Explicit instruction:

Go through the steps using the mnemonic to demo its use in retrieval

Use the Pegword flashcard (has corresponding visual) e.g. 6 = sticks
Teach students how to use the p-strategy
Have students say p-strategy for each math fact
E.g. Sticks (6) and Sticks (6) = Dirty Sticks (36)
