29th Heritage Run - 7th May 2018 The 29th Heritage Run was another great success and was blessed with some glorious weather. Members arrived early to park up cars and book in entrants, sell raffle tickets etc., whilst the Caister Lifeboat crew and volunteers made the bacon rolls and cups of tea. There were 191 cars pre- booked but, unusually, there were a few non-starters this year. It was great to see former club secretary and Heritage Run founder Jeff ‘Pitters’ Pittman at the start. With some of the original club members also on the run it was like going back in time 29 years for me! Once the majority of entrants had set off we packed up and set off on the 62 mile run to Raynham Hall, a grand Grade 1 listed C17 house near Fakenham, which has been the seat of the Townshend family for 400 years. The cars looked great lined up along the drive to the house, although the heat in the sun had forced some to take shelter under the trees lining the entrance avenue. The Participants’ Choice award went to Jorian Tuxworth’s MG Magnette for the second year running, and the Furthest Travelled was Stephen Hearne from Musbury, Devon, in his MGB Roadster. Cont. There are some excellent photos of the event, which include many members’ cars, on John Allen’s Heritage Run

Flickr webpage - https://www.flickr.com/photos/norfolkjohn/albums/72157696764091345. There are also some

pictures taken by Mark Smithson, Steve Nichols and myself on our Broadland MGOC Flickr webpage

Including the raffle, we raised a brilliant £2932 after expenses, which will go to local charities, and many thanks go to

all those members involved with organising the run and all those who helped out on the day.

Stody Lodge Classic Car Event

A week after the 29th Heritage Run, 12 members found themselves on the route of last year’s run. Meeting up

at Caister Lifeboat Station we set off on a shortened version of the route, because there are several members

who never get to do the run, as they usually travel directly from the starting point to the finish to set up the

marquee etc. The weather wasn’t as bad as had been predicted and it improved as the day went on.

We eventually arrived at Stody Lodge and were directed to the orchard where we, and the Norwich MGOC, had

a special parking area. Dave’s superb Jaguar XK150 was singled out and he was asked to park it in the middle of

the entrance to the gardens.

David Johnson and Peter Thomas (Norwich MGOC) were asked to judge the best car of show and chose a

stunning 1954 Riley RME.

This was a very nice show with the great gardens making an excellent backdrop. Thanks go to the MacNicol

family for inviting us. For more details please go to http://www.stodyestate.co.uk/newsevents.

May Club Night Run to the Barnby Swan Inn

Although it was a bit of a rush for us to get to the Harleston starting point on time, the run to the Barnby Swan was

very enjoyable and worth the effort. Paul and Geoff had picked some great roads and lanes and the pace was gentle

enough to look at the picturesque countryside.

Several members had driven directly to the Swan and we joined them for a very enjoyable meal.

Many thanks go to Paul and Geoff for organising the evening.

Glenn Miller concert at Cromer Hall 5th

August

Hopefully you will have seen my email regarding the

North Norfolk Classic Vehicle Club’s invitation to

attend the Glenn Miller concert at Cromer Hall on 5th

August 2018. Although a couple of members

contacted me to say they would like to go, the

overwhelming response was that members would still

like a club stand at Helmingham Hall Festival of Sports

and Classics (see below). Thank you to all those who

responded.
