School of MACE Recommended Journals for Publication

14 December 2010 (V16)

NOTE

Selection criterion: high reputation and quality, recommended by experts in the field. Impact factors

(2009) are provided as guidance only. These are subject to change each year.

Disciplinary and cross-disciplinary research: Both disciplinary and some cross-disciplinary journals

are recommended. Whilst the school has research groupings, researchers are encouraged to carry out

inter-disciplinary research collaboration cross the groups and with other schools/institutes and publish in

their own disciplines and in other disciplines.

The process of journal selection: The initial list was provided by the Heads of Expert Groups, Heads

Research Groups and Directors of Research Centres in the school. It was then discussed at the SchoolResearch Committee, followed by wide consultation with all the academic staff members. The list will

be updated each year. Any feedback should be sent to Janine Flanagan.

Purpose of this recommendation: To provide guidance to the post-graduate students and

academic/research staff for journal selection for publications (not limited to their own research fields).

PG students should consult their supervisors for journal selection. Staff and students can publish outside

this list with a preference for high impact factors and reputation.

PGR Publications: The school encourages PhD students to submit at least two papers co-authored with

their supervisors to scientific journals before the end of the 3rd

year.

Journal Ranking: This was based in Australian government ranking of journals by a team of

international experts (not based on impact factors but based on their reputations and quality). The

rankings are A* (highest international leading) and C lowest.
