About This Guide

This guide describes the LiveU LU-30 live video uplink system. It describes the hardware that is included and how to use the system in order to broadcast live streaming video for a multitude of purposes. It describes basic information for camera operators as well as more advanced operations that may be of interest to technical personnel and system administrators.

This guide assumes that operators have basic computer knowledge and are familiar with any video equipment being used (cameras, microphones, etc.).

The guide contains the following chapters:

Introduction The LU-30 is a lightweight unit that enables anyone to transmit live video or data at the press of a button using multiple existing, cellular or wireless infrastructures, as well as directly via the Ethernet (LAN).

It is designed to transmit high quality live streaming video from the field for any type of event, such as breaking news, sports or live interviews, without the need for costly satellite or microwave uplink units.

System Overview The LU-30 Live Video Uplink unit simultaneously aggregates a number of networking infrastructures (cellular, Wi-Fi, etc.) to stream live audio and video from field locations to the LU-1000 central server, which is usually located in the broadcast center.

The LU-1000 server gathers the live video feed via a secure internet connection and is then able to supply this feed to the production suite / routing table / website, etc. for further processing. The technology offers a viable alternative to traditional uplinks, both in terms of video quality as well as in pricing, immediacy of service, availability and portability.

Wireless Connectivity The LU-30 unit is designed to search for and connect to whatever cellular, wireless or Ethernet (LAN) data infrastructures are available. The system has several built-in interfaces that are able to establish a connection to many different networks simultaneously in order to overcome inherent bandwidth limitations and offer robust transmissions. In addition, for areas where cellular transmissions are problematic, it is possible to use other available wired or wireless internet connections.

When the operator begins using the LU-30 unit by pressing Connect, the system automatically searches for and connects to all the interfaces it detects in the immediate area and then automatically analyzes and calibrates the system to provide the best possible broadcast according to the profile selected by the camera operator and the actual air bandwidth.

The LU-30 system is also flexible since it enables users to select different configurations for certain situations where it might be necessary to manually configure the original setup. For example, the required bandwidth for transmission may not be sufficient or the video resolution might need to be changed from broadcast to broadcast.

When broadcasting over cellular or wireless infrastructures the physical location of the LU-30 unit should be taken into consideration. There may be areas where the network reception is poor and the unit itself needs to be moved to receive a better signal. For example, when broadcasting from an indoor location, it may be necessary to move the unit closer to a window to get better reception.

NOTE:

Since the LU-30 live video uplink operates on wireless networks, refer to Appendix B Safety & Maintenance for safety and other regulations regarding the operation of the system.

What’s in the Box?

LU-30 Hardware Components The LU-30 Live Video Uplink system consists of the following components • The LU-30 Mobile Client Unit • Two FireWire cables: a 4-pin to 6-pin connection and a 6 pin to 6 pin

connection • One Internal Battery • A dedicated power supply that connects to any standard 110VAC /

220VAC power source • The custom LU-30 backpack • A CD containing this manual and other additional relevant information

This chapter describes how to get started using the LU-30, including setting it up, inserting the battery and turning it on.

Initial Setup The LU-30 live video uplink system consists of a computerized unit that works on either battery or standard AC power source.

The first thing that must be done when receiving the system is to insert the battery and charge it completely. Charge the battery by inserting the battery into the unit and connecting the unit to a standard AC power source via the external power supply supplied with the unit. The unit’s external power supply may be operated on any electric system (110V or 220V) without the need for a transformer. However, it may be necessary to use an adaptor plug depending on the type of electrical socket and outlet available.

Prior to the first use, the battery must be charged for at least 12 hours.

NOTE:

Additional internal batteries or an external battery may be ordered separately. Contact LiveU for more information.

NOTE:

When the system is off, the battery that is installed in the system will discharge to a completely empty condition in about 14 days.

How to Insert the Battery The battery is inserted on the underside of the unit.

After removing the battery compartment cover, slide the battery into the unit in the direction shown in Figure 4, aligning the electrical contacts on the battery with the socket inside the LU-30.

Once the battery is in place, replace the battery cover sliding it into place until hearing a small “click”.

The LU-30 Backpack The LU-30 unit is supplied with a specially designed backpack that provides the best protection for the LU-30 unit while it is being used in the field as well as for ease of operation and comfort of the photographer.

Backpack Features:

• Custom designed for extensive field use with the LU-30

• Ergonomically designed to give the best back support

• Net areas on the side of the bag that ensure the unit is well ventilated to provide best operation of the unit

• Attached rain cover for protection in mildly inclement weather

This specially designed backpack enables the camera operator to be totally mobile while operating the LU-30 since it is designed to allow the unit to be connected to the camera and operated while being worn by the operator.

