The City of London is the largest city based on population and is the capital of the United Kingdom as well as England. London is also one of the largest urban areas in the entire European Union. London's history goes back to Roman times when it was called Londinium.

Like many European cities, London was highly impacted by World War II - especially after the Blitz and other German bombings killed over 30,000 London residents and destroyed a large part of the city. The 1948 Summer Olympics were then held at Wembley Stadium as the rest of the city rebuilt.

The Culture of London concerns the arts, music, museums, festivals and other entertainment London is widely believed to be the culture capital of the world. London is also home to notable cultural attractions such as the British Museum, the Tate Galleries, the National Gallery, the Notting Hill Carnival and The O2.

Culture

A variety of landmarks and objects are cultural icons associated with London, such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the tube map. Many other British cultural icons are strongly associated with London in the minds of visiting tourists, including the red telephone box, the route master bus, the black taxi and the Union Flag.

London has a diverse range of peoples and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries.

It is the largest stadium in the world , it is the second largest stadium in the UK after Wembley Stadium and the fifth largest stadium in Europe. The stadium is the home of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), The stadium is considered an icon of English rugby .

Although the ground is usually only occupied by rugby union, it has in the past hosted a number of other events, such as concerts by, Bon Jovi, Genesis, U2, The Rolling Stones, R.E.M., Lady Gaga, and Rihanna 's Diamonds World Tour.

University College London (UCL) is located in London, United Kingdom, and the oldest and largest constituent college of London . Founded in 1826, UCL was the first university to be established on an entirely secular basis, to admit students regardless of their religion and to admit women on equal terms with men.
