Special thanks to the Department' of Parks .and Recreation ofthe State of California and Regional Parks of the County of Sonoma.

Cooperation from the County and State Park SupervisingRangers were more than 100%. Putting ,together the race permit andadjusting the rider limit to 300 werit smooth as ~ell as parking andthe _impact of riders on the course. On the other hand, thesanctioning process and dealing with NORBAwas very unprofessional.Although NORBAdid provide us with insurance, it was avery drawn outprocess.' - ~ve sent our sanction money to NORBAon October 22, 1987 andrecei ved the final papers 4 days pr ior to the race. ,I was unable toget straight forward answers from the beginning of this ordeal fromNORBA~At one point,-they cancelled our insurance with one compnay.and never notified me of this action. Additionally, numerous riders

had not receivedtheir membership cards as stated on the applicationthat. they will be mailed within three weeks. As promoters, we shouldnot have .to police the riders for something that is out of ourcontrol.

A race report made by the 'supervising State Park Ranger of.Sonoma District III indicated that groups of UNOFFICIAL and UNHELMETEDriders were observed racing with our paid participants. These peopletax the EMT and monitoring staff and in case of injury, take away fromcovering the paid participants. Additionally, nine unofficial·ridersraced across the finish line and had to be given a time. Theseinstances are unfortunate.

It is with misgivings that because of·the iiability riskplaced on the park systems, participants and myself as sponsor of thisevent bv thesein_t.ruders which is in:violation 0·£· my' signed permit
