Day 1 - 20 March 2019 Lima On arrival at Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport you will be transferred to your hotel in the well-known coastal suburb of Miraflores. You will have a group meeting at 7pm with your tour leader.

§ Accommodation: Antigua Miraflores Hotel (Standard room)

Day 2 - 21 March 2019 Lima (B,D) Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador, Francisco Pizarro, it was from Lima that all Spanish territories in South America were governed. Few cities at that time could rival Lima’s power, wealth and opulence. However its glory days ended in 1746 when the city was virtually destroyed by an earthquake. Many of the colonial buildings were rebuilt and you will get a first-hand look at several of them on the tour. The striking Plaza Mayor (Plaza de Armas), flanked by some of the most important buildings in town such as the cathedral, the huge Government Palace and the Archbishop’s Palace, constitutes the heart of the city. In the morning, you will visit the nearby San Francisco Monastery, with its catacombs containing some 70,000 human remains. Next we will visit the Central market where we will take a walking tour. The market has a huge variety of fresh produce on offer including fruits, vegetables and even Guinea pigs. You will have the opportunity to try some local Peruvian fruits and street food. Next we will visit China town which is close to the Market. The tour will finish in Lima main square, and then you will return to your hotel. Rest of the afternoon will be free. In your spare time you might enjoy wandering around Miraflores, visiting Parque del Amor (Love’s Park) where you can enjoy a view across Lima’s beaches, or catch a taxi to visit the Gold Museum or the Larco Museum, which is renowned for its ancient pottery collection. Please remember that you must agree on a fare with the driver before catching a taxi, as the taxis here do not have meters. (Miraflores-Downtown approximately 10-15 soles). You may also want to visit the impressive National Museum of Anthropology, Archaeology and History of Peru, which is home to a wonderful collection of cultural exhibits tracing the history, arts and accomplishments of the people of Peru, ranging from the original inhabitants of the land through to the Inca Empire and the Spanish conquerors. There are a number of restaurants and cafes to choose from for dinner. Lima has some of the most superb cuisine in South America and is especially renowned for its exceptional seafood. During your time here, you may wish to try ceviche, Peru’s national dish, which is raw fish marinated in lime juice and often served with hot peppers. Tonight you will go out for an included welcome group meal together.

Day 4 - 23 March 2019 Amazon Jungle (B,L,D) In the morning, you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight to the Amazon Jungle, Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, we will meet you at the airport and will transfer you to our office located just 5 minutes away. Here you will leave most of your luggage in a safe storage and continue travelling with a small pack with just the necessary items for your next two nights in the jungle. We will continue our journey by vehicle for 45 minutes to the indigenous community of lnfierno. Then will take a motor boat a long the warm and calm waters of the Tambopata River. The estimated travel time is roughly 30 minutes, during which you will enjoy a delicious lunch typical of the Peruvian jungle. After this relaxing boat ride you will arrive at the lodge where you will receive a warm welcome by the lodge manager. Then, you will be assigned your rooms and your guide will explain the activities for the next couple of days. As your first activity, a member of the community will explain how the old ‘Ese Eja’ is made and used, the bow and arrow is used to hunt in the area for food to feed their families. You will have the opportunity to practice this fun activity. This will require a large amount of concentration since you will be using the bow from a long distance. Following dinner you will have the chance to head out on a caiman search. You will return to the river with flashlights in search of the red reflection of caiman eyes lurking along the river bank. With luck, you will have the opportunity to see some nocturnal animals as well. It is a magical feeling to witness them being alone in the wilderness.

