An anticipated opening for the FloridaHospital Center Ice complex will be delayeduntil spring 2016, largely due to a slowerthan expected wait on permitting.

Gordie Zimmermann, a partner in ZMitch, said he expects construction to re-sume in the next weeks, with a scheduledcompletion in the first quarter of 2016.

“We’re in good shape,” Zimmermannsaid.

Initially, the opening for the sports com-plex, at 3173 Cypress Ridge Blvd., had beenannounced for the fall, potentially at thesame time as the Tampa Premium Outlets.The outlet mall will open on Oct. 29.

Both facilities are off State Road 56 at theInterstate 75 interchange.

A groundbreaking for the sports com-plex took place in March. Thepre-construction work including under-ground utilities has been completed. But,the site has been inactive for several

Traffic jams caused tempers to flare andpoor weather kept balloons from launchingduring the third annual Festival of Flight atthe Tampa North Flight Center.

Scores of motorists complained via thefestival’s Facebook page about being stuckin traffic for hours.

Some said they were turned away fromthe venue because there was no place topark. Others said they gave up and voiced ir-ritation for being inconvenienced.

Numerous posts criticized event organiz-ers for failing to secure enough parking, fornot having law enforcement to direct trafficand for not letting people know earlyenough when events were cancelled.

The Friday Night Balloon Glow was held,

but balloon launches scheduled on Saturdayand Sunday mornings were cancelled be-cause of the weather.

Some activities also were able to go on,but much of the event was a washout.

Jessica Warren, festival director forFestival of Flight, said “We are reconsideringall of our options.” That includes, whetherto stage the event again.

“Everybody says it was disorganized,”Warren said, but months of hard work andplanning went into the event.

Parking was arranged for 20 acres onCompark 75, which is next to Tampa NorthFlight Center. Warren and her husbandmowed the field to prepare it for parking.

Fifty-six volunteers were also secured tohelp with parking, she said.

There’s a new adult day care center avail-able for caregivers who need someone towatch their loved one while they’re work-ing, running errands or merely taking abreak from their caregiving duties.

CARES Adult Day Care at NorthlakeCommunity Center, 2640 N. Lakeview Drivein Tampa, opened in July in an updatedrecreational center.

The adult day care center provides carefor those ages 18 and older afflicted byAlzheimer’s or dementia, or who have otherspecial needs.

The goal is provide the help that care-givers need and to provide socialization forthose coming to the day care, said BrittanyStowers, center manager.

The center is open Monday throughFriday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Some clients come daily and stay for theentire day. Others may come one or twomornings a week, or every other week,Stowers said. Those arrangements are madeindividually.

Program costs vary, based on how manyhours of service a client receives and on in-dividual financial situations, Stowers said.She said that will be discussed whenarrangements are made for the care.

Regardless of the amount of time thatclients spend in the center, the goal is tomake it an inviting and stimulating place forthem, Stowers said.

Fan are always excited when aprofessional sports team gearsup for another season. There’sexcitement, optimism, and a de-

sire to be part of the action. Fans can’t waitfor the games to start.

I’m not talking about the Tampa BayBuccaneers this time. Don’t get me wrong.This is definitely a football town, and fanshave been waiting months to see the Bucsback in action. But their season started lastweekend.

No, I’m talking about the Tampa BayLightning. We’re a football town, but we’re ahockey town, too.

(Technically, Detroit is known as“Hockeytown” due to its Red Wings and theteam’s storied and successful history in theNational Hockey League. But let’s be honest:Our city is nicer, it has better weather, andwe have the better team right now. So we’realso a hockey town).

Anyway, the Lightning’s season starts inless than a month, with preseason just afew days away. To celebrate, the team isholding its annual Fan Fest on Sept. 20 forticket-holders, well-wishers and anyonewho supports the Bolts. And it’s free, whichis why you’re seeing it here in On theCheap.

