WILLIAM HORNER

William Horner was an animation pioneer. He created the the Zoetrope in 1834.

This invention made animation easier to see because it used small slits on the side of the drum which a person could look inside and see the image moving. He was responsible for inspiring further developments in animation.

RAY HARRYAUSEN

Ray H, began the trend of stop motion effects for creative sequences in live action, with films such as Star wars in the 1980’s.

In 1953 he created special effects for the Beast 20,000 Fathoms. He learned a technique called Split Screen which inserted beast into real world backgrounds.

He was also renowned for creating the 7th Voyage of Sinbad. He often worked alone and his films could take as long as two years to create, a famous example of this was a skeleton sword fight in Jason and the Argonauts, in this he shot no more than 13 frames a day.

The 60’s saw some of his best years including One million BC and Sinbad the Eye of the Tiger.

AARDMEN ANIMATION

The two founders of Aardmen were Peter Lord and David Sproxman in 1972.

Their first work was for the BBC for a series for deaf children. Called Vision On. They later created a character called Morph. In 1997 Aardmen and Dreamworks got together to create Chicken Run, this as their first feature film.

In 2006 the pair split and did not renew their contract. In 2007 they signed a contract with Sony, their first feature 3D film was Arthur Christmas.

From December 2008, Aardman also started posting various flash games on Newgrounds, these were based on the characters Wallace and Gomit
