Mission Statement LYLAS is organization that seeks self-
development and self-preservation. We seek to become women bettered by the
insights of others. This does not limit us to a specific type of woman, but instead situates our past, our present and our
future with our goals to bring about effective change toward meeting those goals. Our intent is to do this with the support and sisterhood of a group of
dynamic women.
Principles Knowledge: To investigate the stories of both ourselves and
others while being open-minded and non-judgmental. To strive to learn about ourselves, our sisters, and the community at large in order to understand and respect one another at a higher level.
Refinement: To be in a continual state of self-improvement. Seeking to become a better, but not different version of yourself. Respect: To establish a non-combative environment where all thoughts and opinions are valued, while seeking to better understand both ourselves and others to acquire a deeper comprehension of our identities. Achievement: To commit to succeeding academically, personally, and emotionally by striving to excel in all these areas both as a group and as an individual Pride: To accept and celebrate one’s heritage and identity. Encouraging acceptance of the past, appreciation for the present, and hope for the future. Sisterhood: To devote oneself to supporting each other through the enactment of the above principles.