You might wonder why the hockey sea-son is starting when it feels like they just

stopped playing. That’s because theLightning kept winning through the play-offs. Instead of heading home when theregular season ended in April, they played allthe way until the middle of June, when theylost in the Stanley Cup Finals. Fans were

proud of how they played, but they’re alsohungry to see another stellar season. So youcan expect a good turnout at Fan Fest.

The Lightning hasn’t released all the de-tails for the event yet, but we know what toexpect based on previous events.

It will be held at the team’s home atAmalie Arena, 401 Channelside Drive inTampa beginning at 11 a.m.

Thousands of fans attended last year’sFan Fest, and it should be the same againthis year, if not bigger.

We do know that there will be threeplayer scrimmages and twoautograph/photo sessions. Fans can alsotake photos with the Prince of Wales tro-phy, which is given to the EasternConference champions each year. There’s al-ways a Kids’ Zone, with games, facepainting, balloon animals and other activi-ties. Throw in a used equipment sale andexecutive and player interviews, and youhave everything a fan could want except anactual game. It’s a great chance to interactwith other fans, get an early look at theteam in action and prepare for what shouldbe another successful season.

As with most professional sports teams,

seeing the Lightning during the season isn’tcheap. Tickets, parking and concessions alladd up fast, and that’s if you can even get aticket in the first place.

But Fan Fest is free, parking is discounted(it was $5 last year), and concessions arecheaper, as well. There will be food trucksparked outside, too.

If you support the Lightning, it’s a funway to kick off the new season. And sinceFan Fest is free and open to the public, youcan show your support whether you’re aseason ticket holder or have never been to agame.

There is one thing though: You have tohave a ticket to get in.

To get your ticket, go toLightning.NHL.com and click on “LightningLaunch Weekend.” You can get tickets forFan Fest and also find out about theLightning Live event. That’s on Friday, Sept.18 outside the arena, and will include livemusic and giveaways.

So enjoy a free weekend of fun, get readyfor the regular season and put your walleton ice. Get it? Ice?

The best use for a proposed 100-acreWiregrass Sports Park is an indoor, multi-usecomplex, according to a study done byChicago-based Johnson Consulting Co.

A few outdoor playing fields should bebuilt, the consultants say, but they concludethat indoor sports such as basketball, vol-leyball, wrestling, cheerleading and martialarts are the most profitable wave of the fu-ture.

The study cites other municipalities withsuccess in similar ventures includingGatlinburg, Tennessee; Round Rock, Texas;and Foley, Alabama.

Indoor facilities operate year-round, andsuccessful ones typically are unique to theirgeographic area, the study found.

Pasco County commissioners will dis-cuss the study, and the county’s options fordeveloping the parkland, at their Sept. 22meeting.

The land for the park is part of morethan 200 acres donated to the county bythe Porter family, and is located near TheShops at Wiregrass.

Several Pasco County commissioners re-ported at their Sept. 8 meeting that J.D.Porter has raised questions about the study.There are concerns, they said, about futureresidential development on Wiregrass Ranchproperty and the need for open space fornew residents.

“I think they were counting on this fieldbeing available,” said Pasco CountyCommissioner Ted Schrader.

J.D. Porter could not be reached for com-ment.

“I don’t think they (the Porter family)feel like they are in the loop,” said PascoCounty Commissioner Mike Moore. “I thinkpeople are really anxious to see what’sgoing to happen.”

Pasco County Administrator MicheleBaker said the study, as well as details on thehistory of the parkland, is part of the up-

coming discussion.Plans to put the study on the commis-

sioners’ meeting agenda were delayed bythe county’s flooding crisis.

“We never intended this to be somethingyou would rubber stamp,” she said. “There isa conversation that needs to occur.”

Commissioners hired JohnsonConsulting Co., in March, to complete a$35,000 feasibility study on the best use ofthe land and how to achieve the county’sgoals of building a sports tourism facility.

One proposed venture already has failed.Pasco Sports, a partnership between

James Talton and former major league base-ball player Gary Sheffield, had proposed ayouth baseball camp, with 20 ball fields anddormitories on site.