How to Insert the LU-30 Unit into the Backpack Slide the LU-30 unit into the backpack through the top flap making sure to keep the top of the unit (where the touch-screen is situated) facing the front of the bag.

Once the LU-30 is fully inserted, the touch-screen should be positioned directly under the small “window” on the front of the bag. The flap can be secured so that it protects the LCD from sunlight making it easier to read the user interface when working outdoors in bright sunlight.

Slide the LU-30 unit into the top portion of the backpack and secure the unit with the Velcro strap.

! IMPORTANT:

The flap must be left open even when in use. There are specially designed fasteners that will secure the flap in the open position. Failure to leave the flaps open allowing air to circulate can cause the unit to malfunction.

LU-30 Backpack - Additional features The backpack has several zippered openings that enable the operator to easily access any area needed to operate the LU-30 unit. In addition, there are zippered compartments for personal accessories and an attached rain hood that can be used to protect the entire backpack.

Attaching the Video Camera to the LU-30 unit in the Backpack Open the zippered compartment that covers the DV IN connections on the LU-30 unit. Attach the appropriate cables to the unit.

Secure the cable by passing it through the loop (there are two loops because it is possible the have two wires), pass the wire through the section above the loops and close the Velcro tab.

There are additional Velcro tabs on the backpack straps to secure the wires. These have been designed to prevent loose cables from causing problems with operation of the system while working.

The top opening has an attached rain hood that protects the entire backpack in mildly inclement conditions.

How to Turn on the LU-30 Unit NOTE:

Do not attach your video equipment before turning on the unit and completing the boot-up process.

In order to turn on the LU-30 computerized unit, press and hold the power switch for approximately 2 seconds until it lights up.

Main User Window After a brief “booting up” period, the touch-screen becomes active, and the User Interface appears.

The camera should be attached to the unit only when the LU-30 live video uplink unit has been turned on and has been booted up.

LU-30 Touch-screen Interface The Live Video Uplink User unit’s user interface is a LCD touch-screen. This main window automatically displays when the unit is ready.

This touch-screen window is divided into six tabs that enable the user to accomplish several different tasks to broadcast.

These tab options on the main screen enable the user to do the following.

Lock Click to lock the buttons so that they are not pressed by accident. The following window is then displayed in which you must press the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 in sequence in order to unlock.

Status Pane The bottom of the screen does not change when the tabs are changed. This area contains the status pane, which displays relevant context-sensitive information

The status icon, appearing to the right of this window, provides information about the connection process and the transmission. Each icon describes a specific system connection status.

Status Icon Description

Off (appears before the Connect button is pressed), which means that the system is not yet connected to any interface.

Connecting (the arrow blinks on and off). This appears during the connection process

Connected. Appears after connection is successful, and before Play is pressed.

Active. The system is connected and video is being transmitted correctly

Error (the Red circle will blink on and off) • Error: LU-1000 not responding • Error: Video input not detected

Warning (the Amber circle will blink on and off) • Warning: X packet(s) lost • Warning: X Missing interface(s) • Warning: High data in

NOTE:

When the LU-30 unit is in file transfer mode, the status icons show a document rather than a camera. The indications are the same.

The Battery Icon The Battery icon (far right) enables the user to see the current battery status. When this icon is clicked, the status pane will display the current charge and time remaining. When the unit is connected to an external source, an electric plug symbol will appear next to the battery icon.

Status Icon Description

LU-30 is running off internal battery. Battery is full.

The unit is connected to an AC charger, the battery is currently being charged.

The system has detected a battery calibration mismatch. See Appendix B, Battery Calibration on page 77 for steps to take to remedy this situation.

NOTE:

It is also possible to see the battery charge on the battery itself by opening the battery compartment. There is a small LCD indicator that shows up to five bars of charge.

Getting Ready to Broadcast Press the power switch for 2 – 3 seconds to power up the LU-30 computerized unit.

At this point the camera should not be connected to the unit.

How to Connect the Video Camera

! IMPORTANT:

In order to avoid permanent damage to the camera and the LU-30 Live video uplink unit, you must only use the LiveU provided Firewire (1394E) cables!

In LiveU’s 6 6 Firewire cables, the power cord wires are not connected.

The LU-30 Live video uplink unit supports the following DV camcorder input formats:

• DVSD

• DV50

• DVH1 (DV100)

• DVHD (DV100)

The procedure for connecting a video camera to a LU-30 live video uplink system is simple. First, make sure that the LU-30 unit is up and running before connecting any camera.

Check that the camera is turned off and NOT connected to any external power supply.

Connect one end of the appropriate FireWire cable to the DV port on the video camera and connect the other end to the appropriate port on the LU-30 Video Uplink unit (the LU-30 has several physical outlets, enabling it to be used with just about any connection that is supplied with the camera).

