On Friday, January 27th, 2017, the McMaster Student Union (MSU) will host the 19th Annual MSU Charity Ball at the Hamilton Convention Centre in support of Food4Kids. Two thousand McMaster students, faculty, staff, and community members will attend this elegant evening, supporting our fundraising goal of $15,000. Over the past 18 years more than 16,000 attendees have joined in McMaster’s largest evening of dining, dancing, and live entertainment; together with our Community Partners we have raised over $200,000 for deserving local charities.

As we strive to present our most successful Charity Ball to date, we realize that it will only be possible through the generous contributions of the business community and corporate friends. I would like to inform you of the 19th annual McMaster Students Union (MSU) Charity Ball, with over 2000 students, staff and community members attending the gala held at Hamilton Place. The MSU Charity Ball is the largest formal event of the year. The 2017 event will mark the 19th consecutive occasion of MSU Charity Ball. Despite the fact that Charity Ball is the most highly anticipated social event of McMaster University, the root of Charity Ball’s success resides in its charitable purpose.

Each year, approximately 2000 attendees participate in the Ball, which is the MSU’s largest single event. History of theMSU Charity BallSince its inception in 1999, Charity Ball has grown from just 700 guests and $5,100 raised, to 2000 guests and $20,000 raised.

Each year, Charity Ball hosts a wide range of events, including:

WHERE WILL MY MONEY BE GOING?

Food4Kids

Food4Kids is a non-profit organization providing kids with limited or no access to food over the weekend with packages of healthy food. For many children, hunger is not an occasional missed meal... it is a way of life. Food4Kids ensures children leaving school each Friday with an insufficient food supply in their home are provided with nourishment vital to their physical, emotional, cognitive, social and academic

success. Since its inception in 2011, Food4Kids has grown to provide weekend food packages for 1335 children aged 5-14 years (1000 in Hamilton and 335 in Halton) each week throughout the school year and 500 children during the summer months. Sadly, over 200 children in the Hamilton area are still waiting for their weekend food packages. Food4Kids believes child hunger is a community responsibility we all share: while we cannot eliminate hunger and poverty, we can ensure any child in our community going without food will not have to worry about how they will be fed each and every weekend. Please join us by supporting these children and Food4Kids at MSU Charity Ball 2017.

McMASTER ALUMNI ADVANCEMENT: McMASTER SENIOR CLASS GIFT FUND

McMaster has a long and proud tradition of student and alumni support. In 1887 McMaster University was created from a bequest from Senator William McMaster. Since then, gifts from graduating students and alumni to projects such as scholarships, bursaries, buildings and equipment funds have enhanced the student experience and provided support to countless

students. Senior students have the opportunity to follow in this proud tradition of support by making a donation to their Senior Class Gift. This program is a wonderful way for students to say thanks for all they have learned and experienced while at McMaster and ensure that generations to come have the same opportunities as they did. By making their gift, students honour those who contributed to made their experience great. Funds from the 2014 Senior Class Gift Campaign will be used to fund the a sustainable project chosen by the senior class and Charity Ball executive, which in turn will benefit all future McMaster students.

Started in 1999, the MSU Charity Ball is the largest campus-wide formal at McMasterUniversity. The concept behind the event is to give back to the local Hamilton community.

Past themes for Charity Ball and local organizations that have benefited from donations include:

On Friday, January 27th, 2017, the McMaster Student Union (MSU) will host its 19th Annual MSU Charity Ball event at the Hamilton Conventions Centre.