Day 5 - 24 March 2019 Amazon Jungle (B,L,D) In the morning, you will travel by boat for 30 minutes and then walk for 25 minutes until we’ve reached the water’s edge of the lake adjacent to the Tambopata reserve. Upon arrival we will have an amazing view of the lake surrounded by beautiful ‘aguaje’ palms. You will be able to find and see a variety of jungle fauna, such as hoatzin, monkeys, macaw, black caiman, flying parrot, and if we are luck we will see a family of giant river otters (pteronoura brasilienses ), an endangered species. You will also have the opportunity to pass a parrot feeding ground, here the macaws and other species of birds come every morning to feed on the salt in the clay. The macaws begin by ceremoniously circling the cliff area. The birds consume the salt for 20 to 25 minutes and they depart. It is believed that the salt from the clay detoxifies the fruit diet of the birds. Next, you will return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch, you will head to the medicinal garden located very close to the lodge. There you will meet the shaman of the community who will talk to the group about medicinal plants like: ayahuasca, chacruna, para para, chuchuhuasi, uiia de gato, ajosacha, etc. Which are used and prepared by villagers to treat illnesses, such as: rheumatism, colds, diabetes, fever, gastro intestinal problems, coughs, anemia, etc. Finishing the journey, you will have the opportunity to go to the facility where all medicines are prepared. Then, after dinner, you will take a night walk on one of the lodge’s trails searching for insect, amphibians, tarantulas, bats, and nocturnal birds, all while listening to different animal sounds. If you’re lucky you will see some nocturnal mammals.

Day 6 - 25 March 2019 Cusco (B) After breakfast buffet, take a ride back to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorized canoe. You will then be transferred to the airport to take your flight to Cusco. On arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. The rest of the morning will be free to relax and acclimatize to the new altitude (3,450 meters above sea level). The city itself is the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city and was the home of the Incas for two centuries before the Spanish built their first capital here. Today Cusco is a fascinating combination of both cultures. Incabuilt walls line the central streets and many of the elegant colonial buildings are built on or around Inca foundations. This is a city steeped in history, tradition and legend and is a perfect base for explorations into the Inca world or to enjoy a range of outdoor activities. In the afternoon, your leader will take you on a walking tour including a visit to the Coca Musuem - where you can learn more about this infamous plant which has been an essential part of life in the Andes for centuries. On the way you will see the Stone of Twelve Angles at the Inca Roca Palace, on Hatun Rumilloc Street. Then, you will visit the heart of the city, “the Plaza de Armas”, surrounded by colonial arcades and four churches. You will explore the San Pedro Market where you will find vegetables, meats, local cheeses (which you should certainly try), local chocolates, herbal medicines and many local handicrafts. It’s a great place to purchase some souvenirs. The market is also a place where many locals go to eat ‘mystery soups’. Some may be just chicken; however, the most popular amongst the locals are usually the more unusual ones like frog soups or soups that contains nose to tail of various animals.

§ Accommodation: Xima Cusco Hotel (Standard Room)

Day 7 - 26 March 2019 Cusco (B) Today is a free day in Cusco. You could use your ticket called “Boleto Turistico” that was included on your city tour program. This boleto Turistico (Tourist Ticket) gives you entry to different places in Cusco. Some of these places are visited during your city tour. However on your free time in Cusco you will be able to use this Boleto Turistico to visit the rest of the museums, churches and sites. On the backside of the ticket you will find information about opening and closing times and some telephone numbers, etc. You will also find a map of the central parts of Cusco, and a little map that gives you a hint on where some places outside Cusco are located (Machu Picchu, Chinchero, Pisaq, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo etc). Also we recommend you visit the traditional and picturesque neighborhood of San Blas. To get to this place you have to take a short but increasingly steep walk from the Plaza de Armas. Here, you can find art studios, artisan workshops, many of the best bars and restaurants. It’s a great area to wander around!

Day 8 - 27 March 2019 Sacred Valley (B,L) Travel by private bus through the Sacred Valley, known as Wilcamayo by the Incas, the lush, fertile valley has long been the main source of food for the high Andes. Maize crops can be seen surrounding the river and covering the terraces carved high into the valley walls. At the Sacred Valley you will visit the stone fortress of Sacsayhuaman where massive stone blocks that form the walls of this site give you an awesome picture of how highly developed Inca engineering was. Looking over the city from its hilltop position, the fortress is built out of massive stone blocks and is the ultimate example of the Inca’s military strength. You will head to a community in the Valley to learn about local lifestyle and activities and if our visit coincides with market day you can spend time browsing the stalls in search of hand-painted beads or warm ponchos and maybe practicing some of the local language, Quechua. Typical lunch is included this day. In the afternoon, you will head to the town of Ollantaytambo that was built over an ancient Inca town, which is a magnificent example of Inca urban planning. This is one of the few places where the Incas defeated the Spanish. Ollantaytambo’s archaeological site is located to the east of the Plaza de Armas. The upper terraces of this site offer great photo opportunities of the squared grid town below.

