Thank you so much for all your support this semester! We will be sending a review calendar home during the holidays. Please help your child complete it, letting them be as independent as possible. And most importantly, don’t forget to READ everyday with your

child (at least 20 minutes please)!

We are so proud of the progress our students have made in math this semester. We have mastered adding and subtracting within 20, finding 1 more/less than a number, 10 more/10 less than a number, skip counting to 100, using place value, creating and solving math story problems, and much more! The concepts and skills that were new earlier in the year now seem easy! Please reinforce these skills over the winter break to continue to help your child grow and be ready to learn more in 2018!

In reading, we will be finishing up our look into why authors write the books that they do. Knowing an author's purpose for writing a book will help us better understand what we are reading. We are also continuing to explore plural and singular nouns to help us become better writers.

O recesso escolar está chegando! Será tempo de descanso e diversão, mas também tempo de continuar a desenvolver a leitura e a escrita. Sugerimos que os estudantes continuem praticando a escrita por meio de listas de palavras, pequenos textos, trabalhos de coordenação motora fina e a leitura diária com a família, que pode ser feita por meio da plataforma do Elefante Letrado. Alguns alunos já alcançaram mais de 7900 pontos. Isso é incrível! Parabéns pelo empenho! É válido lembrar que o kit de férias será enviado na última semana de aula e também estará disponível no website da classe!

To finish up our animal and plant unit, we will be discovering habitats. We will explore and create different habitats while learning how different plants and animals live in these environments!

In art this month, we will be finishing our Van Gogh Project. This quarter we have been exploring oil pastels and new drawing techniques. Grade 1 students’ art abilities and fine motor skills are growing fast! We are very excited to share all of our great work with you during our end of the semester presentation. Way to go grade 1!

This month we will revisit our narrative writing to tell stories about ourselves. We will also be focusing on adding details with a problem and solution in creative writing!
