Nick Edmonds
I was raised in Omaha, Ne. by amiddle class family. I had strict butloving parents. In my childhood Irarely attended church. I knew verylittle about God. Thankfully, I wasblessed with good parents, mentors
I was content with a low paying job Ididn't like because it paid for myinterests, bills and booze. I didn'tcare to save for a car or bettermyself. I was a slave to the alcohol. My health began to decline the more

and the sport of wrestling through mylife. I participated in wrestling, football and soccer throughout myschool years.
I started wrestling at the age of 5with football and soccer in the yearsto come. I was pretty good at footballand soccer early on, and quite bad atwrestling. I stuck with the wrestlingand it paid off for me as I grew.
I attended Millard North High andended football in my Sophomoreyear to concentrate on wrestling. Ifigured I wasn't big enough or tallenough to compete at a college levelfor football so I ended that career.
My Sophomore and Senior year Iplaced four times in state and wonthe state championship. It was anego booster for sure.
Most of my high school years wereconsumed with traveling, competingin wrestling and maintainingacademics.
After high school I earned awrestling scholarship to the NCAADivision II Power House atNebraska of Omaha University. Iloved being a part of a great teamfrom all over the country withdifferent backgrounds. One guy onmy team would invite me to biblestudies and or church on Sunday. The invite was always there but inever took it.
In college I was introduced to thedrinking and party scene. I drankin the off season. I knew I liked todrink and party but I always hadwrestling to steer me out of it. Early
I drank. I got so irritated that I alwaysfelt so sick. I woke one day to findmy body was yellow. Even the whitesof my eyes were yellow. I hadbecome so saturated with alcoholthat my body could no longer filter it.
God stepped in! I ran into a woman who was a
friend of my neighbors and sheinformed me that my body was verysick and that I needed helpquick. She told me about this placecalled Freeway MinistriesOmahaand all the good God coulddo in my life. I was lost but interestedin this Freeway.
Before entering Freeway, Ichecked myself into the hospital formy condition. Good thing I did asthe doctor gave me a 50/50 chanceof survival. In the hospital I was sonumb to everything. I remembertalking to God and just asking for Hishelp. I was at the hospital for severaldays. Upon discharge I headedstraight to the Freeway Men'sHouse.
At first I was weak and scared, mainly because I felt like a leper withmy skin being yellow and green. Iknew it would take time for my bodyto heal but I wasn't looking forward tohow rough it was going to be. Nomatter, I started reading my bible, getting the most I could out of theclasses and I prayed daily tocontinue to have communication withGod frequently. I remember tellingHim how sorry I was for doing this tomy body, for the person I had

on, I could see that lifestyle causinga problem down the road without thestructure of Wrestling.
I ended my professional collegewrestling career at Nebraska OfOmaha University after being on ateam who won the NCAA Division IINational Championship three times. Ishared time in the starting line upand was a back up for most mycollege years. However individually, Iwas a conference runner up and anational qualifier in my Sophomoreyear.
I was happy and sad at the sametime. Happy because I had muchfreedom, but sad because I felt I'dlost my identity. I tried to attain myBachelors in General studies butrather got a job and funded mydrinking and parting lifestyle instead.
My friends and I drank heavily mostnights and I would end the eveningin bar fights. I enjoyed this livingmuch and soon I became awomanizer and completely selfish. Iwas addicted to the strong outgoingfeeling alcohol gave me. My friendseventually moved on from this way ofliving but I seemed to be stuck. Youwould rarely find me not drunk orat the very least nursing ahangover.
become and that I was thankful toHim for giving me a second chance. At my worst he never left me. I toldHim I was ready to stay where Heput me and I felt my loyalty grow forHim. In my prayers I would alwaysask for strength and guidance.
In November of 2018 I askedJesus Christ to come into my life!
As the days passed and ourrelationship grew, I could see Christchanging me. Not only had I gainedsobriety but a new heart as well. Godhad started to restore my body,my mind and my soul. I was blessedwith a full time job, great hours, Ihave my license and He helped mesave my money and purchase aCAR! I no longer have to ride thebus! I have an amazing discipler whohas taught me more of Gods wordand helped to instill structure backinto my life.
I've been at Freeway for 10 months,I now assist the house leader, I'mthankful to have a solid relationshipwith God, for Freeway letting mestick around and getting a secondchance. I know that God will alwaysbe in my corner, He won't lie to me,He will never leave me, never put medown and pick me up when life'sstruggled knock me down.
I have a friend in Jesus.

supporting the house leaders, they are available almost anyhour of the day or night to showChrist.
Hy (top left) has stopped smoking and started helping lead the kitchen at
Freeway. Hy also continuously leads a class at our local treatment center,
Center Point, weekly. He is rock-starring these days! Larry (top right) is a
walking talking evangelist for Freeway. If hes not leading a class, he is
driving the vans, all while handing Freeway cards out and his testimony to
whoever will stop a moment. He helps love on the treatment centers that
come on Saturday nights and leads the outreaches for the men's house
each month. Mike (middle) is head of our media team and truly puts his
gift to work for us. His work is always on point each week. He also leads
the media for LifeSpring and HCN. He teaches the men's Sunday school
class for his church, LifeSprings, gathers alter-workers for Saturdays,
and preaches once a month for FWOmaha. Busy is an understatement
for these guys. Super proud of their passion for the lost and this ministry.