Once the camera is attached to the unit, you can connect an external power supply to the camera, if needed. Turn the camera on. Make sure the video tab is selected on the unit and press Frame Test.

The screen on the unit’s interface should display the scene the camera is capturing.

Please be aware that it is not possible to connect more than one camera directly to the LU-30 unit at any one time, however, it should be possible to connect devices that act as a hub for cameras using FireWire to the LU-30 unit. However, even if more than one camera is connected in this manner, only one feed from one camera at a time will be recognized and transmitted.

Perform Frame Test It is recommended to perform a frame test once the video camera has been connected to the unit. The frame test determines that the LU-30 unit is actually displaying what the camera is shooting.

• Turn on the video camera.

• Press Frame Test to ensure that the LU-30 unit is receiving the picture from the camera. Once pressed, the Frame test changes to Stop Test.

• The main window should display the same picture that is currently being shot by the video camera.

• Once the scene in the user interface window is the same as the video camera frame, press on Stop Test to stop viewing the local video.

If the frame test was not successful, check that:

• The camera is connected correctly to the LU-30 unit

• The camera is turned on and working (check that the camera battery is charged or that the camera is connected to an outside power source)

If the frame test was successful, the next step is to connect the unit to the available wireless infrastructures.

Connect In order to stream video using the LU-30 Live Video Uplink system, it is necessary to connect the unit via the Internet, using one or more wireless networks, to the LU-1000 server side, which is usually situated in the broadcasting center.

• Press Connect.

The Connect button on the display changes to Cancel Connect.

NOTE:

This process may take up to 5 minutes to complete.

The LU-30 unit automatically searches for and detects the interfaces that are available and connects to each one, one by one.

The status pane displays several messages during this process. One is simply “connection in progress” which changes to state that a specific interface is now connected. Then, it will state that another interface is in the process of connecting until the unit has connected to all the interfaces it can find and use. The progress is shown in the bar below the message.

Connecting – Transmission Test In order to accurately calculate and grade the modems and their broadcasting efficiency, the LU-30 automatically transmits a live video stream to the LU-1000 if the camera is connected. If the camera is not connected, then a LiveU pre-stored video stream is transmitted. During transmission, the following window appears showing the transmitted video:

The process finishes when all the available interfaces have been connected and the LU-30 unit has finished analyzing the connection and calibrating the system. This is an internal process that runs automatically.

Elements for Successful Video Transmission

Successful transmission of a high-quality audio/video stream depends on a number of elements, such as video resolution, target resolution, bitrate, codec, etc. The LU-30 unit analyzes the current network conditions and sets the optimum configuration automatically. However, if conditions warrant, it is possible to adjust several of these elements manually.

Target Audience The target audience should be decided before starting transmission. In other words, the camera operator should know what is being filmed and how it will be broadcast from the studio. With this in mind, it is possible to select the appropriate parameters to ensure the best broadcast.

The main factors when deciding target resolution are the quality of the broadcast and the delay. For example, if the event is a sporting event (Olympics, a ball game, etc.), then it is important to use the highest bitrate available. If the broadcast is an interview after the game, then a lower bitrate is effective. If the broadcast is for the Internet, it is not always necessary to use a resolution greater than CIF.

Video Resolution The video resolution is the horizontal and vertical size of the video frame (picture) that is being transmitted. The LU-30 Live Video Uplink system supports different levels of video resolution:

• Full-D1 (720x576 PAL / 720x480 NTSC): This is the highest resolution currently supported by the LU-30 live video uplink, and is normally used for SD (Standard Definition) live TV broadcasts where the highest quality picture is required. Only consider transmitting Full-D1 when the overall available bitrate is over 1Mbps. The optimal video bitrate for Full-D1 transmission is between 1.5 and 2Mbps.

• Half-D1 (720x288 PAL / 720x240 NTSC): This provides close to Full-D1 quality. Use this resolution when a high quality is needed and the uplink bitrate is limited. The lowest bitrate that should be considered in this case is approximately 512Kbps. The optimal bitrate for Half-D1 is between 750Kbps and 1.5 Mbps.

• VGA (640x480 NTSC only): This provides near Full-D1 quality, which is used by some websites. Use this resolution when a higher quality is needed and enough bitrate is available. The lowest bitrate that should be considered in this case is about 750Kbps. The optimal bitrate for VGA is between 1 Mbps and 2 Mbps.

• CIF (360x288 PAL / 360x240 NTSC): This is normally used for Internet output applications as well as TV under some conditions. The optimal encoding bitrate for CIF is between 350 and 750 Kbps (or up to 1.5 mbps total transmission rate under harsh conditions), however, it is possible to start working with CIF from 250Kbps upwards, if necessary. This resolution is available in either NTSC or PAL.

