    MACEDONIA

    THE GENOCIDE BEGINS

The Committee for Union and Progress in the Ottoman Empire was transformed and went thru

transition but never really substantiated as a political institution.

The Young Turks after their climb to power substantially reversed their political agenda and enforcedbrutal and oppressive regime that propagated Turkish hard-line right wing nationalism, moving

Turkish mainstream politics further towards extremism.

Their new hero, the Salonika born Mustafa Kemal, the father of modern Turkey, was a shallow andnarrow minded man of many extreme prejudices and childlike fantasies about global dominationand purity, which were opposed to the natural multi-ethnic social fabric of Anatolia.

On the opposite side, Venizelos, the Greek Prime Minister was just as well indoctrinated with

Nietzsches Super Man philosophy that found many open ears in the Kingdom since the infiltrationof a German noble bloodline that could not penetrate and influence Greek politics any better.

In the most opportune manner of imperialist attitude and colonialist megalomaniac ambition forregional domination, the Great Powers, as well as each local national movement tried and exploitedthe pressure cooker power vacuum that left a huge hole in the regional stability, as no alternative

political structure was put in place to replace the withdrawal of the Ottomans.

The carve up of the former Balkan colonies had begun, and it was a power struggle for maximum

land grab to take each as much territory as they possibly can, for keeping.

This would turn into a huge failed social experiment that would affect the region and influence local

    politics even today.

It is very hard to determine whether the Balkan Wars had begun as consequence of the expulsionsand the partition of Macedonia at the 1913 Bucharest conference, or they were just an excuse to

enforce one of the biggest campaigns of ethnic cleansing in modern history.

However, it remains a fact beyond doubt that this was done in full view and was openly sponsoredthru Greek Government policy, which would see the removal of 650.000 Macedonians from the

Aegean part of the region incorporated into the new state.

It remains open for interpretation to decide what one should think about a nation that considers

butchers like Venizelos, as national heroes and fathers of their contemporary state.

Modern Greece is artificially build around a fascist national ethos of superficially invented pureGreeks, who are nothing more but descendants of the many forcefully assimilated minoritiesincorporated into the new of an ethnically clean Christian Orthodox identity, at no- compromise cost

of denial of previous culture, tradition, religion and heritage of thousands.

The partition of Macedonia would remain a milestone of imperial abuse of power and inhumanity.

One must bear in mind that those who have made the tough decision to stay on, would have had to

compromise this with total denial of their own heritage, religion, tradition and culture.

No half measures, only a full capitulation and total assimilation at cost of complete identity changewould be accepted by the New Greek state.

Had it happened recently, the entire political administration in Greece from that period would havebeen imprisoned for crimes against humanity and abuse of human rights, instead, leaders from that

Era are the fathers of the contemporary Greek nation, embedded in the national conscience of acountry that hasnt really changed much.

Names of entire regions as well as family names had to be changed, only by accepting a Greek name

one could resume integration into the countrys social infrastructure.

Entire communities of Slav Macedonians, who had previously been declaring themselves as ethnicBulgarians, had been denied education in their own language, in regions traditionally Bulgarian

    dominated.

Hundreds and hundreds of schools had been closed down or perhaps burned to the ground,Churches had been repossessed, property had been confiscated, assets nationalised and denied to

    their rightful owners.

Two thousand year rich multinational heritage had overnight been changed to suddenly become

distinctly Hellenised and Greek, as if Antiquity had never seized to exist.

Political dissent was severely punished, and mock elections were staged to full the world of

    democracy.

Facts on the ground were telling their own stories.

Salonika, up until the Great fire that surgically burnt the entire Jewish district to the ground, had

been a majority Hebrew city for four centuries.

It boasted a huge community of Macedonian born Turks, who had been part of the rich Ottoman

    Heritage.

Albanians of few different confessions, all free to warship and observe each their own religion of

choice, had lived in Salonika for centuries.

Bulgarians had always been well represented in Salonika; the VMRO was established there at theBulgarian High School and many frequently commuted between the city and the countryside on

    regular basis.

Serbs and Montenegrin, Vlachs and Armenians, Bosnians as well as many other foreign nationals

established in business, all lived and worked mixing together and being socially active.

All these communities have been part of the rich social fabric for centuries, each having beenestablished around their own Millets during Ottoman rule, free to warship and observe their own

faith, speak their own language and pursue a profession of choice.

This was by far much better than any other society could offer a minority foreigner or perhaps a

    believer of another faith.

Back in the day, this amount of freedom for a subject person of another faith had been revolutionaryin most of West Europe, given that Ghettos and humiliation by segregation as well as inferior status

had been the norm for treatment of minorities.

It was not by incident that many have chosen Macedonia and the Ottoman domain, over much of

    Europe back then.

The Ottoman system of government despite of its shortcomings was by far much better andextended traditional Muslim hospitality, much of the criticism up until today is pure Western

    propaganda and anti-rhetoric.

To finally decide on the faith of thousands, in an open government sponsored two statearrangement between Greece and Turkey, in 1923 the population swap agreement was forced in

one of the biggest acts of ethnic cleansing in history, to determine the destiny of the region for ever.

That way, the departure of the Turks was sealed off and in their place arrived ethnic Greeks from

Anatolia, who could not be any less Macedonian having only recently settled.

Given this, I dont see how these people could possibly have any historic claim on Macedonia .

Year after year, whole communities would decide on departure, as Greece introduced Apartheid,

and life for other ethnicities was deliberately made impossible.

This would in turn shift ethnic balance in favour of Greeks for the first time in half a millennia, leaving minorities further and more isolated and excluded from society, that was becoming strictly

    Greek and xenophobic.

Entire towns like Kukus, which had been predominantly Bulgarian, would be razed to the ground, their population expelled or massacred, and in their place Greeks from Anatolia would arrive to

make false claims of identity theft to people who have always had direct descendant link to the land.

Each regional war, each conflict would only further contribute to the ethnic cleansing of the region.

The final nail in the coffin of multiethnicity in the region would be nailed with the Second World

War, when under the pretence of being under strict German orders, entire towns and villages ofRomas, or Gypsies, and Jews would finally be deported to the extermination camps in Poland and

    the Third Reich.

Of course, the war in Greece would be technically extended to provide one final push towards

removal of the last remaining communities of non-Greeks from the country.

In 1948, a region traditionally multi ethnic and cosmopolitan would finally take the shape it has

today, after a civil war that was predominantly over confiscation of land and expulsion.

The extreme contrast in the social fabric between two sub- regions in Macedonia today that belong

to two different countries speak of the identity makeover that reshaped Aegean Macedonia.

The artificial borders that divide the region have never been a true and transparent statement of the

demographics; neither do they speak of consistency in the social fabric of the land.

Today one may assume that, but in fact the entire region has been s ubject to social engineering, ofcourse only used as euphemism for ethnic cleansing.

Struga, a small local town in the Lake District, not far from the border between Macedonia and

Greece, is still and has always been a true small melting pot.

Only on the opposite side of the fence, in the neighbouring towns that were for centuries Slavsettlements and traditionally multi-ethnic, with rich Albanian and Vlach presence, today show no

    evidence of that.
