TITLE OF THE COURSE: MA (YOGA FOR HUMAN EXCELLENCE) Distance Education Mode 1. DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE / OBJECTIVES OF THE
COURSE INSTITUTION:
Thathuvagnani Vethathiri Maharishi established the “World Community
Service Centre” (W.C.S.C.) in 1958 at No. 26, II Seaward Street,
Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai – 600 041, Tamil Nadu, India, (Tel: 91-44-24411692,
email: [email protected]) as a forum for his teachings. His philosophy
covers every aspect of our life, body, mind and senses. Hence it is a total
package comprising of
• Simple and effective physical exercises to keep the body fit,
• Kaya Kalpa techniques for anti-aging process,
• Simplified Kundalini Meditation for a serene mind,
• Self introspection techniques for purification of thoughts and
• Brahma Gnanam to realize the divinity in man.
One of his visions blossomed in 2004 when he founded the “Vethathiri
Maharishi Institute for Spiritual and Intuitional Education” (VISION for
Wisdom), an educational wing of WCSC based in Aliyar, Pollachi Taluk,
Coimbatore District. (Tel: 91-4253-288733, email: [email protected] )
The work of this Institute is to focus on dissemination of Maharishi’s

philosophy and teachings to schools, colleges and universities and arrange
seminars and conferences to highlight the impact of Maharishi’s contributions
to science, philosophy, literature, individual peace and world peace. Several
colleges and universities have included Maharishi’s teachings in their curricula
and a number of scholars are presently pursuing their M.Phil. and Ph.D.
programmes based on his philosophy.
Aims and Objectives:
“For education to be complete, it should include not only the training of
the intellect but also the refinement of the heart and discipline of the soul”,
declared Dr. Radhakrishnan.
The vision of Vethathiri Maharishi Institute for Spiritual and Intuitional
Education is to fulfill this obligation.

To achieve peace, prosperity, happiness, harmony and wisdom by one
and all.
VISION for Wisdom
The Vethathiri Maharishi institute for spiritual and Intuitional Education
offers course in Yoga for Human Excellence. This course endeavors to
provide a spiritual, scientific, simple and practical way of achieving prosperity,
health, happiness and harmony. With the mission of propagation of the
teachings of Vethathiri Maharishi, the institute commits itself to enlighten the
people of all walks of life through education and training.
The institute, by its courses and practices, strives to achieve the
following:

* To train and develop the physical body for leading a healthy life.
* To rejuvenate the life energy, to retard the ageing process and to
achieve spiritual development.
* To offer meditation practices to strengthen the mind, increase its will
power, concentration, creativity and receptivity and ultimately to
transform the mind to achieve self-realization.
* To practice introspection techniques to purify the mind.
* To help every individual to realize the enduring values of peace, non-
violence and harmony to revitalize human society for restoring its
sanity and strength.
CAMPUS AT ALIYAR:
The campus is enchantingly situated at the foothills of Anaimalai range,
26 km from Pollachi in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, well-connected by
bus services. The Temple of Consciousness is the center place of the
campus. There are auditoria, classrooms, dormitories, guestrooms and a
canteen to serve the needs of the trainees. Only vegetarian food is provided in
the campus.
2. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO THE COURSE
The Course may be conducted through Distance Education Mode.
Candidate for admission to the MA in Yoga for Human Excellence shall
be required to have completed any Degree.
3. DURATION OF THE COURSE
The course shall extend over a period of two years comprising of
Annual pattern. Calendar year extends from January to December and
academic year extends from July to June including admission and
Examination period for each year.
Examinations shall be conducted at the end of the year for the
respective subjects.