They wanted the county to commit be-tween $11 million and $14 million intourism dollars. But Talton and Sheffield let aDecember 2014 deadline pass without fol-lowing through on a $3 million pledge tothe project.

And, it turns out that baseball isn’t a win-ning game for Pasco, according to theconsultants’ study.

That kind of development would have tocompete with a $27 million sports complexin Seminole County. Plans there are for 15fields for baseball, softball, soccer andlacrosse.

“Also, the Florida marketplace is becom-ing saturated with outdoor complexes,especially for baseball,” the study found.

Instead, Johnson Consulting proposes anindoor facility between 85,000 square feetand 100,000 square feet, with room for ex-pansion.

They envision between six and eightbasketball courts that would convert to asmany as 16 volleyball courts. There alsowould be a seating area for up to 750 spec-tators, locker rooms, and between four andsix multipurpose rooms.

A health care partnership with an areahospital or health care provider also is rec-ommended.

A decision is months away.But much is at stake for whichever county

secures the favor of the Florida Departmentof Transportation in choosing a 20-mile routefor the Coast to Coast (C2C) Connector Trail.

State highway officials anticipate com-pleting a feasibility study in June 2016 on anorthern route through Hernando andSumter County or a southern route throughPasco and Sumter County.

Sumter County is the only sure winner inthe construction of a major segment of theplanned 275-mile trail that will link thestate’s east and west coasts.

Florida DOT representatives from District5 presented a slide show on the study and theroutes during a Sept. 10 board member of thePasco Metropolitan Planning Organization.

About 35 people attended the meetingincluding area residents, elected officialsand FDOT representatives from District 7and District 5.

For Pasco MPO members, it was a chanceto make the case for the southern route, butalso to push for construction of a loop thatwould be created by building both routes.

Except as a future project, however,FDOT officials didn’t encourage hope forthe loop.

“That can be a suggestion. It’s somethingyou need to work on with Sumter County andwhat their visions are on the Coast to CoastConnector (Trail),” said Lee Royal, governmentliaison for FDOT in District 7. “That would bea decision through the planning process.”

Pasco MPO Chairman Lance Smith said aloop is the type of trail ride that bicyclistsenjoy, and this one would provide a roundtrip of nearly 45 miles. “You look for a loopmore than an up and back (ride),” said Smith,who also serves on Zephyrhills City Council.

The northern route begins in Hernando,then heads southeast through Sumter, link-ing the cities of Center Hill and Websterbefore connecting with the WithlacoocheeState Trail.

The southern route jogs through north-east Pasco, parallels State Road 50, andmoves into the Withlacoochee Forest on itsway to trails end in eastern Sumter.

“That’s a real life line for us to have thesouthern route,” said Dade City Mayor CamilleHernandez. She serves on the Pasco MPO.

Dade City and northeast Pasco are drawsfor hundreds of bicyclists who come weekly toenjoy the challenges of the area’s rolling hills.

“Our area is a mecca for cyclists,” saidJosh Thornton. He is a former professionalcyclist who lives in Dade City. “This is a bigthing to have cyclists come to the area andsupport local businesses.”

He supports the southern route but headded, “It’s a great idea to have a loop.”

Pasco officials anticipate the construc-tion of several trails that will link Pasco andPinellas County, and eventually hook upwith Sun Coast Trail and Hernando. Work isunderway on U.S. 301 on a multi-use trailthat in future will link with the Hardy Trail,in Dade City.

The trail system and the bicycling com-munity are part of Dade City’s identity,Hernandez said.

“We’re really working very, very hard toconnect what we have here,” she said.

But the town of Webster is just as con-vinced that the trail can be its economiclifeline. Mayor Kelly Williams attended themeeting to make her city’s case.

She secured a grant for Webster to payfor an analysis of the economic impact of

the trail on Webster’s local economy.Portions of the analysis included studies of

trails built in other areas, including WinterGarden in Orange County. The Orange CountyTrail study relied on data provided by the EastCentral Florida Regional Planning Council.

The report noted that the southern routewould produce nearly 33,000 annual usertrips compared to nearly 29,000 on thenorthern route. However, more economicopportunities would be available, and moremoney generated along the northern route,according to the study.

