Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to our final newsletter of this half-term. It has been a very busy but successful half-term.

I would like to thank Year 9 parents and carers for making the time to come to our Options Evening. It was an incredibly successful event. Please remember the deadline for handing in the form is Friday 9th March. You are also very welcome to make an appointment to meet staff who will help you and your child make an informed choice. As always, it was a superb event with some fantastic performances, especially by Elsie who came 3rd overall in her year group, despite the girls’ race starting 5 minutes later! Well done to Tedder House who won overall.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

thought OF THE WEEK

word OF THE WEEK

‘demographic’adjective

relating to the structure of populations

A stereotype may be negative or positive, but even positive

stereotypes present two problems: They are clichés, and they present a human being as far more simple and

uniform than any human being.

Nancy Kress

What is a stereotype?

What can you do in your life to break down stereotypes?

Nancy Anne Kress (born January 20, 1948) is an American science fiction writer. She began writing in 1976 but has achieved her greatest notice since the publication of her Hugo and Nebula-winning 1991 novella Beggars in Spain, which she later expanded into a novel with the same title. She has also won

the Nebula Award for Best Novella in 2013 for After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall, and in 2015

for Yesterday’s Kin.

As it’s Children’s Mental Health week this week, our book of the week aptly focuses on mental health.

Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne tackles the stigmas surrounding mental health. It is a story about a girl called Evie, who only wants to be normal like everyone else. Evie looks ok on the outside, but what is going on within? This book looks at the secrets we can hide, even from those who know us best. It gives a real and moving insight into what it means to be young, confused and isolated. There is a lot to take away from this powerful novel, a greater understanding about mental health being just one reason to read this fantastic book.

National Story Telling WeekLast week’s story-telling session was so successful and we were so enthralled with everyone’s stories that we couldn’t get through them. So of course we had to have another session. We had lots of fantastic stories that were very enthusiastically told.

Sports HighlightsCross CountryThe tradition of house cross country continues. All year groups in Key Stage 3 ran their event over Monday and Tuesday in some true cross country conditions. Students either experienced sunshine on the Monday or snow on Tuesday! All students were excellent and got in to the spirit of the first house games.
