’s Landor and Yalambi’s Chiquita (ridden by Evie Buller), and outstanding Australian performer Yalambi’s Bellini Star, who notched up top Australian World Cup placings with owner Stephen Hill in 2014.