The analysis focused on a 75-mile radiusof Webster, which the study found would bea significant destination point for people fol-lowing the Scenic Sumter Heritage Byway.

Local trail users on the southern routewould spend about $9 per person whilenorthern route users would spend morethan $13. Annual spending on both routeswould exceed $300,000 but the northernroute would come out ahead by about$80,000, the study found.

The spending opportunities includedrestaurants, food and beverages, rental fees,guide maps/books and lodging.

Webster would see between $393,000and nearly $500,000 pumped into the localeconomy, according to the study.

“It would be an unbelievable economicboon to Webster, having the trail go throughthere,” said Williams. “I will continue to fightfor my city as I know you will for yours.”

One Webster resident, Thomas Parsons,told Pasco MPO members he doesn’t sup-port either route. The best option, he said,would be for the trail to follow State Road50 where the state already has rights of way.

The northern route crosses his driveway,Parsons said. And though he is not a hunter,Parsons said, people who use dogs to aidtheir hunting worry about lack of access totheir hunting areas. “I think this is anotherattack on their rights,” he said.

Several Pasco MPO members took FDOTto task for what they saw as a snub to Pascoin the kick-off meeting for the feasibilitystudy. About 120 people attended the meet-ing near Webster but MPO members saidprior notification was insufficient.

Not surprisingly, most who attendedwere from Sumter and they favored thenorthern route, said Pasco County ChairmanTed Schrader.

In addition, members were upset thatFDOT had no plans to schedule upcomingmeetings in Pasco.

Royal said as many as 8,500 mailingswere sent to people within 300 feet of theproposed corridors. Local governments alsowere notified, she said.

By the end of the meeting, FDOT offi-cials agreed to hold one workshop in Pasco.

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is celebrating ahappier Halloween this year.

This year, the emphasis will be on fun,not fear, in an event known as ZooBooKIDS.

This Halloween celebration features awhimsical take on Halloween. It is beingpresented on select days in October.

ZooBoo KIDS is designed for childrenages 11 and under, and it will be a daytimeHalloween celebration.

“Fright-free” festivities will start at 1 p.m.,with extended zoo hours until 7 p.m., onevent days.

Activities willinclude trick-or-treat stations, acrazy corn maze,jeepers creepersanimal encoun-ters, kookycharacter ap-pearances, ascaredy cat’s fun

house, a fun fortune teller, monster mashgroovy tunes and more.

Craig Laporte has lived in PascoCounty since graduating from theUniversity of Florida in 1975 and movingto his parents’ home in NewPort Richey to look for work.

And, as Craig tells thestory, he “fell into an opportu-nity” with the Pasco CountySheriff ’s Office that resultedin becoming a deputy. For thenext four years, he workedmostly nights patrolling thewestern half of the county.

Four years later, when theSheriff ’s office needed a pilot to fly itshelicopter, Craig was a perfect candidatebecause, in college, he was in the U.S.Air Force Reserves. Craig flew theSheriff ’s helicopter for the next three anda half years, while also attending StetsonUniversity College of Law, graduating in1983.

Clients can sit on recliners indoors andon picnic benches on the back porch.There’s an arts and crafts room, too.

“Since it is not a residential facility, weknow they really don’t need to be here ifthey don’t want to,” Stowers said. “They cantell their family members, ‘I don’t like it. It’sboring.’ ”

Knowing that clients have a choice ismotivating to the center’s staff to be sure tofind ways to engage the clients, and to en-

courage them to interact with each other,she said.

“It really pushes us to find activities thatthey would really like to do, so they enjoycoming back every day,” she said.

“I haven’t heard one person say ‘I’mbored’ yet,” said Phyllis Bross, a CARES boardmember, who was at the center one recentmorning.

The center gives the clients a place tomeet new friends, both Stowers and Brosssaid.

They won’t become isolated, Bross said,noting that can easily happen if a persondoesn’t get out to meet new people.

