    Justin I

Justin the first was considered a great emperor of the medieval ages.He was born in 450, as nothing more than a spec on an emperorsshoe. Born as a peasant, any decision he made was history. He rosehis way through the Byzantine army and ended up an emperor. Notonly did he do this, but he was illiterate. He couldnt read, or write.Even more, he was 70 years old when he came to power. One majorcontribution he made as emperor was repealing a law that banned amember of a noble class to marry a member of a lower class. This

was a major conflict at this point in time. Justin died on August 1,527. The town that was known as Anazarbus, located in modern dayTurkey, was re-named Justinopolis in 525 in honor of this fantasticemperor.

Pepin the ShortPepin the Short, son of Charles Martel and Rotrude of Trier, lived from 714 to 768. He

was the King of the Franks from 752 to 768 and was the first emperor of the Holy

Roman Empire. Pepin the Short was also the father of Charlemagne. He was the mayor

of the palace of Neustria and the mayor of the palace of Austrasia. Pepin the Short was

appointed King by the Pope in 752, and in return he promised to give protection to the

church. The appointing was important because it basically meant that he had the

support of god and the church. Pepin the Short defended Rome against the Lombards.

When he got the Lombards out of Rome he gave the land to the pope, making the

Franks more closely connected with the Church. In his time, he extended his land and

laid the foundation of the Papal States.