§ Accommodation: Samanapaq Hotel (Standard Room) or similar

Day 9 - 28 March 2019 Aguas Calientes (B,D) This morning you will have some free time to wonder around the beautiful town of Ollantaytambo. Then, at midday you will walk to the train station located near the hotel. You will board the “Expedition” train towards Aguas Calientes, a modern little town close to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. The train ride to Machu Picchu is one of the most beautiful journeys that visitors can experience in this country. After passing the Sacred Valley of the Incas the train starts to descend gradually along the edge of the Urubamba River, till finally reaching the cloud forest. After approximately 1 hour 45 minutes you will have arrived in Aguas Calientes town, where you will be to taken to your hotel. The remainder of the afternoon will be free. We recommend you discover this beautiful town, by visiting the open-air market, filled with displays of local Andean curios and clothing or relax at the thermal baths located at the end of the town.Dinner is included in a local restaurant.

Day 12 - 31 March 2019 Puno (B,L) Today, you will travel to Puno (10 hours bus journey). This is a unique experience; the first half of the journey is dominated by the magnificent Andean mountains which tower over the deep valleys. It then reaches the gentler, rolling Andean Plains, where vicuñas and alpacas can be seen. On the journey, you’ll enjoy seeing a variety of different locations that hold magical charm and an ancestral history, such as: The Sistine Chapel of the Americas or the Andahuaylillas church, which was built during the 17th century; the archaeological site of Raqchi, also known as Temple of Wiracocha, the majestic La Raya pass (road limit between Cusco and Puno, with a beautiful view of the Chimboya Glacier), and the fascinating Lithic Museum of the Pukará culture, where you can find pottery and sculptures representing zoomorphic figure. Lunch is included in a restaurant on route. Located on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Puno is a melting pot of Aymara and Quechuan Indian culture and traditional Andean customs are still strongly represented here. The town is known as the folklore capital of Peru and is famous for its traditional dances. Many festivals are celebrated here, so if you’re lucky your visit might coincide with one of the colorful evening parades, when the streets fill with costumed dancers and musicians. Tonight you will stay in a Puno hotel. Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world, sitting at 3,820 m above sea level. From the shoreline, the water stretches out almost as far as the eye can see, its expanses just waiting to be explored.

§ Accommodation: Taypikala Lago Hotel (Standard Room)

Day 13 - 1 April 2019 Lake Titicaca (B) Today you will visit Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. A full day tour by boat to the Uros and Taquile Island will uncover the Andean culture. The lake contains numerous islands whose inhabitants continue to live as their ancestors have in custom and tradition. The Uros, an example of this; live on “floating islands” that they have artificially made entirely of totora reeds, and they navigate in their traditional boats also made out of totora reeds. The Uros on the islands have intermarried with the Aymara and no pure Uros exist. The people are friendly, but very poor, and consequently there are constant requests for money. Rather than giving the children money or sweets, we suggest that you buy their little reed boats or drawings from the children. Then, we continue to Taquile Island, located on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca 45 km offshore from the city of Puno. It will take a couple of hours to reach the island so perhaps bring a book along or get ready to sit back and watch the world go past. The end destination is worth the trip. About 2,200 people live on the island. Taquile is known for the kindness of its residents, their ancestral skill in weaving, their pre-Columbian constructions and lovely countryside. You will find fine handwoven textiles and clothing, which are regarded as among the highest-quality handicrafts in Peru. In the afternoon, you will return to Puno by boat.