Besides letting the community knowabout the available service, the staff wantsto invite anyone who is interested in volun-teering to step forward.

“Volunteers are so helpful,” Stowers said.She’s looking for people who have special

talents or hobbies, to help make the activi-ties more engaging.

She’s also looking for people who don’tmind taking on some chores.

She could use people who want to helpin the kitchen, or do clerical work, or merelyprovide companionship for clients by talk-ing or listening to them.

The center has the capacity for 100clients. So far, it has 16. Stowers expects thenumber to increase, as people becomeaware of the service.

The center is one of six in Pasco andHillsborough counties. The two locations inPasco County are in New Port Richey andDade City.

CARES receives support fromHillsborough and Pasco counties, the AreaAgency on Aging, the Florida Departmentof Elder Affairs, the United Way of PascoCounty, and Senior Connection CenterInc.

ing rights for the complex, is partneringwith Z Mitch on the project. The facility’sname – Florida Hospital Center Ice - was an-nounced in May.

Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel will offersports performance and injury preventionprograms, along with orthopedic and outpa-tient rehabilitation services.

There will be four full-size ice rinks, and amini-rink for ice hockey and figure skating.But the facility will be multipurpose for bas-ketball and other sports, including soccer andlacrosse. Curling also is an anticipated sport.

A sports-themed family-style restaurantwill be opened. Non-sports activities, suchas dog shows and graduation ceremonies,are likely as well.

The sports complex is expected to be a

venue that will host regional and even inter-national youth hockey leagues, and globalhockey tournaments.

Zimmermann said a hockey day at thesite might be held by the end of the year.And, he said figure skating registration couldtake place in February.

Along with the permitting, Zimmermannsaid, “We’re moving ahead in proper se-quence.”

But festivalgoers began showing up fourhours before the event on Friday afternoonand volunteers had not arrived to directparking.

To make matters worse, some people dis-regarded directions by volunteers andparked in areas and wound up blocking offareas that were intended for additional park-ing, Warren said.

Some Facebook posts recommendedthat a remote parking arrangement be madewith shuttles to ferry people to the festivalfor a fee.

Warren said that was done, with fiveshuttle buses and three golf carts givingpeople rides from the adjacent Compark 75parking area to the venue.

She said the Pasco County Sheriff’sOffice came to help with parking and offi-cers were hired to help for the rest of theevent.

“We knew the popularity had grown,”Warren said. But she said, organizers did notexpect so many people to show up at thesame time.

Despite the criticism, there were somepositive Facebook posts, particularly aboutthe beauty of the balloon glow.

Warren did not see the balloon glow.“ I was directing traffic,” she said.

SUNLAKE TOPS ZEPHYRHILLS IN EARLY-SEASON CLASH

Two playoff teams from last year facedoff on Sept. 4, and the game lived up to thehype. In the end, the Sunlake Seahawksedged past the Zephyrhills Bulldogs, 44-41.While Zephyrhills might be disappointed tocome up short in a high-scoring affair, bothteams have reasons to feel good about theirseason and their future. The Bulldogs’ juniorrunning back, Antwione Sims, scored fourtouchdowns in the contest with around 300yards on the ground, while junior Justin Hallpaced the Seahawks with nearly 250 pass-ing yards and three touchdown passes.

Sunlake not only got the best of theBulldogs to earn the win this year, theyavenged a 22-7 loss to Zephyrhills last sea-son.

The Wesley Chapel Wildcats didn’t winany varsity games in 2013.

They won just two last season and they’vestarted this year with a couple of losses.

But Tico Hernandez, the team’s headcoach, said you’re missing the point if youjudge the team based only on its record.

“We talk about ‘building men for others.’That’s our slogan. These guys are going tobe husbands and daddys and teachers andjournalists and preachers in the communi-ty,” Hernandez said. “Here’s a greatopportunity for us to instill our values onwhat we think a young man should be likein our society.”

The coach is taking advantage of that op-portunity by emphasizing the acronymR.A.I.S.E. (respect, accountability, integrity,self control and excellence) in what playersdo on and off the field. That means focusingon class work, exhibiting mature behaviorand being of service to others.