Profile The LU-30 automatically selects the optimal Profile and Resolution. It also enables the camera operator to select a different “Profile” that will determine the basic characteristics of the broadcast (such as quality or delay). This enables the camera operator to determine what can be achieved in the broadcast.

This profile provides higher end-to-end delay and the best image quality. It tells the system to use all the available connections in order to gain the maximum bandwidth possible and configures the system to deliver the best resolution.

If delay is important, select Balanced. This setting provides medium end-to-end delay and high image quality. It uses fewer modems eliminating those with high delay to reduce latency. However, this setting is subject to interference and may lose quality if there are changes in bandwidth or if the signal is interrupted. For example, if you are broadcasting from a moving vehicle that enters a tunnel and the signal is interrupted for a minute or two. In this setting there is no room for recovery so the broadcast is affected.

The Interview profile provides short end-to-end delay and medium image quality. It generally has an end-to-end delay of up to 2 seconds, but it is configurable. This profile gives the maximum quality within that restriction. It is more resilient to changes (errors) and adapts fast to changes in bandwidth. It is designed not to freeze but the quality may drop.

File Transfer Tab The LU-30 Live Video Uplink System enables users to broadcast pre-recorded files and to transfer files from the field directly to the LU-1000 server so that they may be saved for future use.

Transferring Files In order to transfer files between the LU-30 and the LU-1000 server, first turn on the LU-30 unit and press "Connect" to establish the Internet connection.

• Select the File Transfer tab.

The Status icon changes from a camera to a document, which indicates that the system is in File Transfer Mode.

Files can be transferred from the LU-30 unit itself or from a USB device, such as a camera with USB interface attached, which can be attached to the LU-30 unit. One or more files can be selected to be transferred. Once the files are transferred to the LU-1000 server, they can be saved and stored. To transfer a file:

• Click Add

• Select the desired file(s)

• The selected file(s) appears listed under File Name

► To select multiple files at the same time:

• Select the Online Keyboard from the System tab and hold the shift key to select more than one file.

Press Transfer to transfer the selected file(s) to the server.

Once the transmission has been successfully completed, the message “File Transfer Complete” is displayed in the Status Pane

If an error occurs during File Transfer mode, the transmission stops, the system returns to connected status, and the status of the file in the File Transfer tab changes to “Error”. The reason for the error is displayed in the status pane.

Purpose and Scope This section is designed to enable advanced operators to adjust automatic setup of the LU-30 if the situation warrants that they fine-tune the system performance or features.

The initial connection process, which happens when Connect is pressed, ensures that the system automatically calibrates the interfaces available and connected, and determines the maximum parameters to ensure that the broadcast functions at maximum efficiency.

After the initial connection process, advanced users are able to manually analyze the results of the calibration and re-configure the system settings if required. The user can decide which mechanisms are going to run during the reconnect process. For example, if the calibration processes are not required at this stage, these options may be deactivated.

Neither audio nor video bitrates can be changed during broadcast. In order to change the bitrate, it is necessary to stop the transmission before making the change. When certain parameters are changed, the system may need to be restarted for them to take effect.

Calibration This is the process that is activated after Connect is pressed and the network interface connections are activated. During this process the system carries out network-related tests and then determines the available bandwidth, efficiency and delay for each of the interfaces. After this calibration, the LU-30 application is able to calculate the overall system efficiency, total effective bitrate and delay.

Once the system has finished this calibration, the LU-30 unit automatically sets the video bitrate to the highest value recommended by the system according to the selected profile.

If the connection process results in a low video rate, press ReConnect and the system recalibrates itself. If the problem continues, the operator is able to change the video bit rate manually via the Configuration tab. Select the appropriate codec and press settings to be able to change the parameters.

The warning message "video rate too high" is no longer displayed when working with the H.264 codec. Based on the profile selected, users will not be able to set video bitrates, using the CODEC settings dialog, beyond the maximum rate configured in advanced dialog. A warning message will be displayed stating that the Video Rate is beyond the maximum allowed (max 768).

Configuration Tab The Configuration tab displays information about the broadcast. When the user activates Connect, the application automatically searches for all available infrastructure and connects with each modem. Modem information is queried on start-up.

Once the modems are connected, the application automatically calibrates the available bandwidth and determines the parameters to ensure that the system functions at maximum efficiency.

The Configuration tab is comprised of three sub-tabs, each which displays and enables the configuration of different information, as follows:

Profiles Tab The Profiles tab displays the Profile and Resolution that was automatically selected by the system for optimal efficiency. The selected Profile and Resolution is shown with a black rim. For example, the following window shows that the Balanced Profile and Half D1 Resolution were automatically selected:

The user, however, can override the automatic settings and select other parameters that affect broadcast quality. The options that can be selected are shown with a (green). Before connecting the user can select any option.

