Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back! I hope you have had a great summer. We have had an excellent week and it has been a pleasure to welcome our new Year 7 students.
We are delighted with our first ever set of results. 89% of students achieved a grade 9-4 in English and 82% in mathematics. 32% of our students achieved the EBacc with strong passes of 9-5. There were many 9 grades in the new reformed English Literature, English Language and mathematics qualifications. Congratulations go to Hannah Martin for achieving three 9 grades. This puts her in an exclusive club of only 2000 students and is a wonderful achievement.
Results day was fantastic! We have included a photo special from the day. It was a delight to see so many happy faces and quite a lot of tears of joy. A special thank you to all the parents of Year 11 who showed faith in the school. I wish our Year 11 leavers all the best in the next stage of their education and I hope they leave with fond memories of their time at the school.
Our new Year 7 students have settled in very well and I have enjoyed asking them which are their favourite lessons and what they have enjoyed about their first week. It is clear that the Summer School has helped the students familiarise themselves with the school. I would like to thank Miss Kean and Miss Matthews and the rest of the Summer School team for delivering a fantastic week.
I am looking forward to pre-season rugby training tomorrow morning. Parents are very welcome to attend and coffee and bacon butties are available. In this issue, you will see the fixture list for the season. There are some exciting games ahead! The extra-curricular timetable is starting to fill up with many oppurtunities. I look forward to our first cross-crountry run on Wednesday.
Finally, we have produced a new school video for prospective parents and students. If you would like to see the video, please click here.
Have a great weekend.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
It has been great to see some very keen readers amongst our new Year 7 students and books have been flying off the shelves in The Learning Hub. One student has been making his way through the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series by Rick Riordan with impressive speed.
The Lightning Thief is the first book in this fantasy-adven-ture series. If you’re interested in Greek mythology then this is the book for you. Percy Jackson is a 12 year old boy with dyslexia and ADHD who discovers he is a demigod, the son of a human and a Greek God. You follow Percy on his quest to save the world from a war between the Olympian gods.
Why not read about Percy’s escapades alongside your own, either as a new student embarking on an adventure into your new school, or one of our continuing students with exciting challenges ahead.
thought OF THE WEEK
“Forewarned, forearmed; to be prepared is half the victory”
Miguel de Cervantes
What do you think this quote means? Can you learn anything from this quote?
Why is this message important at the start of a new school year?
Miguel de Cervantes September 1547 (assumed) – 22 April 1616) was a Spanish writer who is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world’s pre-eminent novelists.
His major work, Don Quixote, is considered the first modern novel, a classic of Western literature, and is regarded among the best works of fiction ever written. His influence on the Spanish language has been so great that the language is often called la lengua de Cervantes (“the language of Cervantes”). He has also been dubbed El príncipe de los ingenios (“The Prince of Wits”).
word OF THE WEEK

Year 7’s First WeekYear 7 students have successfully completed their first week with smiles all round.
Student AchievementWell done to Zak Taylor who recently got his ballroom exam results with Honours. He achieved 95% in the Samba and 96% in his Foxtrot. He has one more competition on Sunday in Cambridge before the Grand International Finals, held in the Winter Garden Ballroom in Blackpool November 4th 2017. He has already secured a place in the finals.
During the summer holidays Brandon Hickman went to Finland and competed in the Delfin Basketball Tournament. There were over 200 teams with 400 players competing from the UK and Europe over this 3 day event. Brandon was competing in the U16's and was always in the starting 5. They won every single game easily. They were in the final on 30th July. This was a hard fought game, but Brandon's team won Gold with a final score of 56 - 48. Brandon was the top scorer of 3 point shots in the whole tournament. The Delfin Tournament produced a list of the 130 top scorers over the 3 days of competitionand Brandon was 18th on that list.
Congratulations!