To that end, a number of his players willbe going to elementary schools aroundWesley Chapel to mentor and read.

And Hernandez said his door is alwaysopen if parents want to talk to him about is-sues with any of his athletes off the field.

Hernandez is looking for progress on thefield, too.

Even though the win column has been lessactive than he’d like, there are still enoughpositives to keep the coach optimistic.

A 14-7 loss to Land O’ Lakes High Schoolduring the opening week of the season wasdisappointing, but also a sign of progresssince it was so close, Hernandez said.

They didn’t win, but the fact that the

Wildcats had a chance to tie or take the leadwith a minute left in the game againsta highly respected opponent demonstratesthat they’re getting closer to where theywant to be.

The coach also is happy with the team’sfuture prospects.

Junior Jacob Thomas had to sit out a yearafter transferring from Land O’ Lakes, butnow the quarterback is ready to lead theteam. And Hernandez thinks he has what ittakes to keep playing after he graduates.

“With his ability and what he does in theclassroom, he’s going have a chance to playon Saturdays, and we’re trying to help himget to that level,” Hernandez said.

As a quarterback, Thomas would love tobe airing it out and taking off for extra yardsand making highlight reels every drive. Buthe’s smart enough to know that winningfootball games isn’t about being flashy, butworking within the team’s abilities and tak-ing advantage of opportunities when theyarise on the field.

“It’s really just adjusting to what the de-fense is giving us,” Thomas said. “If they’regiving us the short routes, then we takethem. If they’re giving us the deep routes,then we take that. If they’re giving us therun game, then we take the run game.”

Now that he’s finally playing for theWildcats, the 6-foot-4, 183-pound quarter-

back will also be a leader on the field.Watching his team lose close games last

year and not being able to help was tough,he said.

Long practices and grueling drills are achallenge, but Thomas wouldn’t have it anyother way.

“I love coming out here every single dayafter school. We practice for three hours aday. It’s fun,” Thomas said. “It’s part of thefootball life.”

The football life is enjoyable forHernandez as well. He has a young team —out of 75 players in the program, they’ll onlylose about nine players to graduation afterthe season — and they’re buying into hissystem.

The coach works hard and theplayers work hard, and everyone believesthat the results will be seen on the score-board in due time.

Until then, they’ll stay focused on and offthe field, and enjoy the process of gettingbetter week-by-week.

“I love these guys. I love this school, andthe community,” Hernandez said. “I’m luckyevery day to be here.”

Sept. 11, 2001 is a day people re-member for the ordinarydetails of life — and then theshattering horror of two hi-jacked planes flying into the

World Trade Center in New York.Hijacked planes also struck the Pentagon

building, and crashed into a field inShanksville, Pennsylvania.

Those acts of terror cost 2,606 peopletheir lives in the Twin Towers. Another 246died in the four planes, including 19 terror-ists. And 125 people died at the Pentagon.

On the 14th anniversary of 9/11, com-munities across the nation held thousandsof memorial services to honor the victimswho died — including first responders, whorisked and lost their lives to save others.

About 50 people gathered at ZephyrPark in Zephyrhills for a solemn ceremony— “We Remember: 9/11 Memorial Service.”The Marine Corps League, Sgt. Maj. MichaelCurtin, Detachment 1124 sponsored theevent.

Curtin was a first responder with theNew York City Police Department who diedwhile saving lives at the World Trade Center.

“An attack of this magnitude, it calls forheroes, doesn’t it?” said Zephyrhills MayorGene Whitfield. “It calls for people to stepup and go in where no else wants to go.These folks that went in these towers wereheroes.”

Whitfield recalled that 9/11 was notCurtin’s first encounter with terrorism. In1993, Curtin was with the NYPD’s first re-sponse team at the first World Trade Centerbombing.

Two years later, Curtin went with a teamof New York police officers to Oklahoma

after Timothy McVeigh’s bomb ex-ploded at the Alfred P. MurrahFederal Building.

