1870 - 1900

Creation of the CompanyJoseph Lucas, Birmingham 1834, began in the early 1860s as a dealer in paraffin oil for domestic lamps and soon saw potential to expand into the transport market. In 1875, he opened a small workshop with 5 employees. In 1880 a new factory was built, which developed into the iconic Great King Street premises becoming the hugely successful Lucas Electrical business in Birmingham. In 1897, Joseph Lucas Ltd achieved a leading position in its market. The strength of the business enabled Joseph to enter the infant automotive parts and accessories market.

1900 - 1920

The range extendedThe range extended to include cycle, motorcycle and car ac-cessories including oil, acetylene, and electric lamps. Lucas grew because it continued to identify and deliver innovations that automotive manufacturers really needed.The acquisition of Thomson-Bennett Ltd provided magneto capability to add to the growing Electrical portfolio. This re-volutionized night driving, in 1920s.

1940 - 1960

The new brake businessIn 1943, the Girling brake business was acquired, adding hydraulic braking to the company’s product portfolio.In 1951 the holding company distributive subsidiary com-panies were set up due to the ever increasing range of pro-ducts. Product milestones included the first disc brake fitted to a production car and the introduction of the DPA rotary fuel injection pump.

1960 - 1970

European expansionLucas grew yet again in 1960 as expansion across Europe, with brake manufacturing in France and Germany, diesel partnerships in France and Spain plus a significant deve-lopment of the aftermarket network. Lucas Service became a global enterprise, exporting to over 130 markets with around 4,000 authorized outlets.

1990 - 2000

Entering the top 10 manufacturers In 1994 we met the need for globalized production by adopting a green brand colour for all our signage by provi-ding high technology products. The merger to create Lucas Varity in 1996 resulted in the formation of one of the top ten automotive component suppliers in the world. This was followed by acquisition by TRW in 1999. TRW is now the global leader in automotive safety systems.

2000 - 2010

TRW license the Lucas brandIn 2003 the decision was made by TRW to license the Lucas brand to specialist licensees who could continue the deve- lopment and investment of the Lucas programs.Today Lucas continues to grow while expanding into new markets with new products. Automotive technology changes fast. We’re successful because we’ve always been innovators, giving you the solutions that keep you equipped for the future.

2016

Remaned, exclusive license for Lucas DieselRemaned is proud to have been appointed as the exclusi-ve licensee for Lucas Diesel Fueling products in Europe and Central/South America in 2016. The Lucas products will continue the Remaned tradition of innovation, quality and reliability.

Lucas Uses the green image The group was renamed as Lucas Industries in 1974 and, as part of a new corporate identity, the Lucas diagonal was introduced, a brand icon now familiar throughout the world. Lucas Automotive, 1988, moved into the production of high-technology engine management and braking systems for au-tomotive customers around the world.

1920 - 1940 Largest supplier of electrical equipmentWith the acquisition of C.A. Vandervell & Co. Ltd. and Rotax Ltd. Lucas became the largest supplier of electrical equipment to the majority of British vehicles and the largest manufacturer of accessories. In 1930s, there was heavy-duty electrical vehicle equipment, fuel injection pumps for diesel engines, and the beginning of the aviation business, the foundation of Lucas Aerospace.

Common Rail InjectorsWith more than 450 references in their catalogue, Lucas gives us the possibility of accessing 93% of the CR injectors in the market.

Unit Injector PumpsEven though UIPs are not produced for pas-senger cars any longer, they are still at the top of diesel product sales. Lucas supplies the complete range of UIPs from VW group.

Diesel Fuel InjectorsIn spite of being a product that is not moun-ted in the vehicles years ago, the current car park is still making use of them. Lucas offers them in its product range.

Excellence through training

E-LearningOur e-Learning program is a pioneer in the au-tomotive sector. With a didactic, interactive ap-proach and innovative methods, learning about the latest automotive technologies will be made both practical and easy for the busiest of distri-butors and installers.

Practical trainingThe LUCAS Academy uses both theoretical and practical training methods. We will engage face to face with the installers so that they can develop the skillset and knowledge required for today´s automotive industry.

To achieve this, we have innovative facilities, adapted mobile equipment and highly qualified professionals.

Trouble shooting for workshopsToday, it is virtually impossible to envisage a work-shop without diagnostic equipment. Currently, up to 99% of workshops have such equipment.

However, this is just the first component: to be able to compete, vital technical assistance will be provided, a powerful tool for our customer’s businesses.

The Lucas Academy is a global company for training of automotive technologies based in East Sussex but also fully operating in five locations across the UK with the aim of enhancing customer service quality on a global level and supporting our international customers from Europe, Russia, Central and South America.
