Macarthur Primary School Macarthur Primary School Macarthur Primary School Whilst the weather wasn’t kind, Louise and I were still able to enjoy a fantastic day for our wedding on Saturday. We have been absolutely blown away by the kindness, generosity and well wishes from the staff, students, parents and community members associated with Macarthur Primary. Thank you all so much for your support and friendship. Lions International Peace Poster Competition A majority of our students in grades 5 and 6 recently submitted entries in the Lions International Peace Poster Competition, designing a poster based on the theme ‘Peace, Love and Understanding’. Items were judged on their artistic merit and strength of conveying this message. Judging took place on Friday and it was very difficult for our judges to select a winner, however Jessica Tippett- Nield was selected for submitting the winning entry. Congratulations Jess – her poster will now move on to the next stage of this competition. Byaduk Show The Byaduk Show took place over the weekend with all students from our school having a piece of work submitted. Numerous students also submitted items of their own accord in a variety of different categories. Many awards were received by our students, with Jack Addinsall receiving an overall prize for the Champion Junior Exhibitor. Congratulations to Jack and the many other award winners. Grade 4/5/6 Bowls Program The ‘Learn to Bowl’ program for our grade 4/5/6 students will resume again on Monday afternoon at the Macarthur Bowling Club, following a break this Monday due to state-wide bowling competitions which took place. Visiting Performance The last of our visiting performances program, titled ‘A Swag of Tales’, took place this afternoon. These shows are a valuable addition to our curriculum program and staff are currently in the process of making arrangements for shows for next year, hopefully all as enjoyable as those we have had this year. School Review Next Tuesday our school will be participating in its school review. This is a DEECD requirement that takes place every four years, looking at successes that have taken place and areas for improvement, with information used to form a new School Strategic Plan for the period of 2014 to 2017. This process was commenced last year, with a School Self-evaluation written, with consultation from staff and sectors of the school community. As our review was pushed back a year, I have recently re-written this Self- evaluation Report and shared it with our reviewer Mr Howard Looney, a former Principal whose most recent position prior to retirement was in Warrnambool. Michelle Miller, Principal at Koroit, and Don Beaton, Principal at Cavendish, along with Richie Belleville, will also be participating in this process next Tuesday. Remembrance Day Next Tuesday 11th November is the Remembrance Day Ceremony with all students in our school participating. Students will walk across from school and meet at the rotunda at 10:45am, with a march then proceeding for all to arrive at the cenotaph shortly before 11am, where a one minute silence will be observed. Our School Captain Brae and Vice-captains Jess and Addison will have an official role in this service, with all students returning to school shortly after. Unfortunately, due to our School Review taking place at the same time, I will be unable to attend this community event. Legendairy Promotion In our ongoing efforts to promote health and wellbeing, our school has recently signed up to be a part of the ‘Legendairy’ campaign, being run by Dairy Australia (the same group who provided our cow ‘Mrs Udderfull’ near the front entrance of the school as a part of the ‘Picasso Cows’ program a few years ago). In this new promotion, children are being encouraged to ‘Start or End Your Day with Dairy’. To participate, families are asked to send along a washed dairy product lid or container, which will be put into one of the specially marked collection cartons at school. We will also receive some resources that will assist with health education and our school has a chance to receive prizes for being involved. So we ask everyone to start collecting dairy packaging items, send them in to school and remember to ‘Start or End Your Day with Dairy’. First Aid Policy In light of recent events, our school has gone through a process of reviewing our procedures and practices to ensure we are able to provide the best care possible for all of our students. This also involved reviewing our previous First Aid Policy, which resulted in a new one being developed. This was approved at our most recent School Council meeting. This policy has been included with the newsletter so all families can be made aware of our processes and practices. If there are any elements which require further clarification regarding our care and treatment of students sustaining an injury, I encourage you to please discuss this with me. Have a great week!

ARTISTS OF THE WEEK

The first two awards this week go to students in Grade 6. Congratulations to Claire Logan and Hamish Wortley for the carefully drawn “Escaping Insects”. Both students displayed an extremely high level of fine motor coordination and attention to detail with their art work. The third award this week goes to Jack Addinsall from Grade 3. After reading the story book, the Windy Farm, students were asked to create their own colourful and imaginative wind towers. Jack worked independently and concentrated extremely well through

the entire session to create his art work. Well done to all award winners. Anne McNaughton
