In this example, double the length and double the width before adding them together.

The perimeter of the football pitch is 340 metres.

100 + 70 + 100 + 70 = 340 m

(70 ! 2) + (100 ! 2)

= 140 + 200

= 340 m

I added the length and width and then doubled the result.

100 + 70 = 170

170 ! 2 = 340 m
