MACARTHUR NEWS
The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
Wednesday 9th December 7.30pm at the Farmers Inn
Nativity Play Cancellation
With regret we announce that the Nativity
re-enactment planned for Saturday 5th December will not proceed.
This is due to circumstances beyond our
control and we will endeavour to put on this production in 2016.
Christmas Greetings from MADA
The members of Macarthur Advancement &
Development Association Inc would like to wish all
of you a very happy and safe Christmas. As
Christmas looms on the horizon and we all begin the
task of planning Christmas meals and shopping for
Christmas gifts, let us pause for a moment and
remember the people who have lost their lives in
senseless acts of terrorism in many parts of the world,
take time to think of their loved ones who will be
facing a bleak Christmas without them and also the
people who live in constant fear and danger.
As we watch our children and grandchildren unwrap
carefully chosen gifts, given with love, let us reflect
on the true message of Christmas, a message that for
now is being drowned out by the acts of terror and
barbarism that are reported almost daily.
“Peace on earth and goodwill to all men”
There will be no Macarthur News in January but we will return in February 2016. Articles for the February edition should be submitted by the 20th January.

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day 2015 was marked by a
special ceremony this year. In this, the 100th
Anniversary year of the landing at Gallipoli, a
plaque was unveiled in memory of those men and
women from the Macarthur district who have
served their country in time of war. The plaque
memorialises those who fought and died on the
battlefield, those who have passed away in the
days since, those still with us today and the men
and women who will, in the future, serve this
nation.
Rev. Will Pickett participated in the service and
conducted the blessing of the roses and dedication
of plaques to honour Ted Nunn, Merv Sparrow and
Bill Luke.
Councillor Ralph Leutton unveiled the Memorial
Plaque and following the service it was taken to the
cemetery and installed at the base of the Aleppo
Pine that was provided by Council prior to Anzac
Day and is descended from the original Lone Pine
at Gallipoli. If you visit the cemetery to have a
closer look at the plaque, wander around and have
a look at the graves marked with a red poppy.
These are some of the men and women honoured
by the Memorial Plaque. The presence of the
Primary School pupils at the service is always
special as is the participation of the Head Prefects.
Following the service light refreshments were
served at the RSL Hall and this provided a chance
for people to chat and reminisce. Thank you to the
many people who made an effort to be part of a
special moment in time when we pause to remem-
ber with pride those who sacrificed so much.

Congratulations to Michelle Badenhorst from Suffoir Winery
Michelle is one of 13 farmers in Victoria
recently selected to participate in the Young
Farmer Scholarship program and is the lucky
recipient of a Young Farmer Scholarship. She
will be undertaking more training in Viticulture
to help grow their cellar door.
Part of her training will include studying
Viticulture, gaining practical experience in beer
brewing and testing the soil of the vineyard,
should they decide expand in the future.
Michelle plans to use this training to broaden
her knowledge in Viticulture, wine products,
craft beer, branching out into weddings, tailored
events and offering unique experiences such as
Chocolate and Wine pairings and picnics in the
vines. Well done Michelle!

Lions Club news.
On November 6th, 7th and 8th Port Fairy/Belfast Lions
Club hosted the Annual V2 District convention where
472 guests were in attendance. V2 extends from Dart-
moor to Deer Park and from Horsham, Dimboola and
Nhill areas in the north to the coast – in all 71 clubs.
Seventeen Macarthur Lions, (including partners) attended
at various times over the weekend and all were present to
provide the Sunday lunch for all who had booked in.
Much business was attended to, along with excellent
guest speakers over a great weekend of fun and fellow-
ship enjoyed in perfect weather.
Lions Christmas cakes are now available at various
outlets around town. Only a limited number are available
so get in early to avoid disappointment.
Santa has sent a message asking all children who
would like to write to him again this year to make sure
their letters are posted early so he can reply before
Christmas. Letters written to him C/- Macarthur PO,
with a name and address on the back of the envelope, will
be replied to.
Australia Day, 2016, is fast approaching and again a free function will be provided at the Macarthur Recrea-tion Reserve (see notice elsewhere in newsletter). Come along and help celebrate what is good about living in Australia. Newcomers to the area are especially invited to participate.