However, there are limitations to when changes can be made. The user can not select whether to enable/disable modems on the fly and video bitrates cannot be changed during broadcast. In order to change the bitrate, it is necessary to stop the transmission before making the change. When certain parameters are changed, the system may need to be restarted for them to take effect.

Profile The Profile determines the quality and overall latency of the video transmission. The selected Profile appears with a black rim and its description appears underneath, as shown below:

To change the Profile, click on its button. The following describes the features of each Profile:

• Max Quality (Default)

The system provides higher end-to-end delay and the best image quality. The system is optimized for maximum efficiency and stability with more emphasis on the integrity and quality of the transmitted video. In this mode, total system latency may be greater.

• Balanced (low latency)

This profile provides medium end-to-end delay and high image quality. It optimizes the system for the shortest delay but bandwidth may decrease in unstable networks reducing video quality. This profile gives near immediate response.

• Interview

This Profile provides short end-to-end delay and medium image quality. It can provide a minimum end-to-end delay as low as 1.6 seconds. However, the longer the delay, the better the system reacts to temporary air bandwidth deterioration.

The system automatically calculates the optimal delay.

However, you can manually modify this delay. The system automatically calculates the recommended delay range and displays it under the Custom delay field. To change the delay, check the Custom delay checkbox, shown below, and enter the required delay.

! IMPORTANT:

The Custom delay option should only be used by an advanced user in order to set a delay/latency that is shorter or longer than the system automatically calculates as the optimum. It is recommended to set the highest possible delay. It is not recommended to use the Custom delay option for non-stationary or long transmissions.

Setting a delay that is too short may degrade video quality. If the Custom delay is so short that it causes insufficient interfaces to be used or if another technical difficulty may result in degraded video quality.

To change the Resolution, click on its button. You may refer to the Video Resolutions section in Chapter 3, Getting Ready to Broadcast on page 27 for additional information about Resolutions.

The name and the number of vertical and horizontal lines of the selected Resolution are displayed under the Resolution buttons. This description also specifies whether it is for NTSC or PAL analog television encoding systems or both, as shown below:

Advanced Settings Tab The Advanced Settings tab enables you to manually define the Codec parameters used to configure audio and video.

The H.264 Codec is the default option, which supports all Resolutions.

The H.264 codec is an improved video encoder. It allows near real-time encoding and supports an adaptive bitrate, which increases resiliency.

If the bitrate drops the video stream does not flicker or freeze. It also allows encoding in near real-time, enabling full D-1 video images in both NTSC and PAL at full frame rate.

The video rate is set automatically by the application following calibration. The user may override the video bitrate by selecting the Limit video rate checkbox and then setting it manually after the calibration has taken place. The recommended video rate range is displayed under the field along with the currently selected Profile and Resolution. The recommended range varies according to the selected Profile and Resolution.

De-interlace is only available in Full D1 or VGA.

Click to mark/unmark the Deinterlace option. This option performs pre-processing on the input interlaced video stream and converts it to none-interlaced (progressive). This option is disabled in both ‘CIF’ and ‘Half-D1’ resolutions since the video stream in these resolutions is already none-interlaced as the resizing mechanism accomplishes this process:

Two transport stream formats are available, RTP and MPEG-TS. The transport stream setting enables a user to choose the transport protocol in which the audio and video will be transmitted.

The RTP payload format allows for packetization of one or more Network Abstraction Layer Units (NALUs), produced by an H.264 video encoder, in each RTP payload. It is preferable to work with the RTP transport stream since it performs better in terms of efficiency and delay.

However users have the option to choose the MPEG Transport Stream when it is necessary. The MPEG-TS is a communications protocol for audio, video and data. It is a type of digital container format that encapsulates packetized elementary streams and other data.

External

The External Codec option enables you to use an external plugin Codec. The fields in this tab are disabled when the External Codec option is selected.

Remote Servers Tab The Advanced Settings tab displays the IP address and the ports of the LU-1000 server. The IP is the static IP address of the LU-1000 Server that will receive the broadcast. The Data Port and Control Port must be the same on both the LU-30 unit and the LU-1000 server.

These are generally standard open ports. If the Server is connected to the Internet through a firewall or NAT router, then the port must be “open” for access from the public internet on the LU-1000’s side. The IP represents the internet address that will receive the broadcast.

The IP address, Data Port and Control port of a single LU-1000 server can be set by selecting the Set manually option, entering the required fields and then clicking Apply.

Alternatively, if a list of Remote servers has already been loaded, then you can select one from the dropdown list. Each server may have been assigned a meaningful alias that appears in the dropdown list.

To load a list, click the Load list button to display a standard selection window in which you can select a CSV file.

This CSV file must have the following format:

Alias,IP, data port,control port.

