Collection for the Church in Central

and Eastern Europe

On the weekend of July 14-15, we will take up a collection for the Church in Central and East-ern Europe. This collection supports the Church in over 25 countries that are still struggling to re-cover in the after-math of communist rule. Funds from this collection support pastoral care, catech-esis, building renova-tions, and seminary formation. Your sup-port restores the Church and builds the future in this region. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection next week. More infor-mation can be found at www.usccb.org/ccee.

Have you ever wondered why it is not easy to be a good Christian now-a-days? Why is it that it is not easy to be holy? Why is it peer pressure is so hard to resist?

I got to thinking of why it is so hard to live up to the holiness of the Lord. It is like the life of a salmon—its life is a very interesting one. From the fresh water rivers, they go through their normal life cycle as eggs and fingerlings and with time they will live in the sea. But once they reach maturity, they go back to their spawning grounds. Sometimes it can seem an impossible task, full of dangers, traps, and many obstacles.

For us humans our journey has it’s ups and downs, swimming against the overbearing current of the rivers of life. But guess what?

The odds are stacked heavily against you and me if we want follow God, and there is a very strong current that is sweeping across the face of this so-called earth that we live in. Sometimes I really don’t know who is in a better place—the salmon swimming upstream to their spawning grounds or us Christians trying to live holy lives in an unholy world.

“Pursue holiness, without which no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12: 14). God desires us to pursue holiness at all cost, because without holiness we cannot see the Lord.”

We need to actively pursue holiness if we desire to draw to God because the world will not give us holi-ness on a silver platter but will put all hindrances and obstacles in front of us.

“Let the grace of your baptism bear fruit in a path of holiness. Let everything be open to God; turn to him in every situation. Do not be dismayed, for you can do this in the power of the Holy Spirit, and holiness, in the end, is the fruit of the Holy Spirit in your life “(Gal. 5: 22-23). When you feel the temptation to dwell on your own weakness, raise your eyes to Christ crucified and say: ‘Lord, I am a poor sinner, but you can work the miracle of making me a little bit better.’”

You may complete and cut this Membership Form and then drop it into the Offertory basket or mail it to the Parish Office (PO Box 307 Morehead KY 40351).
