Years after the launch of the first Mad Rock

rubber formula, our new Science Friction 3.0

compound marks a special milestone for the

Mad Rock brand. After exhaustive research and

a new production process originating in the USA,

our new formula has distinctively different

characteristics than our previous batches.

More durable than any of our previous formulas,

our new Science Friction 3.0 also boasts higher

friction. This optimal balance is incorporated

into our new mix by increasing the tear strength

and the memory of the compound. Due to

its unique characteristics and unparalleled

performance, our new Science Friction 3.0

formula is used on our shoe components like

the 3D Hooking Heel, 3D Concave Sole as well

as the soles in all of our rock shoes.

In addition to the new formula for the sole and

components of our new 2013 line, the new

Science Friction formula was also incorporated

into our new rand rubber mix. Higher friction and

durability for the rand rubber is a testament to our

commitment to performance and improvement

in our rock shoe line. Enhancing the elasticity

of the rand rubber was also a priority when

developing the new rand rubber. As our new

Science Friction R2 has greater give without

the loss of performance, our new models feel

extremely comfortable and sensitive, giving you

that glove-like fit.

For climbers who are looking for value, but are concerned about sacrificing performance, look no further. The warm-forging manufacturing process we use for the Concorde draw enables us to offer you both. Weighing in at 87 grams and connected with a Dyneema Sling, the Concorde boasts 26 KN along the major axis and 10 KN along the minor axis making it one of the strongest aluminum wire carabiners on the market. All draws are individually tested and CE and UIAA certified. As a Mad Rock first, we will be making this draw available for purchase both individually and as a 6 pack draw set.

Wingman

Mad Rock Aviator uses a standard tube-styled belay device as starting point and improves it. The forged and machined aircraft aluminum body is light weight and provides optimal heat dissipation. The unique removable spring keeps the device from locking when you feed the rope. The Aviator also works for belaying seconds off an anchor and can be easily rigged for releasing a load. Its unique ergonomic “fin” can be used to modulate speed while lowering or descending.

The spring on the Wingman belay device prevents the carabiner from locking when feeding the rope out. When loaded and the brake is engaged, the spring collapses and enables the device to lock.

The R3 crash pad utilizes a completely new fill system that enables the pad to lay flat, folds easily over features and increases the dampening ability of the impact force from falls. The baffles of the new R3 contain recycled EVA foam that would normally be collected and shipped for disposal. This sustainable and innovative part of the system reduces manufacturing costs and helps reduce environmental waste. The lower manufacturing cost enables us to provide a more durable shell system. The 1680 denier nylon shell construction makes this pad THE most durable crash pad in the industry. Because the shell will have a longer lifespan, we will be offering replacement foam for the R3 system so it can be passed down for years to come.
