YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TWO

TYPES OF ALARMS IN THE

BUILDING

THERE’S THE GAS

MONITORING SYSTEM

AND THE FIRE

ALARM SYSTEM

GMS LEVEL 1 ALARM

Evacuates the floor that the incident is detected on

A blue strobe will flash and an alarm will sound

You are required to evacuate the floor of concern and wait for the all-

clear to re-enter

GMS LEVEL 2 ALARM

Evacuates the entire building!

A blue strobe will flash and a voice will give you evacuation

instructions

You are required to evacuate the entire building and go to your

predetermined evacuation area

Instructions for re-entry will be provided to the group leader

FIRE ALARM

There is only one level with the Fire Alarm System

A full building evacuation is required!

A white strobe will flash and the fire alarm will offer

evacuation instructions

A Fire Alarm is treated the same as a GMS Level 2 Alarm

HARDWARE AND

MATERIALS

The shop is equipped with a modest

supply of hardware and materials.

When you are in need of hardware, fittings, tubing, or

material feel free to stop by and see if we can help!

If we don’t have it on hand we can usually point you in the

right direction to obtain it.

RECOMMENDED VENDORS

If we don’t have the part in stock, you’ll need to order it.

We have a list of vendors on our site: www.che.utexas.edu

Click ‘Department Services’ ‘Machine Shop’ ‘Vendors and Materials’

CNC MACHINING

We have a Haas CNC with four axis capabilities.

Programs will be provided by the shop.

The machine is capable of machining parts up to 14” x 36”.

3D PRINTER

We have a MakerBot Replicator 2X dual head printer.

It prints ABS and Dissolvable filament.

Models need to be in OBG or STL format.

Software is available to test your models for printability!

MODEL AND DRAWING FORMATS

The shop uses SolidWorks so SLDPRT files are

preferred.

Prints should be dimensioned in standard (Imperial

system) dimensions.

Metric to standard conversion can lead to mistakes!

LOANER TOOLS

We have a large selection of tooling available

for borrowing.

The tools must be signed out before they can

leave the shop.

Some of the tools available are:

Screwdrivers, Hammers, Socket Wrenches, Tube Benders,

Soldering Irons, Allen Wrenches, Calipers and Many More.
