Karabo Molefe of LDAC spoke of how easy it is for one to try drugs and other substances. “It always starts small, and as parents we need to refrain from sending kids to bottle stores to buy us alcohol, because one day they will go there and buy that alcohol for themselves.” Karabo who has been a chairperson of LDAC since its inception in December 2014 spoke of how he first made sure the drugs were not sold in his home street “We had a major proplem of someone selling drugs in the same street I stay at, I had to make sure that stopped first before I stepped outside to stop other drug sellers from operating” said Molefe One of the nyaope addicts 27 year Peter Modise who started smoking in 2002 told the community how he did not mean to smoke nyaope “ I did not mean to start doing nyaope, it started small, with a Cigarette and from then slowly I entered in this world of nyaope and I have found it hard to stop and I am here today because I really need help.”Community Policing Forum Chairperson Rose Khutsoane says they are hoping to spread and reach all addicts “Mabopane station is the home of addicts and we hope to visit such places, have gatherings with more communites and addicts, to help them and make sure they rid themselves of this addiction.” S o m e of the addicts started

Gauteng picks up pace of housing delivery

The Department of Human Settlements in Gauteng is slowly starting to see an improvement in the number of homes being delivered on the back of years of a downward trend. Addressing the media in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo said since 2009/10 to 2014/15, the delivery of houses has significantly dropped, despite an increase in annual budget allocations. Roughly 41 000 housing opportunities were created in 2009/10. This dipped to around 16 000 units in 2014/15. “The lowest delivery of houses was in the last financial year and the drop can be attributed to the R2.6 billion irregular expenditure, part of which was redirected to repairing hailstorm damaged houses and the other to pay for invoices that were accumulated over the previous financial years,” said MEC Mamabolo. He said an internal investigation is underway to identify the officials responsible for irregular expenditure. Some senior managers have since voluntarily resigned following questions about irregular expenditure. In order to reverse the declining trend, the MEC said the department has implemented a turnaround strategy. This includes the setting up of a central Project Management Office to help improve internal efficiencies, effectiveness, contract and project management. MEC Mamabolo said since the turnaround strategy was put in place, progress has been recorded this financial year. Over 10 000 units have been built in only half a year. The MEC said they will use the last half of this fiscal year to exceed the target of the last financial year. “We have (seen a) quarter-on-quarter improvement of 126% and we are hoping that with each remaining quarter, we will up our figures.” The MEC said the department has improved its financial management compared with the past two to three years after receiving an improved and

unqualified audit opinion in 2014/15. Commenting on the situation at Kya Sands informal settlement, MEC Mamabolo reiterated that the community is being engaged. The department and the City of Johannesburg - led by the National Department of Water and Sanitation - are finalising plans for the implementation of bulk infrastructure in the area. On Monday morning, a group of residents from the area protested over poor service delivery, including housing and other basic services. “On the whole, we have built solid relationships with our communities across Gauteng … we remain steadfast in our belief that violence still has no place in Gauteng and that dialogue is our best option to resolve community matters,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za

City Welcomes back rehabilitation service users

Staff Reporter

In declaring war against the abuse of drugs and other substances, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Health and Social Development, Cllr Eulanda Mabusela, led a successful roadshow that was held in Hammanskraal at Mandela Hall on 6 August 2015 under theme "The City of Tshwane fights against drug and substance abuse". A Tshwane open bus was used for loud-hailing to convey awareness sessions and visit all hot spots for the day. As a build up to the roadshow, Social Development officials from both the City and Province conducted a programme to prepare service users for the MMC to refer them to the Dr FF Ribeiro Treatment Centre. A total of 78 service users were referred to the Dr FF Ribeiro Treatment Centre for rehabilitation. The service users were expected to commence with their treatment programme on the day of arrival. From the admitted 78, only 29 completed the programme; 2 were expelled recently for theft. The expulsion happened after the MMC's visit to the rehab to give motivation and support to the users. On Friday, 18 September 2015 the rehabilitated service users were discharged from the rehab centre and an exit event was hosted at Mandela Hall in Hammanskraal to welcome them home. The champions received a warm welcome and were commended for efforts made in managing and fighting temptations and completing the rehabilitation programme wherein they had a choice to either quit or soldier on. Parents were ululating when the bus arrived, the hugs, kisses and tears of joy really showed appreciation and success. The parents of the users, councillors, the Department of Social Development, Rand Water and other committed partners graced the event. "The future is bright and the end is glorious.

