Warfare-Hopi !   Because they lived in a

area without many resources, there were not many other tribes around to compete with, so the Hopi were quite peaceful.

!   The Hopis traded with other tribes for items they needed.

Page 21: Lukas christman napdf

Warfare-Fox

!   Because they lived in an area with so many desirable resources, the Fox had to compete with other tribes frequently.

!   Although they sometimes traded with other tribes, usually they fought each other. The Fox had many enemies. This is why they needed a war chief and an army of warriors.

Conclusion -Hopi The environment each tribe lived in, played a big role in shaping their culture.

The Hopi lived in a harsh environment with few resources. It was a challenge to live and there were not many tribes that choose to live in this area. This made the tribe value community and sharing. They had to work together to survive. This is reflected in their homes, where they all lived together in pueblos. They raised crops together as a group. They were peaceful and traded with other tribes to get the things they needed.

Page 25: Lukas christman napdf

Conclusion - Fox The Fox tribe lived in an area that had many desirable resources, that other people wanted. This caused them to be less trustful and more aggressive. You can see this reflected in their lifestyle. The Fox built individual houses, rather than shared housing like the Hopi. They lived more separate lives. They had individual small gardens rather than large community fields. They elected a war chief and had an army to fight the many people that raided them and tried to take their things.

Which Would I Choose? If I had to choose, I would live with the Hopi tribe. The Fox tribe has more food and resources but their lives were much more violent. Although the daily life of the Hopi was more difficult, I would enjoy the way they work and live together.
