Lufthansa Cargo successfully implements Fuel Eciency software from Aviaso Zurich, Switzerland - 2 July 2015 - Lufthansa Cargo successfully implements the Fuel Efficiency software from Aviaso. The all-cargo airline is the third carrier in the Lufthansa group to implement the comprehensive fuel efficiency solution from Aviaso and the 20th airline to use the software from Aviaso. Lufthansa Cargo has set a target to lower the specific fuel consumption of its freighter fleet by 25 percent by 2020 compared to 2005. To achieve this, the airline is implementing numerous measures for optimized efficiency during flight and on the ground. The Aviaso software will support the carrier in monitoring these measures as well as in finding new areas for fuel savings. “We are already implementing most of the well-known initiatives for fuel savings, and we are also generating huge amounts of data that can provide transparency on how we spend our fuel”, says Bjorn Ostertag, Head of Fuel Efficiency & Punctuality Management at Lufthansa Cargo. “The challenges are to select the data and make sure it is correct, analyze the data, and then present it in an easy-to-understand way. It was clear that we need a specialized analysis tool to help us in our Fuel Efficiency program. Our main selection criteria for this kind of software are: high precision in data quality, option of comparing planned and actual data in fine detail, and provision of easy-to-read output in various formats. We are happy to say that we have found a partner in Aviaso which meets all our requirements.” Some of the areas where Lufthansa Cargo is increasing fuel efficiency include aircraft weight reduction, optimized flight planning, increased aircraft performance and identification of shortcut possibilities. Mr. Ostertag stresses that “the Aviaso software will be used to quantify and continuously monitor the savings achieved in each of these areas. However, we aim to have an even more efficient operation in the future, so we need to generate new ideas and define new measures which are beyond our imagination today. The Aviaso system will help us to do this.” The fuel efficiency software from Aviaso includes more than 100 ready-made analysis reports. These reports allow an airline to thoroughly understand their fuel consumption and to identify potential fuel savings. The Aviaso solution not only identifies fuel savings, but also helps in really achieving these savings by rigorously monitoring the various fuel-saving initiatives for each and every flight. In addition, the software also provides comprehensive reporting to ensure full compliance with the EU Emissions Trading System legislation.
