Message from the Exalted Ruler:
Gratitude makes sense of our
past, brings peace for today, and
creates a vision for tomorrow.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
With Thanksgiving approaching, it is over
whelming to see our members embracing and supporting all
the community fund raisers under way. The Thanksgiving Din-
ner Drive has already raised over $1300 in cash donations to
support this Community Service Project. Over 500 food items
also have been collected! We still need about 1000 more food
items. Please, grab a bag in the Lobby. Also, the Cancer
events have been so very successful and the Veteran’s are on
track to have a very profitable fundraiser on November 11th–
Veteran’s Day! The Scholarship Committee’s ticket sales for a
dinner and silent auction on the 13th of November, are also
going well.
It’s a time for all of us to be grateful for where we are in life
and that we have the ability to help those less fortunate and
give back to our community. This community support is not
new– it’s something this Lodge has been doing for almost 25
years.
So many members donate their time and energy to make this
Lodge successful, without any personal gain or recognition,
and I am very grateful for their help. Look thru the newsletter,
read the committee reports, see the event photos– these are
just some of our members making the commitment to the motto
– Elks Care~ Elks Share.
This past month was “Lodge Cleanup Month”. We took ad-
vantage of a free shredding event sponsored by Georgetown
County and “cleaned out” 28 boxes of outdated material.
Thank you Treasurer Steve, who moved all the boxes down-
stairs and with Secretary Dave’s help sorted out all the paper
trails. Thanks, also to Ron Mahon, Pat Riordan, Lee Marin,
Sandy Sheedy, and Jack Foster for carting the boxes to the
shredding site.
New members have been volunteering in the kitchen to help
with lunch and special events. If you can, consider volunteering
– you’ll meet new friends and help your Lodge.
Fraternally, Sandy Foster, Exalted Ruler

NOVEMBER 2021 L.O.T.E. Report Hello Ladies of the Elks,
Save the date!!! Our Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, February 24

More info after the first of the year. Our upcoming projects also include provid-ing Thanksgiving baskets for 8 families. They will be delivered the Monday before Thanksgiving. Our Christmas project is yet to be determined. Our Yard Sale is tentatively scheduled for April 30
th.
Welcome to a new member, Joan Roach, installed at our October meeting. Join us at the Elks Lodge for dinner on Thursday, Nov. 4
th. The L.O.T.E. will be selling their delicious cakes/
pies. This is a monthly fundraiser which brings in money for our charities. Hope to see you there. Next month’s LOTE Luncheon will be Wednesday, November 3
rd at P.F. Changs at 12:00. Text or call Bonnie
at 757-621-6130 or email at [email protected] Our December luncheon will be on December 8 at the TPC Clubhouse at 12:00. Next LOTE meeting is sched-uled for November 11

THANKSGIVING DRIVE UPDATE AS OF 11/01/21-T
Thank you to our Wednesday & Friday Golfers who have donated over $700 to purchase the
85 turkeys needed. Also, our members have been more than generous with donations also—to date
$600 has been received. With the predicted shortage of turkeys, there is no guarantee of pricing for the
turkeys. We are fortunate that Walmart has guaranteed the “birds” for our baskets.
The shopping bags, with designated items to be purchased to fill baskets, are available in the Lodge entry. To
date we have received over 500 items to fill the baskets. That’s a little over 1/4 of the way to our goal. Thanks to all
that have shopped and returned the bags. Bless all of you for your support!
The families are selected by 3 organizations- The Georgetown School District selects 2 needy families from
each of their 25 schools. We also get families from the Georgetown Special Needs Commission and from the local ECHO
chapter which services veterans. Anyone willing to inventory and/ or help on Monday November 22nd to pack the bas-
kets, please email the ER at [email protected].

House Committee Report: It’s been a busy month for us and for the 1st time this year we served over 100 Thursday
Night Dinners on October 21st. Thanks for all the hard work kitchen crew! Also for Octoberfest we served over 100 din-
ners and the event was a great success with Latitude entertaining. Lunches have been steady with Wednesday & Thurs-
day averaging about 20 and Friday about 35. We could sure use more help in the kitchen. If your available contact me at
[email protected] to volunteer or stop in at the Lodge during lunch or dinner.
Check out the events in the calendar– November 13th the Scholarship Committee is hosting a dinner/dance with the kitch-
en serving Chicken Cordon Bleu. Also, Wing Night, Trivia, Music Bingo and a Pizza Party are all planned. Thanksgiving
Day the Lodge will be CLOSED. Hope to see you at the Lodge! Stan Data, House Committee Chairman
Strike Out Breast Cancer — Bowling Fundraiser
Bowling Ball Winner
Cancer Committee Report ..
On Sunday October 24th, the Elks Cancer Committee hosted a bowling fundraiser titled: “Strike Out Breast Cancer”. The
event was planned by our committee to increase awareness of Breast Cancer in our local community and raise funds for the Tidelands Health Breast Care Fund. As a not-for-profit health system, Tidelands Health promotes breast care for all women, regardless of economic status. We had 57 people participate in the event at Surfside Bowling Center, surpassing our goals. As a result of this event, the committee will be donating $1,700 to the Tidelands Health Breast Care Fund. The fund provides screening mammograms for low-income women to help keep our community healthy. This fun day would not have been possible without the generosity of Surfside Bowling Center and the Pro Shop. Once again, Thank You to all the participants for donating to our local community fundraiser. The Fall candy sale program, “Take a Bite out of Cancer” will continue for a limited time. Please purchase the
candy bars for a donation of $5. Our October bake sale during Thursday night’s Rib dinner was a delicious success, as
usual. Thanks to Wanda and Bob Bruce, Bev Rosenquist, Lucy Chewens, Carol Zuck, Colleen Riehl for providing baked
goodies and their time to support the sale.
Currently we are in the planning stages for our Dinner Dance, which will take place on January 22, 2022! Watch for future announcements. We continue to be grateful for your generous support of the Cancer Committee. Our committee is raising money through a variety of events throughout the year to support local people in our community who are coping with a cancer diagnosis.
Barb Sproge, Cancer Committee Chair
Scholarship Committee Report—November 13th is our dinner/dance and silent auction to provide local high
school seniors with college scholarships. Entertainment for the evening will be Surf & Sand. Tickets are $15 and are avail-
able at the Lodge. Select your table now! Anyone wishing to donate an item for the silent auction
please email [email protected]. The committee would also like to thank Pawleys Island Bakery
which supplies baked goods for our bake sale held every 2nd Thursday evening at the Lodge.