I have learned a lot at the rehab centre, especially about relapsing. I want to go home, pursue my skills as a hairstylist and be a mother to my kids". Emily Leballo (30) said "I am excited and proud of myself. I commit myself to being clean and away from nyaope. Peer pressure gives no future. I want to bond with my children and build trust with my mother. They all felt abandoned because of me and my actions". Campaign to register townshipbusinesses

Gauteng Premier David Makhura will launch a campaign on Wednesday aimed at registering 10 000 township Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) with a turnover of less than R1 million. The Qondis’ ishishini lakho (Fix Your Business) campaign is aimed at changing perceptions about business registration and awakening township businesses to the benefits of business formalisation such as opportunities for funding, credit lending and greater market access. “The township economy is at the centre of our programme for radical economic transformation. “We must work towards conditions where every rand generated from the township economy circulates within the township economy and benefits township residents,” Premier Makhura said. He said the campaign is part of Gauteng’s efforts to integrate township businesses into the value chains of big industries and sectors of the economy. The campaign will bring together various government agencies that deal with taxation, registration, funding, and water, electricity as well as liquor licenses under one roof to provide immediate onsite assistance to businesses across Gauteng townships. Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development, Lebogang Maile, said the campaign responds to challenges outlined by entrepreneurs during the Township Economic Revitalisation Roadshows conducted across 65 Gauteng townships last year. “During the township economy revitalisation roadshows, entrepreneurs complained about the red tape involved in getting a

business off the ground, especially about issues related to registration and permits, zoning, operational space, electricity and water connections. “These challenges stifle the growth of many businesses,” MEC Maile said. – SAnews.gov.za

Traditionally, job interviews are for companies to assess a potential employee. Job seekers like you have an entire list of things to remember to say and do to create a great first impression. However, it is equally, if not more important to also ensure that the company is a good fit for you. That's why you should be interviewing your interviewers at the same time. Get them to wow you with tales of a company that values all employees and you'll know whether or not they'll value you too. Unless you’re prepared to risk spending most of your day at a place that treats you poorly, we suggest that at your next job interview you steal the following clues with your eyes :Clues in the foyer: Don't leave their offices without getting a good look around. A few glances can tell you a lot of important information. Take note of what you see and hear. Is it silent? Is it formal? Is it cold? If yes, this is a tell-tale sign of what every day at the office will be like. Are you more productive in an informal and warmer environment? Then this place may not be for you. Keep an ear open for laughter, buzz in the chill room, and if you can, eavesdrop on a nearby conversation... what is being said is indicative of the relationship between colleagues, their priorities and if you’re lucky, their work ethic. Are you greeted with smiles? While you’re waiting, take note of the people that walk pass. Remember that everyone you see is a potential co-worker. If you are more comfortable in an environment where people are more welcoming, warm and open, then you need to consider whether or not you’ll be happy in a place that doesn’t

share your sentiments. What’s on their walls? This is particularly important if you prefer an environment that is involved in social activities: look for signups to various clubs like soccer or social responsibility groups. Are there many notices and rules pasted on the walls? If they make yo feel uncomfortable or restricted in any way, it's best to trust your instincts and look for better opportunities elsewhere.Clues from the interviewer: Carefully study the mannerisms, attitude and non-verbal clues emanating from the hiring manager, HR person, your potential manager, or anyone else present during the interview. Is the interview conversational or formal? Pay close attention to the way the interviewer speaks to you. If they are friendly, have a good sense of humour, you can assume that the culture within the company is similar. If you prefer colleagues that are less friendly, more formal and business-like, then perhaps you aren't a good fit after all.Is the interview process well organised? Entering a corporate environment that is organised is probably the most important aspect to look out for. Even if you prefer a more relaxed environment, with flexible hours, where creativity is welcomed and they have great open door policy, the company should still operate smoothly. If the interviewer is flustered, asks irrelevant questions, and seems unprepared in any way, your warning tingles should go off.

Movie: DopeCast: Kiersey Clemons,Kimberly Elise,Shameik Moore,Tony RevoloriDirector: Rick Famuyiwa

Dope looks at the realities of being a teenager in a crime-ridden neighbourhood where having good grades marks you as an outsider, yet the film still retains a unique humour stylised to resonate with the current generation's fascination with the music and fashion of the past. The racial context is also widely highlighted, both in the perception of black people in American society, what is expected from them and how to be “proper black”. Malcolm and his friends live in a rough neighbourhood called the Bottoms, and love everything from 90s hip hop culture, get good grades and are working towards college. This marks them out as geeks by their peers, and although they try to stay away from the gangster life, circumstances force them to enter the world of drug dealing. Whenever someone (read white person) goes off about how easy it should be to just stay away from drugs and gangs when you grow up in a neighbourhood like Malcolm’s, please revert them to this film. Even the ‘good’ kids can have no choice in the matter, including losing their life or that of their loved ones. Although Dope has comedic elements, it doesn’t lessen the impact such a world has on young people. There are many tense, dramatic scenes where a smart kid can easily end up on the wrong path, and whether or not you agree with the lead’s choices, an audience that has never experienced this life gains a sense of empathy.Dope also explores the modern drug trade how it is currently being operated – these days it’s less about standing on street corners and more about being technologically savvy. Malcolm’s crew sell their drugs through a website on the unregulated Dark Web, mailing the goods to customers and using Bitcoins as currency. Dope also challenges your ideas of drug dealers from ‘the hood’, and showing that the real consumers of the less hardcore drugs are the privileged white kids, evidenced by recent drug busts at the festival like Rocking the Daisies. A white kid gets busted, they get community service. A black kid, they get jail time. And then there’s the soundtrack. An eclectic mic of 90s hip-hop and pop-punk, this could rival Guardians of the Galaxy’s famous soundtrack.

