Many long serving members have commented that the greens are the best they have been for many a year at this stage in the season, testament to the hard work and experse of Kevin and his staff. The season kick started with a great win over Moray GC as we retained the Whitbread Shield for another year. The glorious sunshine and excellent course condions highlighted just how lucky we are to have these two fantasc courses on our doorstep. Parcularly pleasing was the performance by our juniors who won their match 4 - 2. More of the juniors in a separate report… We were again blessed with beauful weather for the Opening weekend. The R J Menzies Memorial Trophy was keenly contested by the Gents on the Saturday with Greg Yeates winning secon 1 and taking the trophy with a ne score of 65. Captain’s Report

The 2017 season is now well and truly under way and I hope that many of you have had the chance to enjoy the continuing good weather and the great conditions on the course. Many long serving members have commented that the greens are the best they have been for many a year at this stage in the season, testament to the hard work and expertise of Kevin and his staff.

The season kick started with a great win over Moray GC as we retained the Whitbread Shield for another year. The glorious sunshine and excellent course conditions highlighted just how lucky we are to have these two fantastic courses on our doorstep. Particularly pleasing was the performance by our juniors who won their match 4 - 2. More of the juniors in a separate report… We were again blessed with beautiful weather for the Opening weekend. The R J Menzies Memorial Trophy was keenly contested by the Gents on the Saturday with Greg Yeates winning section 1 and taking the trophy with a nett score of 65. We also had a core of juniors enjoying the lovely weather on Sunday afternoon. Fingers crossed the fine weather will continue and I hope you all have a great season. Colin McGregor Captain

Elgin Golf Club Juniors It goes without saying that our juniors are the future of the Club. We therefore need to do everything we can to encourage them to enjoy this great game and improve their golf. To that end, a new sub-committee has been established with the following aims: - Improve retention and encourage new members. - Provide a structure & develop a pathway for junior development. - Provide more opportunities for juniors of all abilities to play golf through a variety of different formats. The junior section is captained by Lee Robertson who also sits on the junior sub-committee. The sub-committee have already implemented some new measures designed to meet their aims. The first is a special offer starting now of first year free membership to 0 - 15 years old. If you know of anyone looking to take up golf, please pass news of this special offer on to them. The second is participation in Gents’ and Ladies’ medals. We currently have a couple of juniors who have handicaps less than 12 competing in Gents’ medals and the ladies section has a junior golfer regularly playing in Ladies’ medals. To incentivise juniors to improve their handicaps and gain more exposure to competition golf, the following rewards will be put in place: Handicap above 28: Play junior medals from the red tees. Handicap 19 to 28: Play junior medals and junior competitions off the yellow tees Handicap 13 to 18: Qualify to play in adult medals off the competition tees (no entry fee and cannot win any prizes) Handicap 0 to 12: No change, compete in adult medals with entry fee and ability to win prizes. Thirdly, a 9 hole Thursday evening medal will be introduced. With these new measures, plus additional coaching from Club Professional, Michael, we will hopefully see the junior section thriving again.

4 Clubhouse Refurbishment As you will see the Clubhouse Refurbishments are ongoing and there will be more to come in the next few weeks. The Snug Bar has now started, and thank you to the members who are doing this in their own time.

3 Course Update

Please see attached the updated WMP. Work to tidy up the path bordering the 4th tee is now complete.

The Irrigation system is nearing completion, and hopefully you do not get wet as they continue to test the system.

The new flags are now in situ, therefore White—Back, Yellow –Middle, Red—Front. The only issue is that one of the new flags has already been stolen from the 10th, therefore there is a standard yellow flag in place.

New Website

We are very excited to announce that the new website is now up and running. The goal

of the new website is not only to allow current members to view club information,

competition results, and book tee times more efficiently but to also generate more

new members and visitors.

There will be a members’ login area where members will be able to view the Club Con-

stitution, Club Newsletter, and other Club Information. This may not be fully function-

ing right away but we will let you know as it becomes available.
