Working with your Local Labour Team

Two years ago, this Government promised stability to a country in economic freefall. When we tookoffice, there was only five months’ worth of funding left to pay wages, to keep hospitals and schoolsopen, to pay pensions and social welfare. We were excluded from the international markets and ourreputation was in tatters.

Since then, Ireland has gone from being a problem case in Europe, to being its most likely success story.

We have renegotiated the EU-IMF to cut the interest payments and to free up investment for stimulus.

We have consigned Anglo Irish Bank to history, and secured €20 billion savings on that debt for thepeople.

The economy has returned to growth, and there has been an increase in employment in the privatesector for the first time in four years.

And through all this, there is a commitment to reform, across all sectors of our society and of public life.

In two years, and with the effort and support of the people, our country has moved from chaos tostability.

And we have done that, not by denying our country’s problems, but by taking action to deal with them.

It is time to get on with finishing the task we started and to build on what we have achieved as acountry so far. I am confident in our capacity to recover, to put this crisis behind us and to face thefuture with hope.
