MACARTHUR NEWS
The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
Wednesday 11th November 7.30pm at the Senior Citizens Rooms
Remembrance Day 2015
at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month ………
Earlier this year an Aleppo Pine, descended from the original Lone Pine at Gallipoli, was planted at the Macarthur Cemetery. On Remembrance Day a plaque, destined to be erected near the pine, will be dedicat-ed at the Remembrance Day Service. The plaque is dedicated to those who have served who are, or will be in the future, interred or memorialized in the Macarthur Cemetery. The dedication ceremony will start at 10.45am and include the blessing of roses in memory of Ted Nunn, Bill Luke and Mervyn Sparrow and conclude with the observance of a minutes silence at 11am followed by wreath laying. Light refreshments will be served at the RSL Hall at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Macarthur Christmas Nativity
Plans are being made for a special re-enactment
of the Christmas story on December 5th to be held at
various locations in High Street. This will involve
some walking (but not much) as we move from the
home of Mary to Joseph’s carpentry shop to the inn
in Bethlehem, the stable and the field where the
shepherds are keeping watch over their sheep. This
won’t happen without some help and we need people
to make the story come alive.
A choir of angels, young and old will be required and also shepherds, again some young, some older and some wise men. If you or your children would like to be involved please ring Merilyn Cook on 55761113 or email [email protected] . Everyone will be asked to provide their own costume but nothing fancy is required, in fact we suggest using items that you may have at home or are able to purchase in op shops. The choir will be singing well known Christmas carols so will not be required to learn lots of new songs. The evening will end with a community supper
provided by MADA at a small cost with profits used
to fund community projects. If you can help in any
other way, with sound, lighting or setting up, we
would love to hear from you too.
Dog concerns in Macarthur
Concerns have been raised about a number of
aggressive dogs in Macarthur that have been
rushing at walkers or their dogs. Dog owners are
reminded that all dogs should be confined to their
property so that they are unable to interfere with
vehicles or pedestrians. Failure to take action may
leave dog owners open to legal action if someone
is injured by their dog.
Your pets are your responsibility!
Residents who have concerns about the
behaviour of any dogs are encouraged to notify
Moyne Shire in the first instance. If you are
physically injured by an aggressive dog you should
lodge a complaint with the Police.
No person should be afraid to walk around town because of unrestrained dogs so dog owners are urged to take their responsibility seriously and keep their pets enclosed on their own property and take steps to ensure they cannot escape either under or over the boundary fence.

Youth Group for Macarthur?
Earlier this year MADA met with some of the
younger members of the community to find out what
facilities they would like available in Macarthur for
young people. The teenagers strongly identified a
Youth Group where they could meet and interact.
We have been told that there is equipment in town
that was used by a previous Youth Group and there
are several venues that would be suitable for the
purpose.
The next step is to find a person or group who will
make this happen. Parents, are you willing to be
part of a committee who will run a Youth Group,
possibly once a month? If a group of parents were
willing to be on a roster to provide supervision a
Youth Group in 2016 would be a real possibility.
Equipment is available on loan from Moyne Shire
to hold movie nights as part of the activities
programme. People involved in supervisory roles
will need a ‘Working With Children’ check (free to
people working as volunteers).
The Youth Group would be limited to young
people at High School.
If you are would like to be involved please contact MADA and we will convene a meeting to get this up and running. Phone Merilyn Cook on 55761113 or email [email protected] . MADA’S involvement will be limited to co-ordinating the meeting after which a committee elected on the night will take over. The young people in our community need a place and time to socialize in a comfortable and safe environment but it won’t become a reality unless you are willing to commit to making it happen. We would really like to be completely overwhelmed in the rush of people wanting to be involved.
Wanted
Docile donkey able to be led & a docile camel
or two for Christmas Nativity on December 5th.
If you are able to help please contact Merilyn
Cook on 55761113. Owners would be welcome
to be part of the event in non- speaking parts.
Help make Christmas special for the children of
the Macarthur district.
Fugitive spotted in Europe
Macarthur fugitive, N Oddie is on the move and was recently caught on CCTV in Tokyo, Japan. He is well known as a master of disguise and is believed to be heading to Europe. Mr Oddie is wanted for the illegal export of native animals. Locals are asked to report any sightings of this individual to the relevant authorities.

Broadwater Tennis Club Inc. Port Fairy/Hamilton Road
Broadwater Vic 3301
ABN: 23 827 673 600
Competition Tennis is starting on Saturday 24th October and we have two senior teams competing in the Hawkesdale/Purnim and District Tennis Association. If you would like to come and play tennis or just have a hit, feel free to turn up to training on Thursday nights from 5.30pm onwards at Hamilton/Port Fairy Road. We were very successful last season winning B Grade grand final – this year we are going to better that with two grand finals. Always looking for new and old players. Currently, the club is resurfacing court 1. Due to incorrect advice, the surface deteriorated badly and needed to be redone due to safety concerns. Thanks to the support from Moyne Shire and AGL, we have secured grants to help pay for the job. We have hot mixed the area and Plexipave on top. Another community project nearly completed. Dogs
I recently became aware of several instances of dog bites/attacks in the township. This is a very serious issue and dog owners are on notice that ANY dog not confined to a yard or enclosure and gets out causing a nuisance will face a hefty penalty. Your dog must be registered with the shire and this can be done at the local shire office. The ranger has been informed of the situation and there will be no warnings given as the potential for damage or injury is high. Your dog must be under effective control whilst in public either by leash or verbal command and be aware that any incidents involving your dog are your responsibility.
Bogus Tradesmen, scammers
Still operating in our communities as all sorts of trades-men. Recent ones pretending to have cleaned the solar panels on your roof and asking for hundreds of dollars in payment up front. If you didn’t ask to have the work done, don’t pay for it and refer them to me. I’ll be happy to assist them. Real tradesmen have marked vehicles, not unmarked vans or utes and usually have identifying cloth-ing or other types of ID. If in doubt, ring the police or a friend or relative. Don’t hand over any cash or documents beforehand. The Tax office scam was also doing the rounds and had plenty of people handing over cash with-out checking first. I became aware of a lady in QLD who paid the scammers a substantial amount of money, tens of thousands and still hasn’t realised she had been scammed. The calls to her stopped when she ran out of money. Check with me or any police station if you’re not sure.
Contacting Police
The contact number if you require police is now the universal 000. 000 is not just for emergencies; it is a general contact number and should be used to request police assistance. Don’t ring around until you eventually get on to a police member, call 000 if you require police assistance.
Stay safe.