For example:

Only one CSV file can be loaded and used at a time, meaning that when you load a new list, it overwrites the previously loaded list.

! IMPORTANT:

When you use the Load list option, the system loads the CSV file and works on the loaded copy. Therefore, if you modify the CSV file, then you must reload it in order to apply the file’s changes in the system.

Interfaces The Interface Table displays a list of all of the interfaces to which the LU-30 unit is able to connect. To display the interface page, press Interface on the Configuration Tab. The table displays relevant information for each network, such as the name of the network, the signal strength in bars as well as kb/s, efficiency and delay in ms.

If N/Q appears, it indicates that the network was not queried, meaning there is no available information for this modem.

In cases of bad calibration, the data retrieved field displays 0 and the Active column is unchecked.

After connect, if an interface disconnects, calibration fields will be gray to indicate history. The active box is not cleared before reconnect

If an interface is unplugged, it will not appear after Reconnect.

Confirm Settings Once all the parameters on the tab have been chosen:

• Press Apply to save and implement settings.

• Press Undo to restore last applied settings.

• Press Restore to return to the default settings.

It is possible to add a USB enabled keyboard and mouse to the LU-30 unit. The USB attaches to the USB outlet on the side of the unit.

Volume The function opens the Volume control and enables the user to adjust the internal volume off the unit.

Screen This function allows the user to change the resolution of the screen on the LU-30 unit.

Click Yes to change the resolution.

Support This feature enables the user to receive external support from LiveU support team if there are problems with the LU-30 live video uplink unit while working in the field. With the addition of 3rd party software, the LiveU technicians are able to access the unit and provide support.

The External Battery It is possible to purchase an external battery to extend the amount of time that the LU-30 live video uplink unit can be used to broadcast in the field.

The battery fits underneath the LU-30 unit while it is not in the backpack, and within the flat battery compartment, while the unit is being carried in the Backpack.

This universal external lithium rechargeable battery pack is designed to give the camera operator up to 3-4 times the battery runtime. The battery comes with its own battery charger and can be charged from any power source with the included AC charger.

How to Use the External Battery Pack The battery pack comes with 12-plug tips that work with most notebooks & other devices.

With the plug tip not connected to the output cord, locate the correct tip by fitting the tip into the LU-30 unit’s DC Jack. The tip should fit snugly in the DC jack

After selecting the proper plug tip, connect the plug tip to the battery cord.

Select the 19V option (not the 12V option).

NOTE:

If the internal battery is not charged, the running time of the external battery may be reduced since it will charge the internal battery at the same time it is powering the unit.

CAUTION:

Always turn off the battery when it is not being used. There is an on/off switch on the back of the battery. Leaving the battery on when it is not in use may damage the battery.

The Anton Bauer Accessory Kit Anton Bauer batteries are some of the most innovative and cost-effective batteries available today. They are well known in the market and provide a simple, effective solution to extend the LU-30's broadcast time. Anton Bauer batteries are not supplied by LiveU.

The Dionic 90 and its longer lasting version, the Dionic 160 have been validated for use by LiveU.

How to Use the Anton Bauer Accessory Kit • Put the external booster in either the rear or bottom compartment of the

backpack. Connect the battery cord to the LU-30 DC jack.

NOTE:

Remember to use the backpack strain relief ring for the cord

• Connect the booster’s Cigarette Lighter plug to its socket mate on the provided harness. Most of the harness should remain in the backpack but leave the 4-Pin XLR male connector outside the bag

• Turn on the LU-30 and wait for the LiveU application to boot up. Once the unit is running, check the internal battery status and remaining time

• Connect the external Anton Bauer battery to the XLR male connector, using a UNIPAC belt or any other 4-PIN XLR female interface

• The LiveU application should now display the power plug icon. As long as this icon is shown, the LU-30’s internal battery will be in charge mode and the LU-30 system will take its power from the external power adapter, i.e. the Anton-Bauer battery.

• Start broadcasting.

• The Anton Bauer fuel gauge will indicate its power capacity level.

• The Anton Bauer battery may be replaced once its fuel gauge shows empty. While the Anton Bauer battery is unplugged, the LU-30 will continue running using the power from its internal battery with no service interruption. The internal LU-30 battery provides an additional 1:15 hours of operation. When the broadcast is complete, the LU-30 battery should be re-charged using the standard external LU-30 power adapter.

If the system issues a message that the battery is not calibrated, or if the battery icon has a yellow box around it, it means that the battery internal capacity measurement logic cannot correctly estimate the actual battery capacity. This is not an abnormal phenomenon, though it should happen only rarely.

If this message/icon appears, the system stops reporting the battery status. In order to correct this situation, the user must perform the following battery recalibration procedure. This should be done as soon as possible, even though the system functions properly even if the battery is in this abnormal state.