“His history of service has said itall,” Whitfield said.

After a moment of silence, anhonor guard fired a 21-gun salute,and 82-year-old Jerry Morel blewtaps on the bugle.

Everyone can recall memories ofa day that began with the steadythrum of normalcy.

Zephyrhills’ resident MeaghanSammons drove to a local home im-provement store to buy roof nailsrequested by her job supervisor.

When she got back, everyone wasgathered around a television. Herfirst thoughts were of her father whodrove a delivery truck near the WorldTrade Center.

“I tried to call him and I couldn’tget him,” she said. “You are numb. Itdidn’t hit right away, until you sawthe second building coming downand the aftermath.”

She finally reached her fatherwho had left the area before the at-tack.

Sammons brought her 11-year-old sonHeath to the memorial service. He wore hisBoy Scout uniform.

She wanted to honor the day and share ina moment of unity. And she said, “If history isnot taught to younger generations, it will re-peat itself. I hope this never repeats itself.”

State Rep. Danny Burgess was in the 10thgrade on 9/11.

“This is very real. This is very raw,” hesaid.

But the day after, Sept. 12, also should beremembered, especially the moment whenPresident George W. Bush called for unity as

he stood on a mound of rubble at the TwinTowers, he said.

“Let’s remember that in the midst of allthis, we all united. That’s what’s best aboutthe American spirit,” Burgess said. “We sawso much love and compassion…It shouldn’ttake such tragedy to pull us together as acountry.”

World War II veteran Sal DiMartino, 92,served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines.He got a call from his daughter in Californiaon 9/11, telling him to turn on his televi-sion.

People need to bring back the spirit thatbrought the nation together in World War II,

he said. “That was when you were dedicatedto your fellow man.”

Rod Rehrig Sr., recalls being at work athis real estate office when he saw theevents unfold, also on television.

“It was really sad,” said Rehrig, who is thecommandant for Detachment #1124 of theMarine Corps League. “All those lives wast-ed.”

But the memorial service can offer sol-ace, he said.

“I think we have a little more peace ofmind. We’re doing something out of respectfor those who died. It strengthens people,”Rehrig said.

NEW HOME DESIGNPulte Homes unveiled a new three-bed-

room Rosemont floor plan at Country Walk,off Meadow Pointe Boulevard, south of StateRoad 54 in Wesley Chapel, according to anews release from Larry VershelCommunications. The plan offers an openspace design, but according to Sean Strickler,president of Pulte Group-West FloridaDivision, it has a twist: a smaller, smarteropen space with plenty of family privacy.

A massive family living area includes akitchen with island option that serves as agreat room, dining nook and patio. Two addi-tional bedrooms and a bath are near thefront of the house, which has more than1,600 square feet and a two-car garage.

Pulte is building 32 new three- and four-bedroom homes at Country Walk, ranging insize from more than 1,600 square feet tonearly 2,500 square feet. Country Walkhomes are priced from $219,990.

Model homesThe Texas-based real estate firm, Hines,

recently announced the groundbreakingby Ashton Woods and David Weekley, ofmodel homes at Asturia, a master-plannedcommunity on State Road 54, west ofSuncoast Parkway. Asturia will build threemodel homes; David Weekly will buildfour model homes. According to a newsrelease from Hines, the homebuilders willprovide homes with multiple styles of de-sign that will give homebuyers differentpricing options.

Ashton Woods’ homes will includefloor plans ranging from 1,962 square feetto more than 2,400 square feet. Its threemodel homes are scheduled to open inthe fall.

David Weekley will feature homesfrom the builder’s Cottage, Garden, LakeManor and Park Series. The first modelhome is scheduled for completion byNovember, with construction on the re-maining three model homes slated tobegin this fall.

A community center in Asturia also isunder construction and will open in2016.

The mixed-use, master-planned com-munity will feature parks, trails,playgrounds, picnic areas, a fitness centerand a resort-style swimming pool. Hinescurrently is marketing the community todevelopers, retailers and others for shops,offices and multifamily sites.