Day 14 - 2 April 2019 La Paz (B) Today, you will travel to Desaguadero, where you’ll cross the border into Bolivia. The first stop is the Peruvian migration office where you’ll be asked to leave the bus and proceed through Peruvian migration. Then walk via a bridge to the Bolivian side, submit your passport at the Bolivian migration office and reboard the bus, which will continue to La Paz. About 30 minutes after crossing the border there’s another stop where the army will again check your documents. Bolivia is one to two hours ahead of Peru. On your way to La Paz, you will stop at Tiahuanaco for a guided visit. The Tiahuanaco archaeological site was where the Incas learned about building systems and agricultural practices. This was the base of a great civilization that began around 500 BC before mysteriously ‘disappearing’ around 1200 AD. It is believed that the ceremonial complex date back to the 8th century AD and was once at the center of a powerful and self-sustaining empire based in the southern Central Andes. The sprawling ruins comprise of temples, courtyards, terraced pyramids, monolithic stone statues and gateways. The most famous structure is the Puerta Del Sol (Gateway of the Sun). From the ruins it is less than a two-hour drive to La Paz, where you’ll spend the night. You will enjoy spectacular views of the city on your approach, due to its unique location in the middle of a vast volcanic crater that resembles a bowl.

§ Accommodation: Rosario de la Paz Hotel (Standard Room)

Day 15 - 3 April 2019 La Paz (B) At around 3,600 meters above sea level, La Paz feels like the top of the world. It’s not far from it and vies with Tibet for the title of highest capital in the world. Although Sucre is the official capital of Bolivia, La Paz is the center of commerce, finance and industry. Despite the abundance of colonial architecture, La Paz’s indigenous roots run deep, and the atmosphere in the marketfilled streets is both modern and traditional. This morning you will head out on an included half day city tour. You will visit Moon Valley known to the locals at Valley de la Luna, which is a maze of canyons and giant spires. Following this head back to La Paz and delve into the witches market, where witches in dark hats sell dried llama fetuses for good luck. Your tour will finish with a ride up the cable car to view the city from above.

5 DAY SOLOS TOUR – APRIL 2019EASTER ISLAND

Day 1 - 11 April 2019 Santiago de ChileWelcome to Santiago de Chile! Upon arrival you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel.

§ Accommodation: Providencia Hotel

Day 2 - 12 April 2019 Easter Island At an appropriate time, you will be transferred to the airport and take the flight to Santiago – Easter Island. (flight booked at own arrangements). On arrival at Easter Island’s Mataveri Airport you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel in Hanga Roa, the island’s main town. Once you have checked into the hotel the remainder of your first day will be free. Hanga Roa is a small place with 3800 inhabitants, but has excellent facilities such as banks, shops, restaurants and bars. At the port in the middle of town you will be immediately greeted by your first ‘moai’ - Ahu Tautira. There is much to see and do if free time is available. To the north of town are some scenic spots complete with more ‘moai’, as well as the Sebastian Englebert Museum of Anthropology - a good place to get acquainted with the Easter Island story.

§ Accommodation: Taha Tai Hotel or similar

Day 3 - 13 April 2019 Easter Island (B,L) After breakfast you will join a guided excursion around Easter Island. The island covers an area of 117 square kilometres, so it is quite manageable to see most of the island in a day. You’ll leave Hanga Roa and travel along the south coast to Ahu Vaihu, where you will see eight large toppled ‘moai’ lying face down on the ground. You’ll then continue to Rano Raraku, a large volcano also known as ‘the nursery of the moai’ because the statues around the island were cut from the stones that came from this quarry. Around this area can be found a 21 metre high ‘moai’ - the largest one ever carved. At Ahu Tongariro, you will be

faced with the impressive sight of 15 restored ‘moai’ right on the coastline. The originals were destroyed by a huge tidal wave in 1960. Along the north coast is Anakena - a beautiful sandy beach with swaying palm trees. However, as with many significant spots on Easter Island, there is a ‘moai’ nearby standing guard in its own inimitable fashion.Included Activities:• Full day tour to Anakena

§ Accommodation: Taha Tai Hotel

Day 4 - 14 April 2019 Easter Island (B) In the morning you will make your way down to Orongo Ceremonial Village, which is set in a dramatic location 400 metres high on a ridge with the ocean on one side and the crater lake of Rano Kau on the other. It contains remnants of art relating to a birdman cult that has been around on the island for centuries. Nearby are a few ‘moai’ at Ahu Vinapu. In the afternoon you will travel to Akivi and view the seven ‘moai’ that overlook the site of an ancient village and out west towards the setting sun.Included Activities:• Half day tour to Orongo and Rano Kau• Half day tour to Akivi and the ceremonial sector of

Tahai
