IEEE-1683-2014 Description:
• Functional design recommendations and field practices for low voltage motor control centers.
• The intent is to reduce the probability that an incident will occur when qualified persons are performing certain activities.
• The recommendations augment the existing requirements of applicable standards for motor control centers.
• It provides a framework where specifiers and users can
select MCC features and system characteristics that are applicable to their specific situation and needs.
• These recommendations complement existing workplace safety standards, site practices, and site procedures.

New Level of Arc Flash Mitigation
GE E9000 AFM units are designed to reduce exposure
to electrical shock and the potential of arcing faults
from occurring during certain activities. The retractable
stab mechanism allows for closed-door racking of the unit. This provides added
protection to electrical personnel from the dangers of an arc flash occurrence.

New Level of Arc Flash Mitigation

The use of a compact NEMA rated contactor in the AFM units will allow a minimum
of IP10 protection with optional IP20 terminal
protection in size 1 through 4 starter units. This also
provides the ability to reduce the overall footprint
required.
Other IP20 protection options are available in
each starter unit including IP20 control power
transformer fuses and pilot devices.

Reduced Density Solution Example of AFM starter units
The E9000 AFM MCC
solution is designed to optimize the physical footprint required for installation. We accomplished this by using GE’s compact C2000 NEMA rated contactor as our standard offering.
* Our traditional 300 line NEMA contactor is available as an option

Safety Awareness & Ease of Maintenance
Safety interlocks prevent opening of the unit door and racking out the stabs
when the stab is energized. The visual indicators on the front of the units
provide personnel with a clear view of the status of the stabs and isolation
shutters. This allows personnel to quickly assess the state of the equipment and
make appropriate decisions before operating the units. Visual indication will
also be available on the remote racking device.
