HOUSE HOUSE BUILDING 101BUILDING 101
Luke 6:46-49Luke 6:46-49
46 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? 47 As for those who come to me and hear my words and put them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But those who hear my words and do not put them into practice are like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."
Luke 6:46-49 (TNIV)
46-47 "Why are you so polite with me, always saying 'Yes, sir,' and 'That's right, sir,' but never doing a thing I tell you? These words I speak to you are not mere additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundation words, words to build a life on.
48-49 "If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don't work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss."
Luke 6:43-45 (Message Translation)

Faith without works? How’s that for a contradiction!
“Lord” sounds best to Jesus when spoken by a person with dirty hands.

ANOTHER STORY DEALING WITH CONTRASTS
Good fruit, Bad fruit
Remember the two guys… a speck of dust in one eye, a fence post in another
Loving your friends and loving your enemies
Here’s a tale of building on Rock and building on shifting sand
Today’s Text Is At The Tail End Of The Sermon On The Mount --Luke 6:46
What will we do with such profound instruction from the maker of the universe?
Even if we believe in Jesus and like his teachings…what will we do with our beliefs?
Ah! That is clearly the pressing matter to be decided!
Cross Reference James 5:17 (TNIV)In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
Luke 6:46 (CEV) Contemporary English Version
Why do you keep on saying that I am your Lord, when you refuse to do what I say?
Jesus’ Story Of Two Builders May Have Eternal Judgment Built In --Luke 6:47-49
Judgment will surely be disastrous to those who don’t build on the words of Jesus.
Forgiving people will receive God’s forgiveness --Matthew 6:14-15
Generous folk will be treated more kind than the judgmental types --Matthew 7:1
Ignore Jesus in regard to adultery, murder, pride and other behaviors and you are in deep trouble.
Is eternal judgment the ‘storm’ Jesus refers to?
Life Is Full Of Storms, Too. We Need A Sure Foundation
Dealing with odd people, enemies and those who wish us evil…that’s bad weather for sure. --Luke 6:27ff
Facing persecution…how’s that for thunder and lightning! --Luke 6:22-23
Look around at all the cries for your resources…a flood of need. --Luke 6:31
Luke 6:27 (NLT) But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you.
Luke 6:22 (NLT) What blessings await you when people hate you and exclude you and mock you and curse you as evil because you follow the Son of Man.
Luke 6:31 (NLT) Do to others as you would like them to do to you.
I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
I trust him as my Lord and Savior.

Jesus promises calm at the eye of the storm…in the here and now and the then and there. -- John 14:27
John 14:27 (TNIV)Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jesus Is Speaking About The Contrast Between Cheap Words And Expensive Love
“If anyone loves me he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him and come to him, and we will make our home with him.” ---John 14:23
Ah! This is the solid foundation…Christ in us!
The old song:
On Christ the solid rock I standAll other ground is sinking sandAll other ground is sinking sand.
John 14:23 (TNIV)Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
We Obey The Teaching Of Jesus Because…
He is lord…we are his loving servants and friends
His words are true.
They are the greatest wisdom for navigating life.
They transform us into his likeness.
They will judge us.
He said to.