There are two ways to calibrate the battery.

• Using the Desktop Charger/Calibrator (preferable)

• Manual Calibration using the LU-30 unit

How to Use the Desktop Charger/Calibrator

The Inspired Energy Charger (model number CH5000) has three (3) LED indicators.

• Green: Charged

• Blue: Calibrated

• Red: Error

When the CH5000 is charging, calibrating or signaling an error, the relevant LED will flash.

• To calibrate the battery, insert it into the charger and wait until the error LED starts flashing.

• Press the "Calibrate button" on the front of the CH5000, which is located in the middle above the calibrated blue LED. The blue LED starts flashing, and continues to flash while the battery goes through the calibration process.

! IMPORTANT:

Please be patient, it may take up to 20 hours to complete the calibration process.

• The LED stops flashing when the process is complete.

How to Manually Calibrate the Battery Using the LU-30 Unit

► Please follow the following four (4) steps:

1 Drain the Battery:

If the unit is operating on the electricity via the AC charger, remove the power jack and unplug the charger.

Turn on the system (using battery power only) allowing it to boot up the LiveU application. Allow the system to continue running until it shuts down automatically. At this point, ignore the battery icon.

NOTE:

It may take up to six (6) hours before the battery is completely drained and stops powering the unit.

! IMPORTANT:

Do not continue with the next step in the calibration process until the system has shut itself down.

2 Charge the Battery:

Ensure that the system is not turned on and operating

Insert the LU-30 AC charger into the LU-30 power jack on the unit and connect the charger to the electricity

Charge the battery for at least 6 hours

! IMPORTANT:

Do not turn on the system while the battery is charging.

! IMPORTANT:

Do not unplug the AC charger at any stage during the charging process.

3 Drain the Battery:

Remove the power jack and unplug the charger.

Insert the LU-30 AC charger into the LU-30 power jack on the unit and connect the charger to the electricity

Charge the battery for at least 6 hours

• Check that there is no yellow box surrounding the battery icon

• The battery icon should appear full

Troubleshooting

This appendix describes how to troubleshoot various issues that may occur on the LU-30.

Problem Solution

The power switch LED does not light when pressed for more than few seconds

Check to see that the battery is charged.

If available, connect the enclosure to an AC power source using the supplied charger.

If the LED on the enclosure still does not light up, then either the charger or the unit itself may be damaged. Contact your LiveU representative

Camera not working (nothing appears when Frame Test is clicked)

Check to see that the camera battery is charged.

If the camera seems to be working, make sure that it is correctly connected to the LU-30 via a Firewire (“DV”) cable.

Problem Solution

LU-30 Software is not connecting

Make sure that the LU-1000 server is running, awaiting connections and not blocked by any firewalls or NAT routers

Make sure that the LU-1000 IP and port definitions are identical on both client and server. Verify that the interfaces are active by checking the Interface Table.

Low quality video results Click Re-Connect. The system should re-calibrate itself accordingly, resulting in optimal picture quality. Move the unit (i.e. closer to a window or outside) to improve wireless reception.

If results are still not up to the desired performance, use the advanced user options.

Broadcasting from international locations

Contact the LiveU support team to adjust the unit, by installing suitable modems for foreign networks.

How can video streams received by the LU-1000 server be distributed to another webserver/ site/video ingestion infrastructure

There are a number of possibilities, from working directly with CDN companies (e.g. Akamai, Limelight etc.) to interfacing to "web 2.0" sites such as Ustream or Mogulus.

The LiveU Professional Services team can help chose the right option for your specific needs.

Is there any way to lower the system latency

Press Interfaces on the Configuration tab and uncheck the modems that have the largest values in the delay column. Press OK and then Reconnect. Note that this may decrease the available bandwidth.

Problems with the audio quality received by the server

Make sure that the audio sampling of your camera is set to 48Khz (16 bit)

Problem Solution

After changing the resolution on the LU-30 unit, the image won’t appear on the server

After making changes in the video resolution on the client, it is necessary to restart the server by pressing Stop/Start

The error message "Insufficient Bandwidth for Video Transmission" appears in the status pane of the LU-30 unit.

This error appears when the client detects that there is less than 128Kbps free for use in broadcasting.

If your profile is currently set to "Interview", try changing it to "Min Delay". If your profile is currently set to "Min Delay", try changing it to "Max Quality".

Change the physical placement of the LU-30 unit by moving it closer to a window, where the cellular signal is typically better

Increase the Video Bit rate on the configuration tab (256kb/sec and higher recommended)

The error message "ERROR: Video input not detected" is displayed in the Status pane.

Check to see that the camera battery is charged or AC power is connected and that the camera is turned on.

