Quality Assurance

Each work piece is machined within 1/1000 of an inch tolerance.

After fabrication, measurements of each work piece are taken to ensure compliance with the original design.

Alterations are made if necessary and the finished drawings are uploaded to our machine work repository.

Quality AssuranceExtensive studies have been performed by this

group regarding the variables that may affect the cutting of fibers.

Fibers are milled in a block specifically design to guarantee proper length.

Each fiber is inspected and after polishing is ready for splicing.

Scintillating fibers are stored in dark containers to avoid bleaching.

Dry machining to prevent chemical damage to fibers.

Protective covering for exposed fibers during milling.

2013 Time Line10hrs/week in machine shop during Spring semester 2013 (14 weeks)

>20hrs/week in machine shop during summer 2013, months (May-August)

Additional 10hrs/week over fall 2013 semester (16 weeks)

By December 2013 I will have over 550hrs accrued; enough time to meet the January 2014 deadline.
