May 2018 Newsletter At Lyndon United Methodist Church, we exist to accept, love, serve and connect all with the healing power of Jesus Christ!
From the Pastor’s Pen “I thank my God every time I remember you.” Philippians 1:3
Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed! In this Easter Season I give thanks for the Resurrection of God’s Son, Jesus! Halleluiah! This year, more than ever before, I have experienced the Resurrection in new and powerful ways. I am so grateful!
I’m grateful to God, for the Risen Savior and for the power of the Holy Spirit that I have experienced in such powerful ways. But, most important, I have experienced the Body of Christ, revived and alive, in each of you! My deep thanks to Lyndon United Methodist Church faith community for all of your love and prayers. Together you have carried forth the ministry of the Church as the Body of Christ! What an awesome experience indeed!
Your teamwork and effective ministry in your Pastor’s absence has been amazing! Awesome stories have come back to me concerning your teamwork as the Body of Christ! I am so grateful to hear of a great Holy Week (with a new addition of the Stations of the Cross), Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday all coming to a great climax at the Easter Sunrise Worship at the Burns’ Farm, and Easter Worship at 10:30 a.m., I am thankful that you are the Body of Christ at work in the world.
My son, John, and family, want to express our thanks for the love, support and prayers we have experienced. We are thankful for your love and support. Many thanks for each act of kindness you share as Christ’s Body.
Christ is Risen Indeed!
Pastor Caren

A new Church Pictorial Directory would be a welcome asset to have in our congregation. We want to make certain to include all members and constituents with updated information. Watch here for further updates, settings, and details! Picture It!
New Chalice
Isaiah 61:3 (partial)- to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes.
It all began with a TV show about glass making! (a process which uses ash, sand and heat to create beautiful art from
ordinary ingredients.) From that came the idea, in worship team, of finding someone to use the ashes from our Ash Wednesday Worship (also included were ashes from Palm Sundays past), to create a blown glass artwork for worship. Our goal was to create something of value, something representative of how God takes the ashes of our lives and turns them – and us- into beauty that glorifies God.
Wyatt, a childhood friend of Laura and Lisa’s, had taken up glass blowing some years ago. Pastor Caren and I went to visit with Wyatt and Tina with lots of questions and a vision. (We had to first ask, “Is it possible?”) It was a God moment for all of us, as we explained what we were trying to accomplish. Wyatt’s artistic talent took ahold of the vision. As he sketched out a chalice, we chose colors and talked about logistics. We could feel God’s presence in our midst. Energy and excitement grew as we traveled home eager for the completed project.
Our original plan was to have the chalice completed for Maundy Thursday. We’ve learned that God’s time is always best. The chalice was not ready, and neither was Pastor Caren. God’s timing is always best! When we saw the completed creation of beauty that came out of our collective brokenness, we were in awe! The beauty created out of our collective sin and brokenness as a congregation, was so much more than we had ever envisioned.
The chalice is cobalt blue. A design, created from our collective hurts and brokenness of ash, is integrated into the cup and bass. There is a clear glass bead in the center of the stem that contains ash swirled with silver. It is even more beautiful in reality than the picture shows.
It is the hope, of the Worship Team, that you will join us in worship on Sunday, May 6th, as we celebrate Holy Communion using this beautiful chalice. Each one of us is a part of this creation. May you be reminded that God’s love is capable of taking our failures, hurts and brokenness and transforming them- and us- into living beauty that glories God.

Car Show News Greg Thill
It’s time to start your engines and prepare for the 7th Annual LUMC Get Rev’d Up All Motor Show. This year it will be on Saturday, June 16th, at the Lyndon City Park. Everyone can help by spreading the news about our show. The easiest way is to give out car show fliers to everyone you think might be interested in attending our show. As you know we have great food, music and just a great bunch of people to be around. Attending the show and thanking the participants for coming to our show lets them know we want them at our show. There are at least three other car shows within a 60-mile radius that they could go to, make them feel appreciated and we will have a great show for years to come.
Let’s Help Volunteers are needed to go to Let’s Help at 2nd & Kansas Avenue in Topeka on May 29th where we partner with our friends from the Overbrook United Methodist Church. We are needing new volunteers to help as the ones who usually go are involved with Vacation Bible School. Those who want to help at Let’s Help should leave Lyndon between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. and you would be done around 1:00 or 1:30 p.m. For those who volunteer usually plan to have their own lunch together after your done. If you are available to help with this rewarding mission, please contact Debbie Romine at 785 221-0276.
Church Office Closed The church office will be closed Monday, May 28th, in observance of Memorial Day.
Wednesday Night Events Ends for the Summer

2017 Audit It is that time of year again when we need to audit our 2017 records for the Great Plains Conference. All teams who have their separate banking accounts such as Trustees, UMW, Preschool, Memorials, MOPS, and the General Checking and Savings accounts need to have their 2017 records in to the church office no later than May 11th. This will give the audit team time to review records before our deadline of June 30th to the district office. Thank you in advance to getting your information to our audit team in a timely manner.
Preschool News Kathy Williamson, Director
It’s difficult to believe, but this is the last newsletter for this school year. We have only about 3 weeks of school left. In these last few days, we will be testing our MWF class for kindergarten readiness. We will have our graduation program at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15th. This program is for both classes as the Tuesday/Thursday class will be “moving up” to the Pre-K class. Wednesday, May 16th will be the last day of school for the Pre-K class and Thursday, May 17th will be the last day of school this year. We hope to take a walk to the city park on those last two days (if the weather permits).
We hope it goes without saying but please know how much we have enjoyed this year with your children. We love each and every one of them. Thank you for sharing them with us this year. Have a safe and fun summer! Thank you, Ms. Kathy, Grandma Dehn & Ms. Sherri

Holy Land Trip
We are finally there! After many months of Bible Study, Maps of the Holy Land, and study materials of our specific tour, we are there!
The itinerary has arrived with specifics. Motels and flights are a go. Oh, my! The place you go when the Lord calls your heart and the response is, "Yes, Lord, I'll follow." How exciting this
moment is!
Victoria Hoke, Fran and Chelsi Richmond, and myself along with 6 others from Ottawa, and 38 others from the Winfield, Kansas, South Western University will leave, May 14th for Israel. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we embark on a journey of a lifetime. This faith community will be in our thoughts and prayers as we journey. Please keep the pilgrims on the journey in your thoughts and prayers as well. We will be in Jerusalem on Pentecost Sunday. We hope to be able to transmit photos to you from Jerusalem on that day!
Blessings, Pastor Caren
