Luke 22  —  UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

"Then, taking bread and giving thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying: 'This is My body to be given for you. Do this as a remembrance of Me.' " —22:19

In the midst of Judas' betrayal, Jesus gave us His body and blood in Holy Communion. In the midst of Peter's denials, Jesus suffered out of love for Peter. In the midst of our sinfulness, Jesus continues to love us unconditionally. "It is rare that anyone should lay down his life for a just man, barely possible that for a good man someone may have the courage to die. It is precisely in this that God proves His love for us; that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Rm 5:7-8).

AWESOME FAITH

The Dying Criminal had more faith that the rest of Jesus’ followers. All put to shame their hope for the Kingdom was shattered.

Most have gone into hiding. As one of the follower sadly said a day later, “we had thought he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. 24:12

Such a statement would indicate defeat by contrast the criminal look at Jesus who was dying next to him and said, “ Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom”

By all appearances the Kingdom was The criminal’s statement depicts the awesome faith o this man who alone saw beyond his present shame and was led into the coming Glory.

WITNESS TO CHRIST’S RESURRECTION

Jesus was put to death by crucifixion

He was buried in the tomb by a man named Joseph, from Arimathea

The tomb was found empty with days of his burial

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to a number of people. In only one of those cases, involving Paul, was the appearance clearly described as a vision.

The Disciples.who had left doubting and somewhat defeated by the crucifixion of Christ, wre quickly transformed by his resurrection, and then went out to organize their efforts to spread Jesus’ message to the entire world.

Lk 24  —  ALIVE AND WELL FOREVER"The Lord has been raised! It is true!" —24:34

Alleluia! Jesus is alive! He is risen from the dead! We meet the risen Christ not by seeing His glorified, physical body but by hearing His word. After our hearts burn inside through the power of His word, we recognize the risen Christ through the breaking of the bread. Then the risen Lord clothes us with the Spirit's power, and we become witnesses of the risen Jesus to all nations.