Artist: AviciiAlbum: StoriesGenre: HouseYear Of Release: 2015

"California! Don't let me down! Seems so golden!" chants Avicii's Swedish homeboy Sandro Cavazza on "Sunset Jesus." It's a striver's tale, engineered by eight co-writers, that reimagines 1970s K-Tel-style AM radio pop as a Eurocheese house rave-up, complete with a relentless crowd sample that suggests a Rose Bowl full of Red Bull-chugging 6th graders. Avicii is one of the planet's most successful DJs, and he clearly aspires to the craft of countrymen like Max Martin, which is understandable in an era when producers are the new guitar gods. "Waiting For Love" counts off the days of the week against a Eurovision oompah beat; "True Believer" is pop-house piffle with Chris Martin on the chorus. Throughout, watered-down Daft Punk moves abound. The most successful tracks are the weird ones and, often, the ones that feel most Scandinavian.

A very well rounded album! It's worth every cent and not disappointing. It caters to all with a touch of reggae, afro-pop, afro-soul and a bit of a "Miley Cyrus" sound with track 13. I can see that she is not afraid of trying new sounds which i commend her for. Well done and may God Bless you! Better Than Phendula but still below Loliwe. I have listened to the whole album, My top 3 tracks at the moment are 1) Stop the night 2)Okutshia, 3)Izintaba . I wish Zahara could make Stop the night as the single for this album. Well done Zahara on your new album and i am sure people will fall in love with it. Oh YES YES On Point!

Mashaba optimistic after tourBafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba said the Central American tour which saw his charges beat Costa Rica and draw with Honduras was a worthwhile exercise as the team prepares for the 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifiers against Angola. South Africa beat Costa Rica 1-0 at the San Jose National Stadium, last Thursday, 8 October through a cheeky goal by Andile Jali before being held by Honduras 1-1 at San Pedro Sula’s Olympico Metropolitan Stadium on Tuesday. Erick Mathoho had given Bafana Bafana an early lead with a towering header but Erick Andino equalised moments later as the match ended in a stalemate. Bafana Bafana were more dominant in the first-half but Honduras piled pressure in the second-half creating some gilt-edged chances. It was the visitors however, who fashioned two late chances that could have swayed the match in the visitors’ favour but both Sibusiso Vilakazi and Mandla Masango saw their efforts hit the woodwork and narrowly missing the goal line respectively. Despite not chalking another away win in the Americas, Mashaba said the two matches were good exercise for his plans against Angola in November. “I could not have asked for a better work out,” said Mashaba on SAFA website. “It showed us areas which we need to improve ahead of the World Cup matches against Angola next month. “We have managed to shore up defence-wise and I am happy with how water-tight our back four have developed. The Bafana Bafana mentor also praised his midfield for keeping possession for long periods, a recipe for methodical build-ups. He however, said there was still some work to be done when it comes to finishing. “We could have stolen the match at the death, but Vilakazi and Masango were denied in the dying minutes.

Boks name team for Wales battleThe experienced JP Pietersen is back in the Springboks’ starting line-up for their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Wales at Twickenham in London on Saturday (kick-off 17:00 SA time). Pietersen - who scored a hat-trick against Samoa in the second pool match - is included in the only change to the starting team that beat the USA by 64-0 in the Boks’ final Pool B match, last Wednesday at the Olympic Stadium. The 63 Test-capped wing, who has recovered from a knee injury which kept him out of the USA Test, will wear the No 14 jersey and Bryan Habana will revert to the left-wing for this encounter. It will be the 42nd time they play together as a wing-combination in the Springboks’ starting team. Habana currently leads the try-scoring stakes at the World Cup with five, while Pietersen is joint second with four, a position he shares with five other players. “JP and Bryan have been in superb form and are playing some of the best rugby of their lives,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer. “They have been scoring some wonderful tries, as has Lwazi Mvovo, so it’s really great to know that there is good competition among the wings. “It made sense to reunite Bryan and JP on the wing as it brings a lot of experience to our backline, which has been doing well despite the relative inexperience of Handre Pollard, Damian De Allende and Jesse Kriel.” The Springbok bench shows four changes from the last match. give the South Africans a boost from the replacements’ bench.

“We could have stolen the match at the death, but Vilakazi and Masango were denied in the dying minutes. “But we would continue working out on that particular area. We also need consistency for the entire 90 minutes. “We finished the stronger of the two teams against Honduras and with a bit of that luck, we could have scored two good wins in Central America. Still a win and a draw are good returns." - Sports24.co.za