4. COURSE OF STUDY
The course of the study for the MA in Yoga for Human Excellence shall
consist of the following.
• 8 Theory papers
• 2 Practicals
���� Examination shall be conducted at the end of the year.
���� Candidates shall be permitted to do the MA concurrently the UG/PG/
Diploma / Certificate programmes respectively. The course of study shall
complete theoretical along with practical training.
���� Unit wise continues evaluation should be assigned by the Institution.
5. COURSE DELIVERY
Most of the instructions are imparted through distance education
methodology.
The printed study material written in self-instructional style for both
theory and practical components of the course is supplied to the student
in batches of subject papers.
6. SUPPORT SERVICES
In order to provide individualized support to the student, the Vethathiri
Maharishi Institute for Spiritual and Intuitional Education has around
2227 VISION sub-centres as Manavalakalai Mandram Trusts
throughout India.
The students should contact the nearby Manavalakalai Mandram Trust
(VISION sub-centre) for initiation of meditation, Yoga Practices and
Introspection Courses. They should remit the fees for the same as per
norms fixed by World Community Service Centre. There will be 4 stages
of introspection courses of two days each and students should attend
these course classes.
The students shall attend the VISION sub-centres once a week for
practical. At the centers the students can interact with the faculties and
refer to books in library.

7. PERSONAL CONTACT PROGRAMME (PCP)
There will be one Personal Contact Programmes (PCP) for 5 days at
Aliyar every year. The students should attend compulsorily anyone of
Personal Contact Program (PCP) for 5 days in a year. They have to
pay the actual expenses for food and accommodation.
8. REQUIREMENT TO APPEAR FOR THE EXAMINATIONS:
A candidate will be permitted to appear for the University Examination
for any year if he / she has attended anyone of the Personal Contact
Programme for 5 days at Aliyar each year. Attendance in the contact
prgramme is compulsory.

The internal and final University examinations carry 50% and 50%
weightage. For Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA), the students
shall write two assignments for each paper before he / she sits for the
final comprehensive Examination (CE). The final Examinations will be
conducted at the various examination centres throughout Tamilnadu in
June and December of every year.
10. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION AND EXAMINATIONS
The medium of Instruction and Examination for all the papers shall be in
Tamil and English.
11. PASSING REQUIREMENTS
(i) A candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination in a
subject if he/she secured not less than 50 per cent marks in the
University Examination and 50 per cent marks in aggregate i.e. internal
and external (University) Examinations put together.
(ii) A candidate who successfully completes the course and passes the
examination prescribed in all the subjects of study shall be declared to
have been qualified for the M.A in Yoga for Human Excellence.
(iii) If a candidate does not complete the course successfully within a period
of 5 years from the date of his/her joining he/she will not be eligible to
receive the MA in Yoga for Human Excellence.
(iv) A candidate who fails in the examination can reappear in the next odd
or even semester as the case may be.
(v) No candidate shall be permitted to reappear for any paper more than
three times.

12. CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES
(i) All candidates securing not less that 75% of the aggregate marks shall
be declared to have passed in FIRST CLASS with DISTINCTION
provided they have passed the examination in every subject without
failure in any time within the course of study.
(ii) All the candidates securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks
shall be declared to have passed in FIRST CLASS provided they have
passed the examination in every subject.
(iii) Other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the
examinations in SECOND CLASS.
13. CONFERMENT OF MA in Yoga for Human Excellence
No candidate shall be eligible for conferment of the MA in Yoga for
Human Excellence unless he/she has undergone the prescribed course
of study and attended one Personal Contact Programmes at Aliyar
every year or has been exempted there from in the manner and has
passed the examinations as have been prescribed therefore.
14. SYLLABUS
The syllabus for various subjects shall be clearly demarcated into five
viable units in each paper / subject. Further every unit should have
learning objectives and books for reference, spelt out clearly.
15. FACULTY MEMBERS
The World community has 200 trained Professors 600 Assistant
Professors and 2000 Masters to handle the classes. The University may
use this faculty members for contact classes and examination.

16. QUESTION PAPERS
The University Examinations shall be conducted for 100 marks and it
will be converted to 50 marks as an external examination. The pattern
of question papers for all the subjects shall be as follows:
Part A – 10 Questions – No Choice
(Two Questions from each Unit ) 10 x 2 = 20 marks
Part B – 5 Questions – Either Or type
( Two Questions from each Unit) 5 x 6 = 30 marks
Part C – 5 Questions – Either or type
(Two Questions from each Unit ) 5x 10 = 50 marks