Check the camera is connected properly. If the problem still persists, try to replace the Firewire cable.

If the problem still persists after trying all the above steps and restarting the system does not resolve the issue, please call LiveU support.

Problem Solution

The video in the server comes in with a lot of colors that don't exist in the real video.

Take the following steps on both the Server and the Client: • Press "Stop" on the LiveU program. Press

Screen from the System Tab and select "properties"

• Change the field "Color quality" to "Highest (32 bit)" and press OK.

• On the LU-1000 GUI press "Start" • Press "Play" on the client

The Video Resolution on the server's video player won't change despite changes made on the Client side.

Press "Stop" and then "Start" on the LU-1000 server program. The video player should re-open at the correct video resolution.

Is it possible to change the video aspect-ratio in the H.264 Player (for example from 16:9 to 4:3)?

At the moment the server's H.264 Player gets its aspect-ratio from the camera. Change this manually (by resizing the window) or on the camera (normally via one of the camera's menu settings).

Is it possible to save the position and window size of the server's H.264 player?

Do the following steps in server: • Press "Start". The H.264 player should

appear. • Drag the H.264 player window to the

desired position • Adjust the size of the H.264 window using

the standard window resizing controls (bottom right of the window).

• From the H.264 Player select "File" -> "Exit". The position and size should now be saved for the next to time you run the H.264 player

• Verify this by clicking on the Stop and Play buttons on the LU-1000.

It seems the LiveU program remains frozen even after waiting a few minutes.

Turn the LU-30 off and on again. If the problem persists, contact LiveU technical support.

The touch-screen isn't calibrated.

Choose the "system" tab, press "Screen" and follow the instructions that appear.

A (red) appears in the Configuration window on one of the Resolution buttons.

This Resolution is not available for the currently selected Profile. Select a different Resolution or select a different Profile if you want to use this Resolution.

An icon appears in the Configuration window on one of the buttons.

This icon is a warning that minimal interfaces are used, which may result in degraded video quality. It is not mandatory, but if you would like to improve the video quality, you can select a different Resolution or select a different Profile if you want to use the same Resolution.

Maintenance

Changing Battery The battery compartment is located on the underside of the LU-30 unit. Slide the door open and pull the battery out. Only change the battery when the LU-30 unit is turned off or when it is connected to an external power source.

The battery can be changed while broadcasting if the LU-30 unit is connected to an external power source.

Safety Information Use the original power supply adapter and accessories only.

It is normal for the product to become slightly hot during use.

Avoid letting the unit sit in direct sunlight unprotected.

Do not leave the unit in the rain. Use the attached rain hood for short & light rain

Leave top backpack cover open when the LU30 is operating

Avoid letting the product come into contact with corrosive materials.

To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. The system can be used in light rain, but it should be protected. It is definitely not designed to be used under water.

CAUTION:

To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove cover (or back). There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel only.

Potential Hazards The LU-30 Live Video Uplink unit contains cellular devices that should be operated according to the same rules and limitations as expected from normal cellular devices. Do not operate the LU-30 Client Enclosure in an environment that may be susceptible to radio interference resulting in danger specifically:

• Areas where prohibited by the law

Follow any special rules and regulations and obey all signs and notices. Always ensure that the enclosure is turned off (the Power Switch is not lit) when instructed to do so, or whenever it may cause interference or danger.

• Where explosive atmospheres may be present

Do not operate the LU-30 Client Enclosure in any area where a potentially explosive atmosphere may exist. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Be aware and comply with all signs and instructions.

• It is not advisable to operate the LU-30 live video uplink while at a refueling point or service station

Users are reminded to observe restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel storage and distribution areas), chemical plants or where blasting operations are in progress.

• Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often but not always clearly marked.

Potential locations can include gas stations, below deck on boats, chemical transfer or storage facilities, vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (such as propane or butane), areas where the air contains chemicals or particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders, and any other area where it would normally be advisable to turn off a vehicle’s engine.

• Near medical and life support equipment

Do not operate the LU-30 Client Enclosure in any area where medical equipment, life support equipment, or near any equipment that may be susceptible to any form of radio interference. In such areas, the host communications device must be turned off. The LU-30 Client Enclosure may transmit signals that could interfere with this equipment.

• On an aircraft, either on the ground or airborne

In addition to FAA requirements, many airline regulations state that wireless operations must be suspended before boarding an airplane. Please ensure that the LU-30 Client Enclosure is turned off prior to boarding aircraft in order to comply with these regulations. The enclosure can transmit signals that could interfere with various onboard systems and controls

• While operating a vehicle

The driver or operator of any vehicle should not operate a wireless data device while in control of a vehicle. Doing so will detract from the driver or operator's control and operation of that vehicle. In some countries, operating such communications devices while in control of a vehicle is an offense.
