Is transportation provided for high school students? Yes, buses are provided both to school and home for high school students.
Can a student participate in sports if they attend Lorenzo Walker Technical High School? Yes! Lorenzo Walker does not have athletic programs of their own so students participate with their zoned high school. For example, a student who is zoned for Barron Collier High School would try out and play for Barron Collier.
Does Lorenzo Walker have school sponsored clubs and/or activities for students? Yes, Lorenzo Walker has many activities and clubs for students. Examples include but are not limited to; National Honor Society, Key Club, Spanish Club, Gamer’s Club, Chess Club, Sports Club, Book Club, Art Club, Step Team, Powder Puff, Prom, school sponsored dances, etc.
Do the technical programs cost money for high school students? No, our high school students are provided the opportunity to complete one of our technical programs without paying. The average tuition that a typical adult student would pay is close to $5,000.
Can I take more than one technical area? Because of the time and competency requirements needed to successfully complete a technical area it isn’t possible to have more than one technicalprogram in the 11th and 12th grade. However, if you graduate and want to come back to Lorenzo Walker Technical College to pursue another program we would welcome the opportunity to continue to educate you.
What does a typical student day look like? For 9th and 10th grade students, they follow a traditional seven period day. When students get into the 11th and 12th grade, they follow a block schedule. One half of the day is in the technical area that the student chose and the other half of the day is in two academic classes. These classes run for one semester and then change after the winter break.
Is the academic coursework at Lorenzo Walker rigorous? Our students are challenged and the curriculum at Lorenzo Walker provides students with all of the academic course requirements for admission into four year universities. The mission of Lorenzo Walker is to create the ultimate college and career preparatory education program for all students to acquire skills for life.
Do you offer AICE programs? No, we offer the opportunity for our students to participate in career dual–enrollment through Lorenzo Walker Technical College and academic dual-enrollmentthrough Florida South Western State College (FSW). Credits obtained from FSW are free to the student and are transferable to any public, in-state college or university. The credits may also be transferred out of state, depending on the college or university. In fact, 48% of our current juniors and seniors are dual-enrolled through FSW.
