The sweet and delicious Home-run
Melon is a Minamiaso favorite, as well as its big brother the Jogai-Home-run.
To get around, why not go by bicycle, E-bike or on foot.
Shirakawa SpringThe most famous of all the water springs in Minamiaso, its enormous 60 tons per minute flow gives birth to the huge and beautiful Shirakawa
River. Surrounded by trees it is truly a magical place with the peaceful sound of flowing water.
Takezaki SpringFlowing quietly in the shadow of a bamboo grove this spring might seem small, but with its 120 tons per minute it alone provides over 3.5 km² of rice fields with water all year round.
Myoken Shrine PondThis beautiful shrine and its natural pond are dedicated to the shinto god of water Myoken.

Kawajigo Spring
As the name suggests this delicious and fresh water spring used to provide now disappeared Yoshida Castle with all its water needs.
Legend has it that the water sprouting from this pond brings fertility and many offspring, and accordingly it features a shallow playpond where kids can play and watch the koi.
The bottom of this spring’ s natural pond is covered with small “Kabuto” stones and pebbles, which were used in crop and harvest prediction ceremonies since the old days.
This big pond full of life is a favorite amongst children for playing around and is great for enjoying a quiet picnic underneath the many trees.
Named after the nearby temple this spring sprouts right underneath Minami Aso’ s railtrack and is a great meeting place for both locals and tourists.
Looking at the bottom of this spring sand blows up and flutters down again as the water sprouts. Why not relax for a moment underneath the gazebo or let the kids play in the shallow water.
This fairytale like Shinto Shrine holds a mysterious beauty with its deep blue water and large ancient trees. A nice place to walk around and enjoy the silence.
Flowers are always in bloom at this tiny spring, why not enjoy a bit of refreshing water in the shade of the small gazebo?
Katayama Shouou monument
Nearly 300 years ago Minamiaso was plagued with an enormous flood and resulting landslides. This monument is dedicated to a key player in the rebuilding the drainage system and leveling of the destroyed ricefields, mister Katayama Shouou.
Old Signpost built by Kai ArioAbout 150 years ago Kai Ario took it upon himself to build many signposts to show weary travelers the way. Now it‛ s characters have faded but its said to still protect travellers from all corners of the world.
Marked in green are the old tiny backroads used by local farmers, since two tiny cars can only just pass each other on these, thank you for being careful to keep the road clear for them.
Hakusui Iwato FestivalDuring this majestic Shinto festival Japanese flutes and Taiko drums accompany the many dancers.
The walkway leading up to the Shirakawa Spring is also the entrance to the Shirakawa Yoshimi Shrine (no bicycles allowed)Bussankan
Shizen-an
Here you can find plenty of local produce, freshly harvested vegetables, lunchboxes, souvenirs, Shirakawa springwater products, etc.
Follow the riverbank for about 500m for a beautiful view.
A small back road between the ricefields overlooking Mt.Aso‛s five majestic peaks.
Keep following the small irrigation stream.
Local fruits and vegetables can be bought
here at the many unmanned
stands.
The Torokko sightseeing train runs from March until November
on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays and every day of the
week during Spring Break, Golden Week and Summer Holiday.
